The spare wheel on the back door is EVIL :)

On the Lada Largus, the manufacturer has allocated space in the trunk for a spare wheel. Today, many drivers, in order to save money, prefer to install LPG (gas equipment). For this reason, they face a problem: where to put the additional wheel, because a gas cylinder is installed in its place.

Some people design special devices for attaching the spare wheel to Largus with their own hands, but they turn out to be too bulky and look unaesthetic. They can also raise questions from traffic police officers, since license plates or lights are often covered with such mounts. The best solution to the problem would be to install a spare wheel on the Largus rear door.

Advantages and disadvantages of fastenings

The spare wheel bracket located on the rear door has a number of advantages:

  • does not spoil the appearance of the car;
  • reliable;
  • easy to operate and install;
  • preserves the ability to use the useful volume of the trunk to the maximum.

The spare wheel mounted on the rear door protects the bumper from possible damage.

Among the shortcomings, it is worth noting the possible sagging of the hinges with all the ensuing consequences - loose closing of the door, distortions, creaks. Car owners also note that the door does not open completely, which makes accessing part of the trunk difficult.

Bracket selection and installation

Brackets for fixing a spare wheel on Largus appeared on the car accessories market not so long ago. There are two types of such fastenings:

  • spare tire holder on the rear door: fixed and rotating versions available;
  • reinforced spare wheel mount - fixed in the trunk opening and to the bottom of the car, replacing the tow bar.

To install the fastener, you do not need to drill new holes for bolted connections; existing standard places are used. The spare wheel on the back door can become a decoration if you purchase an additional cover. It can be ordered in any color and with any inscription.

If there is a conventional bracket, the fastening gate is opened first, then the tailgate. The reinforced lock has its own characteristics: first the left holder is unscrewed, after which the wheel tilts to the right.

Installing the bracket takes no more than 20 minutes:

  • unscrew the upper nuts of the lower and upper hinge of the rear door on the right;
  • the bracket is placed on the vacant seats;
  • screw the hinge nuts and two fastening bolts into the standard places near the door lock.

The installation is complete, all that remains is to put on the protective cap or cover, if any. Installation of a reinforced holder will take more time, since the bracket is fixed to the bottom of the car. This means that a lift or inspection hole will be needed.

In most cars, the spare tire is located in a special niche, which is present in the luggage compartment and is covered with a shelf. In this regard, the designers of the domestic high-capacity station wagon Lada Largus indulged in an unconventional method of placing the spare wheel. And many are interested in the question: where is the spare tire? They placed this wheel in a special basket, which they hung from the outside to the bottom in the trunk area. If the new owner of this model is not aware of the location of the spare tire, then it may take him some time to find this object, during which he is guaranteed to be in complete amazement.

Removing and installing the spare tire on the Largus door

On the Lada Largus, the spare wheel bracket on the trunk door looks organic, which cannot be said about the bottom. The central hook is the main element that takes the weight of the spare tire. For dismantling you will need screwdrivers, a wrench and an assistant. The wheel is fixed according to the instructions:

  1. Fastenings become loose.
  2. The handle, which is located next to the hook, is removed. The handle is the main protection for the wheelbase from falling out of the basket.
  3. The wheel tilts a little, it is important to hold it with your hands while the lower bolts are unscrewed. After this, the spare tire is easily removed.

To return the spare tire to its place, you need to reattach the handle and tighten the hook screws well.

How to remove and install a spare tire in Largus?

Next we will tell you in detail how to remove the spare tire. Since the spare tire in the Lada Largus station wagon we are considering is located in a hard-to-reach place, in order to provide convenient access to it you will need to hang the car with a special lifting device or operate from a hole.

So, let's film!

  1. The basket, which is designed to hold the spare tire suspended, has a special hook. It is secured with a bolt. First, we unscrew the specified fastener a small number of turns. We use a size 17 head with a suitable extension.
  2. Next, we proceed to removing the handle of the basket itself from the specified hook.
  3. Now we need to lower the basket to a certain angle. Here you need to manually hold the spare wheel.
  4. Having achieved this, remove the spare tire and set it aside.
  5. We remove the basket itself from the brackets present on the body elements of the bottom.
  6. When the holding basket is dismantled, you can begin to remove the lock. This is not always required, but you should not lose sight of this point. Here we use a Torx T40 type wrench.

Install the cart.

  1. Before installing the lock body, we install an O-ring, which acts as a gasket between the body element of the Lada Largus and the product considered here.
  2. We fasten the body itself using the indicated two bolts.
  3. We install the hook in its original place and screw in the bolt (not completely) that secures it.
  4. We place the basket levers into the corresponding brackets located on the body.
  5. Now you can stow the spare tire.
  6. We raise the basket itself to the required level, after which we secure the handle in the indicated hook.
  7. Tighten the hook bolt with full torque.

The removal operation should be carried out with sufficient frequency, which will allow you to easily remove the spare tire at the right time in road conditions.

Spare wheel and stowage

For the first time such wheels appeared in a set of cars manufactured by Rambler at the beginning of the 20th century. The idea caught on, and all automakers began installing them on their cars. At the beginning of the century, people often took two additional wheels with them at once.

