The Lada Granta car has two mounting blocks: the first is located in the cabin and protects almost all electrical circuits of the car, except for the power ones; they are protected by the fuses of the power unit, which is located under the hood.
Let's consider replacing the fuses in the cabin unit.
Firstly, experts recommend disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery whenever tampering with the car’s electrical equipment. Then you need to remove the cover on the instrument panel, it is located near the headlight control unit. No special tools are required here, you just need to gently pull the upper left part of the cover with your hand and remove it from the latches one by one:
In the Norma and Luxury trim levels, below the headlight control unit there is a trunk opening button; when removing the cover, you need to carefully disconnect it from the plug:
To do this, simply grab the plug with your fingers and lightly pull it up. Of course, when reinstalling, do not forget to connect it back - the simplest mechanism will not allow you to reverse the polarity of the wires:
So, the cover is removed, you can proceed directly to replacing the fuses.
The mounting block looks like this:
On the back of the cover, as in the instruction manual, there is a diagram of the location of the fuses, the current rating and which circuit they protect:

Accordingly, we determine which fuse has failed, remove it, and if the thread is really burned out, replace it with a new one of the same current rating. This means that the problem of constantly blowing the same fuse is not recommended to be solved by installing a fuse with a higher rated current: such a fuse does not protect the circuit, and in the event of a short circuit, all the wiring and electrical appliances that it powers will burn out; a fire cannot be ruled out.
Let's look at the power fuse box. It is located under the hood:
Remove the cover by pulling it up. Determine which fuse has failed:

So, we looked at replacing fuses on the Lada Granta, but fuses may not always be the cause of electrical equipment failure. Before directly replacing the fuse, it is necessary to check the condition of the entire electrical circuit that was protected by the blown fuse, including the condition of the wiring and electrical appliances. Only after identifying and eliminating the cause of the problem, you need to change the fuse and continue operating the car.
One of the common reasons for the failure of fuse No. F20, which powers the cigarette lighter in particular, may be the use of non-standard plugs for a video recorder, radar detector and other electrical devices powered through the cigarette lighter, that is, it has a certain shape, and the plug for additional equipment can close the circuit at a certain position in the cigarette lighter socket. Thus, when purchasing such equipment, you need to pay attention to the plug; If you have already purchased a radar detector or video recorder and have problems with their operation, replace the plug.
About fuses in Grant
Sometimes failures of elements in the vehicle's electrical on-board network occur. For domestic models, this malfunction is much more relevant in comparison with foreign analogues. The causes of damage to the electrical network can be very different. Among the most common factors causing blackouts is the usual overvoltage. Most likely, after this phenomenon, the owner will need to replace the corresponding fuse. A painfully familiar model, the Lada Granta, can serve as an example.
In the car we are considering, the lion's share of electrical circuits and current collectors is protected by fuses. We should not forget about the lack of protection for three nodes:
- battery charging circuits;
- generator electrical circuit;
- starter.
A high current flows through these objects, which is necessary for their normal functioning.
We also draw attention to the absence of the need for the ignition to be turned on for such systems as:
- alarm;
- cigarette lighter socket;
- radio;
- external optical lighting devices, etc.
The Lada Granta has two separate blocks. The developers placed the first one in the salon. His area of responsibility is most of the circuits and pantographs located inside the cabin, where you can find the cigarette lighter fuse. The second safety module is located in the engine compartment, where you will find the fuel pump fuse. It is designed to protect power circuits from overloads and short circuits. Thanks to the visual diagram, it is not difficult to understand where all the necessary fuses are located.
Cigarette lighter splitter: types and connection
Sometimes it becomes necessary to connect 2-3 devices to the cigarette lighter, which cannot be done without a splitter, and, given the design features, it is not always possible to connect even a telephone charger normally. Well, since Lada Kalina does not provide other alternatives, it is better to use this one.
The most common type of splitter has 3 sockets plus one USB port. By connecting an inverter (converter of on-board current to 220 V), you can easily charge devices such as an e-reader, tablet computer or laptop on the road. The price of the device in question ranges from 170 to 300 rubles. Buying a power strip is much cheaper and easier than replacing a cigarette lighter.

You can, of course, connect the necessary devices to the ignition without touching the cigarette lighter. But here you cannot do without the hands and knowledge of an experienced auto electrician, and installation will take more time. There will be a lot of extra wires and additional fuses will be needed. However, some car owners consider this method more reliable for Lada Kalina.
