If you are a caring car owner, then the safety of your car is probably important to you. It is for this reason that many car owners purchase full-fledged alarm systems.
Every year people face a huge number of thefts, so the requirements for alarm systems are constantly increasing. Today, modern alarms can do things that they couldn’t do just a few years ago. In this article you will learn how to choose the right device for yourself, what it is for, how it works, and most importantly, how not to make a mistake when making a choice.
What are car alarms with auto start?
Why are they needed and where are they used?
Why do you need a car alarm? Surely you asked yourself this question when you looked around the store counter and saw high prices for such goods. But in fact, the need for such a product is difficult to underestimate.
Let's look at specific examples of why we came to this conclusion:
- An alarm system is primarily necessary to ensure the safety of the vehicle while you are away from it.
The car informs you about attacks that have been made against it. - In addition, the alarm allows you to save not only the car itself, but also the property that is inside it.
- Modern alarm systems are equipped with additional functionality.
Among them there is auto start, which is very important in the winter season. When you go to work, you will not sit on the cold seat of your car, thereby getting another stress after getting up early. You will be greeted by a warm, heated interior. This is very important for families with children. - In addition to autostart, there are functions that allow you to start the engine so that it does not stagnate, and also saturates the car interior with oxygen.
All these functions are contained in a tiny box that you have at your fingertips called the remote control.
You can find out more about the useful functions of your alarm in the instructions.
Where can such devices be used? Of course, in cars. However, we are talking only about passenger cars. Trucks are equipped only with special alarms that are designed for large vehicles.
How it works: device and principle of operation
To understand how auto-start of a standard alarm works, you do not need to have programming skills. It's quite simple. Let's look at how such a device functions:
- The system unit has an electronic board in which it is possible to set parameters.
- This unit connects to certain sensors and ignition contacts. A special relay helps with this.
- The block itself can be located absolutely anywhere in the vehicle.
- It connects to the following devices: tachometer, gas pedal, ignition, speed and oil pressure sensor, gear lever, hood limit switch, glow plugs.
- After the remote control receives the specified parameters, the signal from the key fob or mobile phone goes to the relay.
- The pressure is checked, this takes 4 seconds.
After this, the starter starts. If you own a diesel engine, you will need an additional check of the spark plugs. - Depending on the device settings, there may be several startup attempts. Three are given for each relay.
Despite the fact that when autostart is running, the owner has no control over the situation in the cabin, it is still a very useful function. It allows you to control your car remotely while preparing for a trip.
Ways to bypass the standard immobilizer
Despite the fact that the statistics of car thefts and thefts are inexorable, we receive up-to-date information about what methods are available to bypass the standard immobilizer. Let's get to know them in more detail:
- Bypass rfid immobilizer. This type is characterized by the fact that there is a chip inside the ignition key that transmits a signal at low power. This signal will be considered an antenna.
You can simply remove the chip from the key and then tape it to the antenna. In this case, the immobilizer will be deactivated.Therefore, modules for bypassing the immobilizer will come to your aid. The module looks like a box with an additional key already inserted into it. Connecting it is very simple, just follow the special diagram.
- There is a way to bypass the immobilizer in VAS systems. Cars are equipped with an ignition key that already has a resistor built into it:
- When starting, the system will not detect the necessary resistance, and the starter circuits will be blocked.
- You need to determine the value of the resistor.
- The resistance will be 11800 Ohms.
- You need to take a resistor whose error is no more than 5%!
- After that we look for the VAZ wires.
- After this, you need to use the circuit to connect a resistor and cut one of the wires.
Reviews of alarm systems with auto start: pros and cons
Based on reviews on the Internet, you can find a huge number of pros and cons that characterize your alarm system with auto start. Let's get acquainted with the opinions of customers. Pros:
- It is possible to leave the house to a vehicle ready to travel.
- Significant time savings. Using autostart will allow you not to waste time and health on warming up the car.
- There is no problem with starting the engine, even if you decide to use the vehicle in severe frost.
- Thanks to autostart, the engine will not cool down, which means it will start at any time after you get into the vehicle.
But there are also disadvantages that also do not manifest themselves in the best way:
- This is the need to put the car on the handbrake.
- Since the vehicle starts without human intervention, the gearbox will be in neutral.
- If the vehicle is not on a level surface, it may move forward. Therefore, it is better to use the handbrake.
