If the technical characteristics of the cars are similar, gasoline consumption in the Grant and Priora models will not differ.

The Lada Granta may be preferred by car enthusiasts who want to use an automatic transmission. This is explained by the fact that the Priora model does not have an automatic transmission. The suspension is of sufficient quality and absolutely reliable on both models. It should be borne in mind that Priora gained its popularity in the domestic market much earlier than Granta. Let's start, as usual, with the appearance of the cars. Let's see what interior and exterior options are offered to us. The Priora has the outline of a classic sedan, a bit similar to its predecessor. The shape of its body, unfortunately, can no longer be called modern; it is most likely more traditional.

Despite the restyling of the model in 2014, the body has not undergone major changes. Priora received new headlights, a new bumper and rear dimensions. The car looked better, but not much. But inside there were more drastic changes.

New materials from the “soft-look” line were used and the interior began to look much richer. Although the old problems remain - if you have impressive dimensions, then you will feel a little cramped in the driver's seat.

But Granta has more than enough space, the interior is spacious and comfortable. The picture is spoiled by the cheap plastic from which the instrument panel is made.

I would like to say separately about the appearance. It is modern, stylish and interesting. The car has sweeping lines, original headlights and bumpers, and new running lights. And the Lada Granta, produced in a liftback body, is practically indistinguishable from a good foreign car. Comparing Grant or Priora, which looks better, the Lada Granta certainly wins.

Comparison of configurations and prices of Grants and Priors

Now about the packages and prices. Lada Priora is the only car in our country that is available in four body styles - sedan, hatchback, station wagon and coupe. If you are a fan of station wagons, then the Priora has no competitors.

Granta is not available in this body style. It is represented on the market as a sedan, a liftback and a sports car. If Priora has two trim levels for all models, Norma and Luxury, then Granta has added a third (the cheapest) Standard.

Interestingly, the inexpensive Priora configurations are much better equipped than similar Grant configurations. But they also cost significantly more. But in the Lux trim levels, the differences between Priora and Grant practically disappear.

The same set of expensive options includes electric power steering, front airbags, heated seats, a modern multimedia system, an on-board computer with many functions, and much more.

And again, the Lada Granta in the most expensive Lux configuration costs 10-15% cheaper than the same Priora. This is achieved due to the fact that the design of the Lada Granta has significantly reduced the number of small parts used in assembling the body.

Hence the reduction in noise levels and the elimination of all sorts of rattles and squeaks that so annoyed previous VAZ owners. The presence of a wide variety of configurations is a huge plus for the Lada Grant, as the car becomes accessible to almost everyone, the main segments of the population.

We deliberately do not provide specific prices for this or that model, but try to show the main trends, because the price gap between different sellers can be very different from each other. Let us conclude that the comparison of Grant and Prior with regard to pricing policy again remains with Grant.

Exterior, configuration and interior of both cars

Priora is the only AvtoVAZ car produced at different times in 4 body types (including coupe). Any car enthusiast can choose the appropriate option for himself. The Granta is available in a sedan; a liftback version has recently appeared. Thus, if a car enthusiast prefers the large size of a station wagon, he does not face the problem of choice - Granta does not yet have such a body. The appearance, according to many, of the Priora is also better.

It is more proportional, and after restyling in 2014 it has become even more modern. This was largely due to the improvement of the headlights and bumpers. Granta has a modern appearance, but it is rustic. In addition, the body was created for a budget car, and it remained that way. This can be felt in the unpainted bumpers in the minimum configuration. Thus, the comparison in terms of exterior is clearly not in favor of the Lada Granta.

However, it has front running lights in any configuration and has been used since the very beginning of production, while the Priora had them in 2014. Priora and Granta have three trim levels each. The first car, even in the minimum version, has a solid set of options, namely a driver’s airbag, athermal windows, central locking, front electric windows, an immobilizer and an alarm system.

In addition, Priora bumpers are painted in body color. The Granta comes standard with black color, and the range of options is more meager. The most significant include the driver's airbag and a single ignition and door lock key. It is clear that in this configuration the Priora is the clear favorite. In the standard configuration, the difference becomes even more significant. In terms of the range of options, the Grant hardly reaches the standard of the Priora.

The latter has an audio system, climate control, electric mirrors and trunk lid. The appearance of some modifications of the car, already in this configuration, is improved by alloy wheels by 14. However, in the luxury configuration, the difference between the number of options, if not completely disappears, then becomes almost invisible against the general background. Meanwhile, the price of the Priora in this configuration is 10% higher than that of the Grant.