It is, of course, better to use an inverter with direct wiring. But without it, a high-quality splitter will be enough. The only question is to find a really high-quality device. The splitters are structurally similar to any extension cords used in everyday life for sockets. But there are differences between different models, which do not always have a good effect on both their operation and the condition of the Lada Kalina’s electrics. Cigarette lighter socket splitters can be divided into three types:
- those in which the block with sockets is made in a single housing with a central plug;
- those in which the plug and socket are connected by a flexible connection;
- connected via a power cord.
A splitter with a solid body is considered more reliable for obvious reasons: there is no need to fear that an important wire will break and the device will become unusable. And the price of a splitter in the classic version is much less. But it’s not always possible to position it in a way that is convenient for the driver and passenger, especially if all its connectors are used. Moreover, the purely mechanical load on the cigarette lighter increases, but the socket itself is unreliable.

to a more convenient option. Adapters do not lose contact! The plugs will no longer fall out! ______…
Misalignment of the plug will again lead to a short circuit. So Lada Kalina owners choose more advanced models of splitters. For example, with a swivel joint. But they are also capable of deforming the socket more clearly than usual, in a monolithic case, and the hinge itself can easily break. Therefore, for Kalina, where the cigarette lighter is located quite low, it is better to use a splitter with a cord. There is only one inconvenience: an extra wire, which must be placed so that it does not interfere.
Features of the first mounting block
Once you know where the blocks are, you can talk about their features. Another significant difference between the Lada Grant and representatives of previous generations is its numerical composition. Now it is equal to 32 units. For a detailed understanding, you will need to carefully familiarize yourself with the block diagram. For example, fuse F1 has a function to protect the circuits of such current collectors:
- ignition coils;
- nozzles;
- motor and fan control unit.
Element F2 is responsible for the safety of the electrical power window mechanism circuits.
F3 and F4 respectively “monitor” the safety of circuits belonging to:
- hazard warning lights and windshield wipers;
- airbag.
Elements F9 and F10 are “entrusted” with controlling the wiring to the side lights.
It is important to remember that each safety element has a current limit that it can withstand.
- F8, “standing guard” of the rear window heating circuit, is designed for a maximum of 30 Amps;
- F6, which controls the operation of the reversing light, can only withstand 7.5 A.
It is easy to guess that these values of this parameter are directly dependent on the required electrical consumption of a particular pantograph.
To familiarize yourself in detail with the circuits and the fuses that protect them, it is recommended to resort to the diagram (Fig. 3).
If we move on to the consideration of relays, then in the Lada Granta they are present in the amount of 12 units. These elements are designed to maintain the functionality of many current collectors (heating system fan, starter, electric fuel pump, etc.).
This unit, located under the hood of the LADA Granta, has five elements in its arsenal.
- F1 (current 50A) - protection of the electric power steering circuit;
- F2 (current 30A) - heater fan motor;
- F3 (current 60A) - generator;
- F4 (current 60A) - generator;
- F5 (current 30A) – low beam optical devices.
We act in the salon
- The fuse box is located on the left side of the instrument panel. Remove the cover with the outdoor lighting mode switch integrated into it. If the work is carried out on the LADA Granta “Lux” and “Norma” modifications, then do not forget about the need to disable the button used to unlock the trunk lock.
- Armed with the diagram, we determine whether the cigarette lighter fuse or the fuel pump fuse has become unusable, and so on. We look at the integrity of the thread and draw the appropriate conclusion. If the element is unfit, then we replace it with a new analogue by fixing it in the mounting socket. We repeat this action with the entire list of blown fuses.
- We connect the “minus” back to the battery and check the functioning of the electrical unit in which the fuse was replaced.
The process of replacing the specified elements, which contain the fuse block, of the engine compartment of the Lada Granta is implemented in a similar way. The cover on the safety module is removed using a simple action - just pull it up and quietly replace the marked elements.
The device has become popular in recent years. Now even non-smoking car owners use the cigarette lighter. Indeed, in addition to its nominal purpose, the device performs a lot of functions. For example, various devices are connected to the cigarette lighter socket:
- power bank for mobile phones or tablets;
- charging for laptop and electronics;
- DVR;
- navigation system;
- electric pump that inflates the wheels.
