Just before the start of the Moscow Motor Show 2018, AvtoVAZ revealed all the information about the restyled Lada Granta 2018-2019 family. It is represented by models in four body types: sedan, liftback, hatchback and station wagon. At the same time, the last two versions are restyled Lada Kalina - Tolyatti residents decided to abandon this brand and, after modernization, included the cars in the Granta line.
Sales of the updated Grant will start on August 30, at which time full price lists with detailed prices and configurations will be published. However, the base cost of the models has already been named: the cheapest will be the sedan with a price starting from 419,900 rubles, followed by the hatchback and liftback - from 436,900 rubles, and finally, for the station wagon you will have to pay no less than 446,900 rubles. Later, the family will be replenished with the elevated Lada Granta Cross station wagon (a new version of the previous Kalina Cross) and sports modifications of the Granta Sport in sedan and hatchback bodies. In the long term, it is possible that a “warmed-up” liftback with the Sport prefix will enter the market, but so far AvtoVAZ is silent on this matter.
New X-face
All representatives of the new Lada Granta line received a unified front design in the style of Vesta and X-ray. In addition to the modernized bumper, radiator grille and headlights, the nose of the Grant acquired a slightly adjusted hood and different shaped wings. At the same time, some other improvements were made - the washer nozzles moved from the surface of the hood to the panel in front of the windshield, and new soft fender liners appeared in the wheel arches, which better absorb the impacts of gravel flying out from under the wheels and also do not absorb moisture.

The stern was more or less seriously transformed only on the Grant sedan. The trunk lid has undergone a thorough alteration here, receiving an accentuated spoiler-stamping and a recess for the license plate (previously the area for the state sign was located on the bumper). The new Lada Granta station wagon differs slightly from its predecessor, the Lada Kalina 2 station wagon . The body is the same, with a small hood, strongly inclined A-pillars, an almost horizontal roof and slightly inclined rear pillars. The overall picture is often complemented by roof rails.
What has changed? First of all, we are talking about the front, front part. The changes are radical, now they have used graphics, from the front the station wagon looks like a Lada Vesta or Lada X-Ray. In other words, the headlight headlight units have a different shape, although the layout remains the same. The false radiator grille is significantly different. It looks more aggressive, instead of just one lamella. And there are also differences in the front bumper, it is completely different, with chrome inserts.
There are few changes on the side parts, the most noticeable thing is that the turn signal indicators were removed from the front wings, which did not look entirely appropriate, and the body-colored moldings remained in place. They also did not do anything significant with the stern, just small touches on the trunk lid and bumper. Note that the branded rook disappeared and the inscription LADA appeared on the trunk lid, similar to Vesta.
We also note that now all modifications have a bumper in body color.
Interior
The new Lada Granta in the station wagon body is practically no different in interior from the station wagon Lada Kalina 2, but there are changes, albeit insignificant ones. On the dashboard, the two round deflectors on the left and right remained the same, but the rectangular central one curved like an X. Under it, by the way, is a multimedia system unit, and even lower is a heating and ventilation control unit, several service keys.
On the central tunnel, everything is practically unchanged, the gear lever, two cup holders, a niche for small items, but the hand and parking brake lever is different.
The steering wheel is three-spoke. The instrument panel is the same, tachometer on the left, speedometer on the right, between them is the on-board computer screen, only the backlight has changed from the signature green to white.
We worked a little on the seats, changed the upholstery, different headrests, and increased lateral support. The front driver's seat now remains unchanged in some trim levels.
In general, the interior layout was not touched. The Lada Kalina has it, especially for the station wagon, it is quite unique, from the “small spool, but expensive” series. This is only a sub-compact model in appearance, but in fact it is an excellent assistant when traveling to the shops and moving the family with their belongings to the dacha.

The new Lada Granta in the station wagon body is practically no different from its predecessor in technical terms. The range of engines is identical; if the hatchback, sedan and liftback had differences, then all the engines migrated from the basic version to the facelift. The car is equipped with the old familiar petrol engines, with a volume of 1596 cm³, with four cylinders, eight-valve (two valves per cylinder) VAZ 11186, sixteen-valve (four valves per cylinder) VAZ 21126 and VAZ 21127. As for changes, about the pistons. All engines with a volume of 1596 cm³ are equipped with a new Federal Mogul piston group, more precisely since the summer of 2018. The main difference is that the pistons have holes and counterbores, so when they meet the pistons, the valves do not bend.
Transmission options remained unchanged; as before, only front-wheel drive.
The gearboxes are installed as follows:

If we consider it together with Kalina, then the only similarities are the doors. As for the panels, they are original. The head optics are made according to traffic rules and are equipped with daytime running lights. They only start working when the ignition is turned on.

There are no fog lights here. The taillights are large. Installed at the corners of the body. They are made according to a symmetrical design: there is an anti-fog pair on the left, and a 3X pair on the right.
As for the bumpers, they are not painted. In addition, the front bumper is integral with the radiator grille. If we talk about one more difference, then in Kalina you can find gas stops. In the Standard configuration we again came to a scheme with hinges and torsion bars. Here, part of the space is lost, and as a result, it is impossible to install speakers (rear shelf). The way out is to purchase a rear acoustic shelf or install speakers in the rear doors.