We can conclude that in the minimum configuration the Granta clearly loses in the number of options. Consequently, those for whom comfort is crucial will choose Priora. Car enthusiasts who prefer a budget car will choose the Grant. In the luxury package, everything is not so clear. The number of options in them is the same for cars, but Granta is cheaper. When asked which is better than the Lada Grant or Priora in terms of technical characteristics, the opinions of car owners are almost the same. There are not many fundamental differences between the cars - they are equipped with the same engines and almost identical gearboxes.

A truly serious technical problem with the Priora is that when the alternator belt breaks, the valve bends. And it was not possible to solve this problem in the new engine 21127, which was developed for the updated Priora. It seems that the problem will never be solved, since there are persistent rumors that the Priora will be in production for the last year.

Three years of operation of the Lada Grant did not reveal such serious (general) problems, the solution of which needs to be sought by the whole world. The exception is the generator bearing, which quite often fails. When deciding for yourself which Lada Grant or Priora is better, you need to have all of the above in your head. And our sympathies are again with Granta - she is fresher and more technologically advanced.

It can be noted that to equip the Grant model, a line of 1.6 liter gasoline engines is used, which have 2 and 4 valves per cylinder, and the power varies from 81 to 120 hp. With. At the same time, the engine has a fairly respectable torque rating of 165 Nm, which allows the 123-horsepower engine of a loaded car not to lose its agility. The Lada Granta Sedan still looks a little rough. For the most part, this applies to the stern, where the trunk looks somewhat foreign. But Granta Liftback is a real beauty. As for the interior, after the modernization, the older model has no big differences in the functionality and ergonomics of the driver’s seat, in the quality of finishing materials, and in ensuring the safety of the driver and passengers. Therefore, it is impossible to say unequivocally which is better: Priora or Lada Granta. If the interior of a younger model still looks a little more modern, then an older one can offer better sound insulation.

At the same time, the Priora station wagon and hatchback can be classified as those cars whose appearance is always relevant. The concept of “beautiful station wagon” does not exist in such a categorical form as for other modifications. Therefore, you can safely choose a car for its practicality. And the three-door hatchback can be taken as a cute first car or a second car for the family.

When comparing Priora and Granta, one cannot fail to mention sports models. If the sporty Priora is a logical continuation of the classic model, then the Granta Sport can claim to be a car that has its own new face.

There is a new sports suspension, an improved gearbox, and adjusted wheel camber. The appearance of the car is distinguished by its aggressive character and rapid modern lines. Numerous test drives of the Priora against the Granta have shown that while the regular Granta is inferior to the Priora in terms of dynamics, the sporty version of the Granta is much faster.

Sports modifications

Comparing cars is impossible without considering sports trim levels. After all, many car enthusiasts specifically make appropriate tuning of their “iron horses”. Meanwhile, Priora and Granta have factory modifications of such cars. The sports modification of the Priora has rather cosmetic changes. This, of course, is also a lot. Car enthusiasts no longer have to install an aerodynamic body kit and stiffer suspension on their own.

Engine power increased to 125 hp. s., which made it possible to increase the maximum speed to 195 km/h. The car is equipped with 14-inch alloy wheels. Of course, this is not enough for the sport package. Perhaps this was the reason for the low popularity of the car. By the way, along with the release of the model, AvtoVAZ offered car enthusiasts a kit for self-tuning. Its price at that time was about 70,000 rubles.

The situation is completely different with Granta. This is the first sports modification car for which the manufacturer specially developed a new engine. Its power is 118 hp. p., for such a modification this is not enough. However, VAZ promises to equip the car with a 135- and later 200-horsepower unit. The appearance of the car has changed greatly. Compared to the civilian version, it began to look much more massive.

Its appearance has become aggressive, which fans of sports tuning really like. The appearance is complemented by 16-inch alloy wheels. The suspension has special short-travel struts that allow you to confidently corner at high speed. The rear brakes have a disc design, which makes them much more efficient. In terms of configuration, the car is identical to the luxury version.

Taking into account all the facts, it has become much easier to decide which sports car is better - Priora or Grant. The vast majority of car enthusiasts believe that among domestic models there is no alternative to the Grant Sport. True, its price today exceeds 480 thousand rubles. However, independent tuning for its fans may cost more and will be of lower quality.