- Theft protection has also been reduced, as you can use methods to bypass the immobilizer and hack the system.
- There is a fact of increased fuel consumption. Buyers and car owners have long been saying that heating takes a fairly large amount of gasoline.
- You can also come out in the morning to a completely discharged battery. After all, when starting the motor, a huge amount of current is consumed. After autostart, the car may simply not drive.

Installing the system on a car
You should not try to install a car alarm on your car yourself. You risk damaging components or even harming your vehicle. If you do not have relevant experience, it is better to turn to specialists.
Installation prices
Today, prices for alarm installation vary depending on the complexity of the work done, the make of your car, and the alarm model.
So, on average, installing a middle-class alarm system on a foreign car will cost you from 2,000 to 5,000 rubles.
If we are talking about installing a medium or premium class device, the cost of which is above 20,000 rubles, then you will have to pay an amount from 8,000 to 10,000.
A standard device can be installed at a low cost for just 3,000 rubles.
The main thing is to choose trusted professionals who will not ruin the alarm system, will not disable it, but, on the contrary, will do everything to the highest standard.
Read reviews, contact former clients. Only after putting together positive data, trust the money and the device to the master.
Cost of alarms
The cost of the alarm directly depends on the brand and model you purchase, the name of the manufacturer, the amount of functionality, as well as the quality of the assembly itself.
You can purchase an inexpensive model for 3,000 rubles. However, you will not get the functionality you need.
As for the middle price segment, there is an alarm system worth from 5,000 to 10,000 rubles. This is a good device with a good set of features.
If you want a premium device with high sensitivity, then you will have to count on up to 25,000 - 30,000 rubles. However, you will get the best device from the entire market that will suit all your every whim and desire.
Where to buy an alarm system with automatic engine start?
If you want to purchase an alarm system with auto start, then you should do this only in specialized stores, without turning to private traders and unverified suppliers.

An alarm system with auto start is a good purchase. As a result, you will receive a good device that will fully satisfy all your requirements and desires. The most important thing is to make the right choice in favor of one or another device or model.
The main thing is that the device can be mounted in the body of your car. And if this is possible, then we can congratulate you on your purchase.
It is difficult to find a car owner who would not give a damn about the safety of his “iron horse”. It is for this reason that today every car has an alarm system installed. But since the requirements for this kind of anti-theft protection are growing every year , so is the supply of manufacturers. Thus, modern alarm systems are even equipped with an autostart system. That is, sitting in the kitchen in the morning with a cup of coffee, you can warm up the engine of your car. Isn't it a miracle?
But still, an alarm system with auto start has many features that you should know about before purchasing it. Also, there are a large number of its variations, which will be discussed in particular in the article below.
- 1. Automatic alarm system: what is it and how does it function?
- 2. Benefits and disadvantages that an alarm system with automatic engine start can bring
- 3. GSM module: signal transmission features

Automatic alarm system: what is it and how does it function?
The alarm itself is nothing more than a special electronic device that is installed on a car to protect against theft, theft of its parts and things that are in the cabin. Such a system has the ability to respond to an attempt to open the car doors, its hood, trunk, try to tilt the car body, break headlights or glass. Modern alarms are so sensitive that they go off even when vibration occurs.
To do this, highly sensitive sensors are placed throughout the car, which the owner can turn on and off by simply pressing a button on the remote control. The alarm allowed car owners to forget about the need to lock every door inside the car and lock the driver's door with a key.
The most modern “alarm”, which has the “automatic engine start” function installed, is a real godsend for busy people. It allows you to start the car engine without the direct participation of the driver. This advantage allows not only to increase driving comfort, but also to significantly save the car owner’s time (especially in our harsh climatic conditions, when it is impossible to hit the road without pre-warming).
That is, when on a frosty January morning you need to warm up the engine, the only thing you need to do is go to the window of your apartment and press the corresponding button on the car key fob. Then you can calmly sit down to have breakfast, drink tea and leisurely get ready for work.
By the time you get down to the car, the engine will have time to warm up well to the temperature level necessary for driving, and will also provide good traction. This device is no less practical in cases where the car needs to be warmed up while in a supermarket, market or underground parking. But like any other electronic system, an auto-start alarm also has one big drawback that can interfere with signal transmission. If there are other security systems in the vicinity of your car, or radio wave signals pass between you and the car, autostart may not work.
