What modes and functions does the air conditioner have?

Operation of climate control

Climate control system

To determine the causes of the malfunction of the unit in question, you first need to find out the principle of its operation and the refrigerant flow pattern. This system in Kalina includes the following elements:

  • sensor;
  • pipeline;
  • radiator;
  • fan;
  • evaporator.

The air conditioning compressor is located on the BC of the engine. It works by rotating the belt. The compressor shaft is located on the housing. The air conditioner pulley is located on a bearing, which rotates regularly when the engine is running. The important elements of this mechanism are:

  • friction clutch;
  • electromagnetic drive.

Signs of a malfunctioning air conditioner

The air conditioner and the entire air conditioning system are considered to be working properly if a click is heard when the main unit is turned on. Auto mechanics identify several signs why the air conditioner on a Lada Kalina does not work. Malfunctions can be easily fixed with your own hands. If the unit is turned on without interruption, and the coupling makes extraneous sounds and gets hot, the cause of such a breakdown is related to the bearing. Repairing the air conditioner in this situation involves replacing the part.

If you do not hear a click, the following problems may exist:

  • refrigerant leak, which contributes to blocking of the control system (this is the main reason why the compressor on Kalina does not turn on);
  • pressure sensor malfunction;
  • the coil winding burned out;
  • The compressor does not turn on due to the motor control being blocked.

Easy and free rotation of the clutch, which is accompanied by extraneous noise, can cause compressor failure. There is no repair of the internal part of the compressor. The unit is replaced with a new one of the same type, fully assembled.

If the air conditioner is started and a click is heard, but the air in the Kalina cabin does not cool, it means that the compressor is running idle. Only qualified auto mechanics can detect such a breakdown. To do this, specialists use special control and diagnostic equipment. This procedure allows you to determine the exact cause of the air conditioner failure.

Heating and air conditioning control

No car can do without an air conditioner and interior heater. These are important components of the car, thanks to which the driver and passengers can feel comfortable in the cabin. It is important for the driver to know how the operation of the air conditioner and heater is controlled from the control panel (see the corresponding assembly drawings “Air conditioner and heater control panel”).

Heater and air conditioner control keys

1. (Models with automatic control of air conditioning and heating) To turn on the air conditioning or heater, press the “AUTO” switch (5). To turn on the air conditioner, press the “A/C” switch (1). When the air conditioner is turned on, the indicator on the switch lights up. If the air conditioning mode was turned on before the last shutdown, then when turned on, the air conditioning mode will immediately begin to operate.

Attention : flashing of the indicator during operation of the air conditioning system indicates a malfunction of the system, and the air conditioner automatically turns off. To turn off the air conditioner, press the “A/C” switch (1) again, in this case the heater will work. If you press the “OFF” switch (4), the heater turns off.

2. (Models with manual control of air conditioning and heater) To turn on the heater, you must move the heater fan rotation speed switch (6) from position “O” to any other. To turn on the air conditioner, press the air conditioner switch “A/C” (1). When the air conditioner is turned on, the indicator on the switch lights up.

Attention : flashing of the indicator during operation of the air conditioning system indicates a malfunction of the system, and the air conditioner automatically turns off. If the air conditioning mode was turned on before the last shutdown, then when you move the heater fan speed switch (6) from the “O” position, the air conditioning mode will immediately begin to operate. When you press the “A/C” switch (1) again, the air conditioning mode will turn off and the heater will operate. The heater works if the air conditioning mode is turned off.

3. The air flow direction switch (2) is designed to change the direction of airflow. (Models with manual control of air conditioning and heating) To switch the airflow mode, move the switch to the required position.

(Models with automatic control of air conditioning and heater) To switch the blowing mode, press the “MODE” button. An indicator showing the current blowing pattern will appear on the information display. – In this position, the air flow is directed towards the head area.

– In this position, the air flow is directed towards the head and floor at the same time.

– In this position, the air flow is directed almost entirely to the floor; on some models, during heating, warmer air is directed to the floor level, and cooler air is directed to the head area.

– In this position, the air flow is directed to the windshield, front door glass, to the head and floor areas; on some models, a less heated air flow is directed to the head area.

– (Models with manual air conditioning and heating) This position directs the air flow towards the windshield and is used when the windshield fogs up.

3. Air intake adjustment switch (ventilation/recirculation) (3) allows air intake either from outside the vehicle or from the interior.

Note : if the recirculation mode is operated for a long period of time, the windows may fog up.

4. The air flow force is controlled by switch (6).

5. The temperature regulator (7) is used to set the heating or cooling air temperature in the vehicle interior within the range from 18° to 32°C.

(Models with automatic air conditioning and heater control) “MAX COLD” appears on the information display when the maximum cooling mode is set. And “MAX HOT” – maximum heating mode.