When used correctly, the device works for a long time, but due to certain features it may fail. Read on to find out why the breakdown occurs, how to recognize the cause of the malfunction, replace the cigarette lighter or repair it on the Lada Granta model.
Design and operation
The cigarette lighter in a car consists of a chrome-plated metal body, a heating element with a coil of high resistivity material (nichrome or similar), a plastic push-button handle, and a coil spring inside the housing. The cigarette lighter socket is a steel cup with a bimetallic heater retainer on the end wall of the housing inside. The common wire of the car's electrical equipment (ground) is connected to the body of the cigarette lighter socket, and the power (+) is connected to the heater retainer. To illuminate the cigarette lighter socket in low light conditions, a light guide made of transparent greenish plastic is installed on the body, onto which a socket with a small light bulb is attached. One of its contacts is connected to the socket body, and the other to the wire that supplies power to the instrument lighting.
The cigarette lighter works as follows. One end of the heater spiral inserted into the socket is in contact with ground through the cigarette lighter body. When you press the handle-button, the heater is fixed with a bimetallic latch, to which at this moment the other end of the spiral is connected. The current flowing through the nichrome wire heats it up. This also heats up the bimetallic clamp, which, when a certain temperature is reached, straightens and ceases to hold the heater. Then the cigarette lighter button, under the action of a spring, breaks the electrical circuit of the heater with a characteristic click and jumps out.
Electrical appliance protection
The electrical wiring is protected from a short circuit in the cigarette lighter by a fuse link in the fuse box. It is denoted by CIG, cigar, or a pictogram depicting a smoking cigarette. The rating of this fuse is most often 15 A.
The device is protected from fire by a low-melting metal washer installed under the nut securing the power terminal. The principle of operation of this protection is as follows. When the nichrome spiral is overheated for a long time, the end of the socket body heats up to the melting point of the protective washer. Melting, the washer flows down and connects the power terminal to the body of the device connected to the common wire of the electrical equipment. As a result of this short circuit, the fuse-link burns out, the cigarette lighter is de-energized, and heating stops.
Common reasons for refusal
The reason why your cigarette lighter is not working may be due to the following faults:
- The fuse has blown.
- Broken filament coil.
- Fire protection activated. With this malfunction, the new fuse fails during installation. Triggering of fire protection often occurs due to accidental pressing and prolonged holding of the cigarette lighter button. What can happen, for example, when you try to reach an object that has fallen on the floor and rolled under the seat.
- Corrosion of power terminals and cigarette lighter ground.
Where is the cigarette lighter fuse located?
A common reason why a device stops working is a burnt-out protective element.
The current strength in the circuit itself is precisely fixed, and its value should not exceed 15 amperes. When connecting powerful devices or a short circuit, the fuse blows, causing the VAZ cigarette lighter to stop working. The fact that this particular element needs to be changed will be indicated by indirect reasons. The fuse is responsible for:
- sound signal;
- trunk lock;
- immobilizer, this means that if it fails, the owner will not start the car.
To change a non-working cigarette lighter fuse, you need to get to the mounting block. It is located in the cabin under the decorative panel, to the left of the steering column. The cigarette lighter fuse is held in place by five plastic clips.
- We disconnect them and get to the rear space.
- We take out the plug that attaches to the luggage compartment opening button. Now you can completely remove the panel.
- We gain access to the mounting block, where tweezers are also located, allowing you to quickly pull out the protective elements.
The Lada Granta model has two versions of the fuse box - old and new. If the car is from the first years of production, then you will need to replace the element number F20. The mounting block diagram of newer models of the cigarette lighter fuse differs from its predecessor. Here you should change element F27. The fuse must be rated 15 amps. When installing a protective element with high resistance, problems may arise. If the current in the circuit exceeds the maximum permissible value, the cables will melt, which can result in a short circuit or fire in the wiring and a blown fuse.
Reasons for failure of the cigarette lighter on the Lada Grant
A malfunction can occur due to various circumstances. Among the most common reasons why the cigarette lighter on a Lada Granta car does not work are:
- Blown fuse. This happens due to connecting a large number of devices to the connector. The total power of connected devices should not exceed 180 Watts (15*12=180). Otherwise the cigarette lighter fuse will blow. AvtoVAZ models have different protective elements (Granta - F20/F27, Kalina - F18, Priora - F13). The fuse rating must correspond to the value specified by the manufacturer.