In this regard, we will immediately give you the following recommendation: when purchasing this type of alarm, immediately pay attention to the signal range. The fact that the packaging will indicate sky-high figures of 1.5-2 km is not at all evidence that you can really start the engine at such a distance. Well, perhaps, being in an open field, but not in a city. Therefore, before making such a purchase, you can ask to test the system in some advanced store, or ask for reviews from car owners you know personally, or contact them on forums.
If you launch from a fairly short distance (no more than 300 meters), then you will not have to worry about malfunctioning of the system. Motorists will also be pleased that many alarms have an autostart function, which allows you to program the system for a certain time or for certain time periods. That is, the engine will start even without pressing the key fob button, constantly keeping the engine oil warm.
We recommend: How to change the oil in a Toyota Hilux automatic transmission yourself?
And this is still far from the perfection of alarm systems with auto start. The latest models allow you to set certain conditions for starting the engine. For example, a guideline for this can be either the temperature indicator outside the car, or in the cabin, or directly in the engine itself.
The benefits and disadvantages that an alarm system with automatic engine start can bring
Despite all the ostentatious simplicity and accessibility of such “signals”, along with the benefits they bring to car owners, they also make him suffer a lot. This is due to the fact that the autostart system is not so easy to connect with anti-theft devices that have already been installed on the car up to this point. The most common problem is that the standard immobilizer simply prevents the engine from starting without using a code key, which must be inserted into a special slot inside the car. It turns out that the driver has to choose between the safety of the car and his own comfort.
But you shouldn’t get upset right away. At this point, it is important not to forget that autostart does not set the car in motion, but only provokes a preliminary start of the car’s power unit. Therefore, to eliminate contradictions with the options of standard security elements, you will need to install a bypass immobilizer unit on your car. Thanks to this very simple device, it will be possible to start the engine into operation mode both automatically and remotely, while the entire standard protection system will continue to function fully without interference or failure.
You will also be pleased that the same bypass immobilizer unit is installed deep in the engine compartment. This makes it very difficult for attackers to find and neutralize it. To further increase your own safety and the safety of your car, it is recommended to make duplicates of digital keys (chips from the bypass unit), which will always be with you.
Be that as it may, the main task of the autostart system is not protection, but the creation of increased comfort for car owners. Its only significant advantage is the ability to pre-start the engine remotely to warm up or cool the interior. This system does not provide any obvious protective functions. The advantages include a huge set of a wide variety of autorun modes, which are determined by specific models of “alarms”.
GSM module: signal transmission features
Many car security systems, including alarm systems with auto start, have GSM modules installed. At their core, these are universal devices, the main purpose of which is to urgently notify the car owner about the opening or penetration of a protected car, which is carried out by transmitting a corresponding signal to the phone or security remote control.
Non-volatile sensors are installed directly on the car itself, which react sensitively even to an attempt to penetrate and transmit a signal to the owner. Signaling systems based on GSM modules are considered the most reliable and safe. The fact is that their signal cannot be scanned, so a hijacker, even with the most modern equipment, will not be able to intercept the module’s dialog code. They force you to respect such a system and its technical characteristics:
– for operation, the “signaling” uses standard GSM communication channels;
– The GSM seal is very easy to install and mount on the car;
– its operation cannot be interfered with by either bad weather conditions or strong temperature changes (it can fully function at temperatures from -35°C to +75°C);
– is a non-volatile device because it runs on batteries; The charging power is enough for 7 thousand. triggering;
– the design of the module is completely waterproof, which allows it to be installed in any part of the car;
– quite compact in size.
Thus, the GSM module is ideal for both our unreliable climate and our roads. For this reason, they are widely used in both regular passenger cars and SUVs.
Advantages of using a CAN module in an alarm system with auto start
We have already mentioned above such a problem as the incompatibility of the alarm system with autostart and standard electronic protection. It is for this solution that special CAN modules were created, which allow harmonizing the operation of the two named systems. Such modules are installed on many modern car models. However, if you install the CAN module yourself, you may encounter the fact that your car cannot support its interface. In this case, only a special adapter will save you.
Generally speaking, CAN modules are a controller network that allows you to interconnect a large number of controllers and sensors. According to the creator’s idea, using CAN modules, the signal can be transmitted via conventional radio channels, as well as via optical fiber, but most often a special “bus” is used for this purpose. In cars, using this “bus,” the ECU communicates with the main and secondary sensors (or any other devices).
