How to replace the clutch cable of a Lada Granta

Sequence of actions when replacing the clutch cable of Lada Granta

  1. The machine is within the perimeter of the repair area, with unhindered access to the front doors.
  2. Using a 13mm wrench, unscrew the nut securing the tensioner to the pedal bracket. The module is located under the dashboard, near the steering column shaft.

Note to the driver!!! Before installing (laying) a new cable, be sure to lubricate it with transmission oil. Pour liquid between the braid and metal conductors.

Cable installation procedure

  1. We pass the tensioner through the technological hole in the partition.
  2. We fix the pedal module in its original place and secure the axle.
  3. We fasten the shell stop and cable seal.
  4. We thread the braid and tensioner into the hole of the manual transmission.
  5. We bring the cable into working condition, move the lower tip until it stops (overcoming the resistance of the spring).
  6. We measure the actual distance between the fork and the plastic retainer. The clutch cable clearance on the Lada Granta should be 27 mm.

    Clutch cable clearance

  7. We press the clutch pedal several times and measure the distance again.
  8. If there is a discrepancy, adjust the key to “10”.

  9. Inside the car, we measure the travel of the clutch pedal; it should be 146 mm. If a deviation is detected, adjust the distance of the tip on the cable (key to “10”).

Note to the driver!!! The cable adjustment is carried out after it is completely installed. Subsequent adjustment is carried out by a compensation mechanism. Its task is to constantly tension the cable. If there is a deviation from the norm, the degree of tension increases or decreases.

Replacing the clutch cable Lada “Granta”

Dismantling the clutch cable is carried out as follows:

  • unscrew the nut securing the cable to the pedal bracket (located in the cabin under the front panel);

    Unscrew the cable fastening nut

  • remove the cable sheath stop from the pin;

    Remove the cable pin

  • Using pliers, remove the locking bracket holding the clutch pedal axis;
  • pull out the axle;
  • remove the clutch pedal;
  • disconnect the spring from the clutch pedal bracket;
  • using pliers, pull out and remove the cable end stopper;

    pull out and remove the cable end stopper

  • disconnect the cable end from the clutch pedal;
  • remove the cable sheath seal located in the engine compartment;

    Remove the sealing insert of the reed

  • pull the tip of the clutch cable inserted into the fork in the direction of vehicle travel;
  • pull the cable tip out of the fork groove;

    Pull the tip out of the fork groove

  • unscrew the cable end lead;
  • remove the cable braid guide bushing inserted into the hole in the gearbox bracket;
  • remove the clutch cable from the Lada “Grant” by dragging it out of the hole in the partition between the car’s interior and the engine compartment.

The new clutch cable should be pre-lubricated by pouring a little oil between the braid and the cable. The clutch cable is installed as follows:

  • pass the cable into the passenger compartment from the engine compartment through the hole in the shield (partition);
  • attach a compensation mechanism to the pedal pin that regulates the tension as the clutch disc wears out;
  • install the clutch pedal in place and fix its axis;
  • fix the cable sheath stop on the pin located on the pedal block bracket;
  • install the clutch cable seal on the partition of the engine compartment;
  • thread the clutch cable into the hole in the gearbox bracket;
  • install the cable braid guide in the same hole;
  • insert the driver into the lower tip of the clutch cable so that the tip protrudes beyond the end of the driver by 1 mm;
  • set the clutch cable to the working position, moving the lower tip all the way forward in the direction of movement of the machine (you will have to overcome the resistance of the mechanism spring);
  • measure the distance between the driver and the clutch fork, holding the cable in an extended position;
  • by rotating the leash, set the gap to 27 mm;
  • insert the cable tip into the groove on the clutch fork;
  • release the tip (the spring should move the tip towards the fork, installing it without gap);
  • press the clutch pedal three times;
  • re-measure the gap between the fork and the driver;
  • If necessary, adjust the cable by rotating the leash.

Adjustment of the Grant clutch cable is carried out only after its installation. Subsequently, the correct length of the cable is ensured by a compensation mechanism. He makes sure that the cable is constantly in a slightly taut position. If there is a deviation from the norm, the mechanism either adds the length of the cable or reduces it.

Why does the clutch cable click on the Lada Grant?

Periodic clicks when pressing the pedal indicate insufficient cable tension or excessive tension.

Eliminating clicks is easy. To do this, you need to pull the tensioner tip out of the fork seat, measure the actual distance, it should be equal to 27 mm. Increase or decrease voltage as needed (key to “10”).

The most common source of squeaking is:

  • polymer pedal bushing: applying lubricant, replacing with a new one;
  • tensioner: pour transmission oil into the cavity between the metal cable and the braid;
  • clutch cable guide: apply graphite lubricant to the contact point between the fork and the polymer cable nut;
  • input shaft of a manual transmission: lack or insufficient amount of lubricant on the clutch fork pressure bearing. You can eliminate the squeak by spraying an aerosol can filled with graphite lubricant.

First, we dismantle the air filter housing and pipes. We also remove the fork lever boot and spray lubricant.

Lubricating the clutch cable Lada Granta

Materials, tools:

  • transmission oil;
  • rags;
  • additional lighting;
  • key to "10".
  1. We place the car on a flat platform (platform), provide priority safety measures, and squeeze the parking brake lever.
  2. Open the hood, remove the air filter housing and air ducts.
  3. Using a “10” wrench, unscrew the nut and remove the cable end from the eyelet.
  4. Fill the grease fitting with oil, pour liquid into the cavity between the metal cable and the braid.
  5. We install the tensioner in its original place and fix the mount.

Replacing the Grant clutch cable:

1. In the cabin, under the instrument panel, using an 8 mm wrench, unscrew the nut securing the cable sheath bracket to the pedal assembly bracket.

9. Replacing the Grant clutch cable. Installation sequence.

– pass the cable through the hole in the front panel from the passenger compartment into the engine compartment;

– install the sealing cover into the hole in the front panel;

– put the automatic cable length adjustment mechanism on the pedal pin and secure it;

– screw a plastic leash onto the threaded end of the cable so that the end of the cable end is flush with the end of the leash;

– insert the leash into the groove of the clutch release fork lever;

– adjust the clutch drive.

10. To adjust the clutch, pull the cable forward by the threaded end until it stops, overcoming the force of the clutch pedal spring, and hold the cable in this position.

11. Using a caliper, measure the distance from the end of the plastic guide to the clutch release fork lever, which should be 27 mm.