Video on the topic. Climate control operation in auto mode:

6. (Models with automatic control of air conditioning and heating) The “AUTO” switch (5) is designed to automatically control the operation of the air conditioning and heating. In the “AUTO” mode, the flow force and direction of the air flow are automatically adjusted. When operating in this mode, it is possible to set the temperature of the incoming air, while the air conditioner/heater will operate in the “AUTO” mode. If you press any other switch, operation in “AUTO” mode will stop.

7. (Models with automatic control of air conditioning and heating) When the windshield fogs up, you must press the windshield defogger switch (8). The windshield defogger is turned off by pressing the switch again. When the blower is turned on, the indicator on the switch lights up.

8. (Models with automatic control of air conditioning and heater) When the switch (3) is pressed, an indication of the ambient air temperature (OUTSIDE TEMP) is shown on the information display. When you press the switch (3) again, the display will return to its original position.

Main components of the system

The air conditioning system in Lada Kalina includes various components, one of which is a condenser. This device is located in front of the engine cooling radiator in the corresponding compartment. It is fixed with brackets. Its honeycombs are made of aluminum tubes, which contain longitudinal partitions and ribs that improve heat transfer.

The tanks are made of aluminum and equipped with flanges that are connected to the pipelines. Each tank has sections. When the air conditioner is turned on, the fan starts, which improves heat exchange and reduces pressure in the system. If the part does not work, the capacitor is repaired.

The cabin filter should be changed periodically

It is recommended in the spring to wash the fins A and B of the unit from dirt that has accumulated on its surface. Such prevention improves heat transfer, reducing pressure and increasing the service life of the entire condensing system.

Do not wash the condenser with special installations that release a stream of water under high pressure, otherwise the thin-walled plates may be damaged. Using this flushing method results in frequent replacement of the capacitor. This is due to the fact that he is the first to fall under the flow of reagents and pebbles.

If the condenser seal is compromised due to corrosion, repairs will be expensive. The pressure in the system in summer can reach 25-28 bar. This takes into account the complex structure of the tube. The channels inside the capacitor may be blocked due to welding work. Such repairs lead to a decrease in power dissipation and deterioration in the operation of the air conditioner. Auto mechanics in this situation recommend installing a new capacitor.

mamont01 05 Aug 2010 the indicator on the air conditioner button does not light up when you turn it on (it hasn’t been on since birth - or rather, I didn’t pay attention - because I didn’t use the air conditioner until this summer).. The other day I bought a new button, installed it - and it still doesn’t light up .
My buttons are defective or they shouldn’t light up, because it’s not structurally provided for (although it’s strange - there is a place for illumination :(( ) The same thing with the seat heating buttons - you press (that is, turn on) and the magic light does not light up on the buttons. PS all the functions of the devices above work - that is, when you press the buttons, everything turns on - the indicator on the buttons themselves just does not light up. yes, this is such a feature here https://www.lkforum.r. ead.php?t=12037 details how to make it burn

It’s the same with the seat heating buttons - you press (that is, turn on) and the magic light does not light up on the buttons.

But these buttons should light up...

Anyone who is interested in having an orange light in the button light up when the air conditioner is turned on (similar to the button for turning on the heated rear window). Applies to standard factory air conditioners. Perhaps the plant will solve this problem already or soon. You will need a button to turn on the heated rear window and a piece of wire up to a meter long. A new button is needed because the A/C button does not have a power-on lamp and there is no plug D to power it. We just transfer the overlay with the snowflake icon to the new button and that’s it (don’t be afraid to pull, you won’t break anything). The A/C block does not have a plug for contact D. You can buy one in the store, but I did it simpler. I took the missing plug from the rear window heating button block from contact A - this is the minus to the lower pictogram illumination lamp. This wiring with a plug in the block is superfluous since inside the button on the board there is a track connecting contacts A and C, i.e. the minus is connected to A from contact C. In short, we remove the loop from contact A together with the plug from the heating button block and move the air conditioning buttons to contact D in the block. To make it convenient to stretch the wire, I removed the instrument panel, and removed the air conditioning and heating buttons by sticking my hand in through the hole under the radio, pushing them out along with the wires. Plus for the indicator lamp of a working air conditioner, or it would be more correct to say that the air conditioning compressor is turned on, we take it from the relay for turning it on. This is the 1119 relay on the far right. It's the one under the windshield wiper relay in the fuse box. In the Talmud from the World of Autobooks it is listed as additional. Now we know that it is responsible for turning on the air conditioning compressor. Plus we take from contact 87 of this relay. It appears there when the compressor is turned on, i.e. and the lamp in the button will light up only when the compressor is running. Good luck everyone.