It is the CAN module that is capable of ensuring uninterrupted operation of both the standard bus and the car’s security system. The big advantage of this device is that it makes it possible to almost completely eliminate the need to interfere with standard automotive wiring. Its installation is quite simple and will not allow even the most inexperienced motorist to make a mistake. Also, it synchronizes the operation of automatic alarms and other electronic car systems.
This system works as follows: a special adapter reads information from the main “bus” and transfers it to analog. It is the analog signal that goes to the “signaling” control unit. The CAN module makes it possible for the alarm system to interact with absolutely all of its systems - to control the movements of windows, doors, climate control and even engine starting. The CAN module greatly increases the reliability of the alarm system and is also quite quickly installed on the car. But it is worth mentioning other advantages of this system:
– for its installation there is no need to disassemble the interior or other serious interventions in the design of the car;
– the ability to connect additional service functions, which include engine autostart;
– thanks to the compact size of CAN modules, many car thieves don’t even notice that the car has an alarm installed.
Tips and recommendations for those who are going to buy an alarm system with auto start
So, you are a busy person and very often you do not have enough time to properly warm up the engine of your car before driving. Such driving greatly wears out the mechanism, so you decided to take care of your own time and the comfort of your car by purchasing an alarm system with auto start. However, before such a purchase, you need to thoroughly understand the following nuances of your technical product:
– car model and series;
– what type of engine – petrol or diesel;
– gearbox type – automatic/manual.
Also, you need to decide in advance what type of engine start you want to install on your car. After all, as we mentioned above, both remote and fully automatic with preliminary setting of the necessary launch parameters. Don’t forget to test the system offered to you in advance and determine whether the key fob signal will be picked up from the window of your house to the parking lot where you usually leave your car (after all, this distance is usually no more than 400 meters).
You can choose the most sophisticated alarm system, which has many additional functions. However, it is worth considering in advance that the more functional the “sinalka” is, the more expensive it is. Today, the price for it can vary from one to several thousand hryvnia. And although the safety of the car is paramount for many, it is also not recommended to overpay for unnecessary bells and whistles, since very often they only interfere with normal driving.

Review of the most popular and reliable alarm models with auto start Since every year the demand for the “auto engine start” system is constantly growing, the supply of a wide variety of models is also growing. Over the years, drivers have already managed to test most of them and identify a list of leaders who have earned respect due to their reliability and uninterrupted operation. Thus, the most popular brands of alarm systems with auto start today are considered to be:
– “Starline”;
– “Sherkhan” (Scher-Khan);
– “Pandora” (Pandora).
The autostart systems of the security systems of cars of the above brands boast a very wide range of different modes of automatic and remote engine starting. Thus, you can operate the motor at a certain time, at specific time intervals, or at specific voltage levels of the on-board network. The advantage of such “signals” is that they can be fully installed on cars with any type of engine and any gearbox.
As an example, let's take a closer look at the advantages of such a popular signaling system as Sher-Khan Magicar
version 7.9 and all subsequent ones. As indicated in the instructions, the key fob can send signals to the car and receive them in reverse order, even at a distance of 2 thousand km. Of course, you and I understand that this is not entirely true, but still, even in the urban jungle, this system is quite pleasing. Also, this model of “alarm” with auto start has the following list of additional options:
– this model is designed in such a way as not to make it possible to record duplicate key fobs without the consent of the car owner and the alarm system;
– the central locking system, electric sunroof and power window can be individually programmed and controlled using a key fob;
– the ability to connect an innumerable number of additional electronic systems;
– the ability to silently turn on and off the security mode.
As for the alarm systems produced by Starline
and
"Pandora"
, then they also have good performance and functionality. However, they have one significant disadvantage in the price aspect. If the standard alarm system will cost you quite little, then additional options such as automatic start can raise the price by 50%!
However, this is due to the use of an interactive method of encoding the transmitted signal, which is safer today. Sherkhan practically does not use this system, and the two indicated brands have been installing it on their products for a very long time.
This one should also be included among the three named brands. The alarm system with auto start of this production primarily attracts with its low cost and a very large set of a wide variety of modes. However, no matter how serious its options are, even all together they are not able to overcome the shortcomings of dynamic encoding of transmitted signals, which significantly reduces its level of security.