- Poor contact. Over time, oxides or rust develop on the tendrils of the metal cartridge, resulting in a poor connection. To correct the situation, it is enough to remove the cigarette lighter, inspect the condition of its contacts, and treat them with a file to remove rust or oxides.
- Broken wiring. Three wires come to the device, the soldering of which disappears over time. To identify the malfunction, you will need a multitester.
Installation recommendations
A good splitter will have a built-in fuse, and only such models are worth paying attention to. The tip of the central plug is preferable to a conical one: this will definitely not cause problems. Let's imagine the ordinary everyday situation of the owner of a Lada Kalina. Suddenly it turned out that the cigarette lighter was not working.
What to do? It is the cigarette lighter itself (from which the cigarette is lit) that often stops heating to the desired temperature. In this case, you need to remove the cigarette lighter fuse and move the socket contacts further away. Quite often, in the case of a non-working cigarette lighter, it is enough to simply change the fuse. This is done like this:
- carefully open the fuse box (the cover of the block on the Lada Kalina is made under the side light switch);
- there is a hint on the cover with a diagram of the location of the fuses; We find the one we need, take it out with plastic tongs and insert a new one.
The cigarette lighter fuse in Kalina is located on the 2nd row in the 7th place of the block. You can even install an additional cigarette lighter; on the VAZ 2119 it is powered by the glove compartment light bulb. When performing this procedure, you should be careful when pulling the necessary wires and not mix up the polarity of the contacts. The light bulb has a permanent plus, which simplifies the matter. The socket from it must be removed, first disconnecting the battery.
Power is supplied to the lamp when the low beam is turned on, and in this way you can connect the DVR. The cigarette lighter will fit from a VAZ 2110. You will need 60 cm of wire with two terminals and a 29 cm pen from a screwdriver. There is almost nothing to disassemble. The wire is inserted into the hole of the removed lamp, fished out with your finger under the dashboard, there is a hole there. You can also catch it in the hole on the side of the front passenger door.
Next, you will need a rigid wire that is inserted into the hole in the end switch. One wire is connected to the light bulb, the other to the end switch so that the power is not interrupted. If the cigarette lighter spiral burns out on a Lada Kalina, the easiest way is to install a new one. Remember that the cigarette lighter, such as it is now, arose not so long ago, and switching a large current is clearly not a job for such a primitive device.
Some cars do not have a cigarette lighter, but a full-fledged 12-volt socket, but the Lada Kalina is not one of these vehicles. Also, when driving, the contact between the equipment plug and the socket may disappear. There's nothing you can do about it. Sometimes you have to press the cigarette lighter antennae: over time, they stop fixing the coil and it doesn’t heat up. That's all. Good luck!
Instructions for removing the cigarette lighter of 2nd generation Grants or Kalinas are available in some publications on the repair and operation of these cars. There, to remove the cigarette lighter, the center console is dismantled, but this is not necessary. There is an easier way.
Repairing a burnt out cigarette lighter
Sometimes it is not necessary to change the Lada Granta device. You can carry out the repair yourself. After removing the device, it is worth inspecting the condition of the contacts. The fallen wires should be soldered, and the oxidized contacts should be treated with a needle file. After this, the device can restore functionality.
Inside the cigarette lighter there is a small mica plate. This is a semiconductor that often fails. It needs to be removed. After this, it is worth assembling the device and then checking that it is working correctly.
Which cigarette lighter should I replace the burned out one?
There are many different options available on the market. When choosing, you need to pay attention to how much the Lada Granta cigarette lighter costs. A price that is too low indicates that low-quality materials were used in the production process; such a device will not work for a long time. The normal cost of the device is 600 – 1200 rubles.
You can buy a short European cigarette lighter. There are no uniform size standards for parts. Therefore, they will differ in length or diameter. You must select a plug of the appropriate size. If the diameter does not match, the device will short out, which can lead to a fire.
Causes of cigarette lighter malfunctions
So, everything is clear with the forms. But how to choose a device whose use will definitely not burn anything? It is very important to pay attention to whether the maximum electrical load is indicated on the device and what its value is. It should not exceed the standard 15 amperes. Another noteworthy feature is the current strength of the USB connectors. It ranges from 500 milliamps to 2 amperes. It is better in this case to take the maximum.

If the device seems too fragile and unreliable in appearance, it is better to refrain from purchasing it. The most meticulously worth inspecting is the connectors of the splitter themselves, those round ones. There should be no circuit board protruding from the bottom of the splitter sockets. The contact sleeve of the splitter should not be too thin. If it appears to be no thicker than foil, the device may be dangerous to operate.