Spare wheel

Today, all cars are equipped with such products. In many regions, the sale of cars without it is prohibited by law. But the choice of spare tire type remains with the vehicle manufacturer. This can be either a full-size wheel or a removable one. In addition, this role can be played by a unique composition for quickly eliminating a tire puncture.

In a situation where the car has runflat tires, an additional wheel is not required, since this type of tire makes it possible to get to the tire shop even with a punctured tire. The full-size model differs little from standard tires.

Attention!

Since 2014, a procedure has been established that provides for the replacement of spare tires according to the season.

The disadvantage of a full-size product is that its placement, especially in a situation where the car is initially equipped with large-diameter wheels, requires enough space. In addition, the wheel is heavy and difficult to remove from its storage location.

Many car owners do not know where the spare tire is hidden in their car.

That is why, before traveling, it is paramount to understand how to get a spare tire 35 or a spare tire 52. When choosing, it is important to pay attention to:

  • Location. Usually the wheel is located under the flooring in the luggage compartment of the car. Some spare tires may be located in the basket under the car. The place should be checked regularly, as the thread may rust and removing the spare wheel will be impossible.
  • Types of products. Since the standard size of tires in the starter kit is increasingly larger today, manufacturers prefer a narrow-size spare wheel of the “biscuit” type (repeat wheel). The small-width spare wheel is simply placed in a separate storage location under cover in the luggage compartment of the car. It should be noted that the re-roller does not have the full performance qualities that a standard car wheel has. The rolling wheel allows a maximum speed limit of 80 km/h and requires careful driving. This is explained by the fact that its small width provokes a difference in traction with the other three tires of the car. If the dokatka is on the right, then you need to be careful when turning left and back, especially when moving on a wet road.
  • Even if the spare tire is a “fifth wheel”, it is the same component as the others. Therefore, it is important to care for all tires equally: check the pressure, monitor the condition of the wheel components.

Attention!

R14 spare tire organizers are great for storing useful items. Organizers for the spare tire are sold in car dealerships.

A dokatka is a compact spare tire; it is placed at the scene of an accident when prompt repairs are impossible. A dokatka (another name is a banana spare tire) is called that because it allows you to roll to a car service center. The finishing wheel cannot be used continuously.

A full-size spare tire is the same size as a car wheel. That is, the vehicle is equipped not with four, but with five wheels. Such products require storage space in the car compartment. Manufacturers either sacrifice this space or use a small size that is smaller in size.

Dokatka

The car may not have a spare tire - instead, there will be a do-it-yourself tire repair kit. This is due to the fact that runflat wheels, which are installed on modern cars, can travel on punctured tires up to 50 km/h. This is usually enough to get to the workshop. Spare:

  • required for temporary use, not permanently;
  • has a smaller standard size;
  • has higher pressure than a standard tire.

Therefore, you should periodically check the air in the wheel - the norm is on average 4.2 kg/cm², which should be written on the sticker on the spare wheel of the car.

Important!

On a snow-covered road surface, you cannot place a spare tire on the front axle: if the tire is damaged, it is replaced with the rear one, and a spare tire is placed at the rear.

Moving the spare tire to the stern door

If the owner has set out to convert the engine of his Lada Laprgus to gas fuel, then installation of gas cylinder equipment will be required. But where to install the cylinder itself? It is for these purposes that owners move the spare wheel to the rear door, freeing up space for installing a container for fuel. In this case, there is only one way out - a spare wheel for the rear door.

For these purposes, you will need to acquire an appropriate device called a bracket. It allows you to securely fix the spare wheel on the surface of the stern door. The estimated price of such a device fluctuates around 4 thousand rubles.

There are a couple of design options for the bracket in the implementation network. Among them:

  • a rotary type bracket installed on the surface of the rear right door;
  • a product of reinforced construction, the fastenings of which are installed under the bottom in the luggage opening.

Both options involve mounting the bracket on standard points on the body. There are corresponding holes for these purposes. Here the manufacturer saved the owners from the need for modifications in terms of constructing additional holes.

How to make a gate for a spare tire with your own hands

Wicket option
This product can be made with the skills, materials, tools and welding machine. The easiest way is to bend a metal tube using a pipe bender, then weld the hinges and jumper. The wheel is secured with bolts. It is important to make a spacer:

  • Take a square tube 2.5x2.5 cm, make a square out of it according to the dimensions of the gate for the spare wheel.
  • Drill 4 holes to match the holes in the bracket.
  • Then take a rubber mat for the battery from a VAZ-2106 or AZLK-2141.
  • Place the mat on superglue to protect it from scratches. Then use a blade to cut off all excess and screw the gate together with the spacer to the towbar.

The spacer is welded and has a fairly large area, the load is distributed evenly.

Attention!

Canisters for spare tires can be purchased at a specialized store. The canister is placed inside the tire - this is convenient.

Bracket for spare wheel

This bracket allows you to hold both the spare tire and the spare wheel with equally good efficiency. This product is also not capable of interfering with the functioning of parking sensors and allows you to install a tow bar without additional effort.

  • length – 55 cm;
  • width – a similar parameter (55 cm);
  • height does not exceed 30 cm;
  • The weight of the product is 5 kg.

In addition to the specified bracket, manufacturers include a cover for the spare tire, made of eco-leather, or a hard plastic cap.