The salon is yours. The panel has few details and this is another difference from Kalina. All this should have had a pleasant effect on acoustic comfort. You can see here several shelves and a place for a radio. If we talk about the control of the heater, then it consists of three Kalinovsky “twisters”.
The developers have made the heater perform well. When the first speed is turned on, there is a flow from the air ducts. It is much more powerful than in Kalina. How the heater motor works is completely inaudible. The glove compartment is large, but does not have a backlight.
A lot of niches on the front panel are good, but why so many?
Above it you can see a shelf for passengers. Between the tachometer and speedometer there is a trip computer screen. In the Standard Version, it has little information.
No engine temperature indicator - this is a fashionable trend in modern cars
There is no engine temperature indicator - this is again savings, but it seems that the new cooling system will not present car owners with any unexpected surprises.
The heater block is made according to a German design. With the “Standard” configuration, the steering column cannot be adjusted in height. But it should be noted that its position is chosen optimally so as not to overlap the devices.
An airbag is installed. And the car has no power steering. But turning the steering wheel is quite easy, thanks to the long rack. The door trims are made from one piece. There are places to install speakers in the doors.
The car can be equipped with child seats. Special latching locks are installed in order to lock the rear locks.
- The front seats are comfortable to sit in. The rear sofa has three-point seat belts. They unfold entirely.
- There are no rear head restraints.
- The seat belts on the front seats cannot be adjusted in height.

If the engines have remained virtually unchanged structurally (the only innovation is a groove on the pistons to minimize damage if the timing belt breaks), then the Tolyatti engineers have done a fair amount of work on the transmission. The first innovation concerns cars with manual transmission and AMT - their main gear ratio has increased from 3.7 to 3.9. This has affected the dynamic characteristics: four-door cars with an 87-horsepower engine now accelerate to 100 km/h in 11.6 seconds (previously 12.2 seconds), sedans with a 106-horsepower unit and a manual transmission in 10.5 seconds (previously 10.9 seconds).
“Robot” AMT received its share of improvements. Now he has a “creeping” mode, which allows the car to move off when the brake pedal is released. The manual transmission is also equipped with “Winter” (start from second gear on snowy roads) and “Sport” (faster gear changes) modes. The clutch of the robotic transmission has become more resistant to wear, and the box itself is now much quieter.
To top it all off, in order to improve handling, the new Granta was given shock absorbers and electric power steering with different settings.

Exterior
Externally, the model looks compact and modern, which is explained, first of all, by the improved front part and the original shape of the radiator grille.
The main changes to the new Lada Granta include a new front bumper, decorated with chrome inserts, a wider air intake and new head optics.
The headlights have an elongated shape, which required modifications to some parts of the body (fenders and hood). Additional fog lights are installed on the left and right.

The engine and gearbox remained unchanged. The changes affected the gear ratio of the “robot” and the manual transmission. It increased from 3.7 to 1 to 3.9 to 1. This approach helped improve dynamics and ensure faster acceleration to “hundreds”.
The robotic gearbox now has a “crawling” mode, making it easier to move during traffic jams. By removing the foot from the brake pedal, the driver allows the car to move at a low speed.
There is a “Sport” mode, which is activated using a button and guarantees quick speed changes.
The 2018/2019 Lada Granta hatchback is equipped with the following engines:
- 1.6 liters with eight valves with a capacity of 87 “horses” and 140 N*m. The specified torque is achieved at a rotation speed of 3.8 thousand revolutions per minute. Recommended fuel is AI-95. The engine is complemented by a standard five-speed manual transmission. This combination ensures vehicle acceleration to “hundreds” in 11.6 seconds. The upper “ceiling” of speed is 172 kilometers per hour. Consumption, according to the manufacturer, is 5.3 liters when driving outside the city, 6.8 liters in mixed mode and 9.1 liters when operating the car in a populated area.
- The 1.6-liter intermediate engine has more power - 98 “horses” at 5600 rpm. Torque 145 N*m at 4000 rpm. As in the previous case, the engine is demanding on gasoline and requires AI-95 grade of fuel. The specified engine comes with an automatic transmission from Japan, manufactured by Jatco. With this option, acceleration to “hundreds” takes longer – 13.1 seconds. The upper speed limit is slightly higher - 176 km/h. Gasoline consumption (also AI-95) is 7.2 liters, 9.9 liters, and 6.1 liters for the mixed, urban and non-urban cycles, respectively.
- The top version of the 1.6 liter engine develops power up to 106 “horses” at 5.8 thousand rpm. The rotation torque is 148 N*m at 4.2 thousand rpm. As for the transmission, car owners have two options - manual transmission or “robot”. By choosing a new Lada Granta with a manual transmission, you can count on acceleration to “hundreds” in 10.5 seconds. If the choice fell on a robotic “box”, this parameter increases to 12 seconds. The upper speed limit in both cases is 184 km/h. Fuel consumption also remains unchanged. So, within the city the car “eats” 8.7 liters, on the highway - 5.2 liters, and in mixed mode - 6.5 liters.
As noted, the new Lada Granta uses three types of gearboxes:
- MECHANICAL - guarantees clear and reliable switching. The gearbox uses a cable drive, which reduces vibration levels. A special feature is the use of a German gear shift mechanism, which guarantees smooth operation. The use of a manual transmission improves driving dynamics and allows the car to accelerate to “hundreds” faster.
- AUTOMATED TRANSMISSION. This gearbox option can operate in two modes - manual automatic. The benefit is that the settings are updated and gear shift times are reduced. When you turn on the city mode, the car is easier to drive in traffic jams or in winter. The car starts smoothly, which is important on slippery roads. Enabling the sport mode provides a more dynamic and bright start for the car.
- Automatic transmission. The automatic transmission has good functionality and ensures the smoothest possible transfer of the gearbox to the required position.
Platform and suspension
The new Lada Granta uses the Kalina chassis. Its peculiarity is the presence of a semi-independent rear suspension (spring type), mounted on an elastic beam. The front part has MacPherson struts.