Even when using a high-quality extension cord, remember that the Kalina cigarette lighter is a fire hazard; under no circumstances load the splitter to its full capacity. Don't count on the fuse, because you already understand how quickly it gives out. You also need to be careful with the splitter. On one of the Kalina station wagons, the fuse mentioned above failed when only an empty splitter was connected. This is precisely because of those ill-fated contacts. But after replacing the fuse everything worked again.
Under no circumstances should a more powerful fuse be inserted. Only standard at 15 amps. Otherwise, the wiring will be completely destroyed under the increased load. It is worth paying attention to the plugs. The ones that actually fit will never cause a short circuit. The cigarette lighter may also stop working because dust and oxidation have accumulated in the fuse box. Many car enthusiasts say that if nothing burns out, then it’s only a matter of time. There are 2 simple solutions offered.
- Deliberately break the cigarette lighter itself (that is, not the socket), connecting devices to a splitter.
- Bend the contacts in the socket a little further.
Replacing suspicious plugs with more suitable ones also helps. Take a closer look at the devices that you want to power from the cigarette lighter, otherwise you won’t have enough time to change fuses.
How to remove the cigarette lighter on a Grant
Before work, you will need to stock up on the necessary tools. To remove the cigarette lighter on a Grant, you need:
- protective gloves;
- Screwdriver Set.
To troubleshoot you will need:
- soldering iron with solder;
- diagnostic tester;
- needle file to remove oxides or rust.
Detailed video instructions
After preparation, you can begin the dismantling process.
- Turn off the ignition, open the hood and remove the terminal from the battery. The negative contact must be removed - this will de-energize the system and eliminate the possibility of a short circuit.
- We remove the metal cartridge from its seat.
- Using a thin screwdriver, bend the latches inside the socket.
- We take it out and disconnect the wire block.
- Remove the green filter.
Now you can repair the part or replace it. Assembly is carried out in the reverse order described earlier. Detailed instructions on how to change the cigarette lighter on a Lada Granta car are shown in the video.
Photo of the correct replacement
After carrying out the work, it is advisable to check the proper operation of the device.
- The car cigarette lighter should fit tightly in the socket, and there should be no oxides or rust on the contacts.
- You should measure the voltage on the battery, and then check again by turning on the ignition. If the drawdown is more than 0.5 volts, then there is a short circuit somewhere.
- All soldered wires must be insulated and shrink-wrapped.
Video about replacing the cigarette lighter
After carrying out the work, it is advisable to check the serviceability of the device.
- The car cigarette lighter should fit tightly in the socket, and there should be no oxides or rust on the contacts.
- You need to measure the battery voltage with the ignition off, and then repeat the procedure with the ignition on. If the drawdown is more than 0.5 volts, this means that there is a short circuit. All soldered wires must be insulated and shrink-wrapped.
- You cannot connect electrical appliances with a total power of more than 180 watts to the connector. P=I*A – formula for calculating the power of devices. Here I is the voltage of the electrical circuit (12 volts), and A is the maximum current for a given section of the circuit (15 amperes).
- Fuse F20, responsible for the operation of the cigarette lighter, must be 15 amperes. Installation of a protective element designed for high current strength, as well as paper clips or coins, is prohibited. Otherwise, this may result in a short circuit, melted wiring or fire.

Replacing the cigarette lighter with a USB socket
Due to the design features of the liftback, some difficulties arise with the cigarette lighter. The short body does not provide reliable fixation, which is why connected devices may turn off. Therefore, many owners install a 12-volt socket instead of a car cigarette lighter.
For this procedure, standard AvtoVAZ sockets for Gazelle, Vesta or XRay are suitable. Part number 118.3725 SOATE. The price of the device is 150 – 200 rubles.
- We de-energize the car by removing the negative terminal from the battery or pulling out the corresponding fuse.
- We take out the metal cartridge.
- We bend the fixing antennae.
- We dismantle the internal part of the car cigarette lighter.
- Disconnect the wire block.
- We connect the plug to the socket socket.
- We mount it in the cigarette lighter hole.
The disadvantage of this procedure is that the device will stop working as intended. The socket will not be illuminated due to the removal of the filter. However, all connected devices are securely fixed in the socket. You can learn more about the installation procedure from the video.