Finally, I would like to note the following. No matter how expensive an alarm system with auto start is and no matter how cool the module is on it, all this can be absolutely useless if the system is installed incorrectly. Thus, to install an alarm, it is best to seek help from specialists or those people who have already dealt with it several times. We hope that our advice will help protect your car from break-ins, theft and theft.

How to identify a model by markings?
You can determine the brand and model of the alarm system by the markings, which are located on the back cover of the control key fob. To do this, you need to turn the device over and find a sticker with a barcode on it. Below it is a line that begins with the identification number of the security system instance, consisting of 8 characters (for example, ID: NJQ578LO). Then, after a space, the signaling model is written, usually consisting of 1 letter and 1-2 numbers. In the same way, you can determine the type of security system using a spare key fob.
Location of information about the Starline alarm model
The sticker with the marking is not always preserved unchanged: if the remote control is not used carefully, it may be erased or lost completely. In such a situation, there is another way to find out the Starline alarm model from the key fob: you can disassemble the device. Often the name of the security system is duplicated on the inside of the remote control housing. It also makes sense to check for information about the series of the key fob under the cover covering the battery.
Why is autorun bad?
But this, as they say, is only one side of the coin, there is also a reverse, as many as seven reverses:
- Risk of theft. As a rule, autostart is installed in the car, bypassing the immobilizer. This means that the car becomes less secure and easier to steal.
- Increased fuel consumption. If you calculate: engine start plus 10-20 minutes of engine operation and multiply this by 3-4 times on a frosty night, you get a rather large number. Both in liters and in rubles.
- Risk of fire. This is not a widespread phenomenon, but several cases of car fires due to incorrectly installed autostart have already been recorded.
- Freezing of brake pads. For autostart to work, you have to put the car on the handbrake, and this is not very good for the brake pads - in severe frosts they can freeze.
- Increased gas pollution. If the parking lot is located under the windows of high-rise buildings, then residents of the lower floors may not like it. Mothers, dog lovers, idle old ladies and simply sympathizers will not like this either. In short, there will be someone to quarrel with.
- Increased load on the battery. In cars with automatic start, the battery is discharged much more often.
- Low efficiency on some vehicles. On cars with a small engine capacity and with turbocharging, autostart is of little use. Such cars take a very long time to warm up and very poorly.
As is clear from the above, autostart has its pros and cons, and only after studying them and deciding on your priorities should you decide whether to install it on your car or not.

Using autorun correctly
There are several algorithms for the correct operation of autostart, if followed, unforeseen situations will not occur (for example, the car moving independently). These algorithms are different for vehicles with manual and automatic transmissions.
Algorithm for manual transmission:
- engage neutral gear
- engage the parking brake
- get out of the car, close the doors
- turn on the alarm, activate the engine autostart system.
Many car enthusiasts are accustomed to leaving the gear in gear when turning off the engine. When installing autostart, they will have to get used to leaving the car in “neutral”, otherwise the autostart module will not activate. However, manufacturers of autostart systems for cars with manual transmission have solved this problem by equipping the device with the so-called “software neutral”, which will not turn off the engine until neutral gear is engaged.
Algorithm for automatic transmission:
- move the gear selector to Parking mode
- get out of the car, close the doors
- turn on the alarm, activate the engine autostart system.
If you do not perform at least one of the above actions, the autostart system will not be activated.
Model identification by built-in functions
You can determine from the key fob which Starline brand alarm system is installed by the functions displayed on the device display in the form of icons. For example, the option to autostart the internal combustion engine is present only in models with the number “9”, and alarms A6/A9 and A91 do not have the ability to work with the CAN module.
A car owner who knows all the functions of the control panel can easily determine the model of the Starline security system using the table:

An overview of the Starline alarm key fob and control of its buttons is presented by the “REALAUT0” channel.
Oil pressure monitoring
The pressure sensor works like this: when the pressure level is insufficient, the voltage at the sensor output becomes low, about 0.5 Volts. And vice versa, if the required level is reached, the sensor produces 12 Volts. If a control lamp is turned on between the sensor output and the “+12” potential, its lighting will indicate insufficient pressure. Everything is simple here. And the alarm wire is connected to the sensor output, that is, to the “negative” contact of the lamp.
Oil pressure lamp on the dash
The method discussed in this chapter has some problems:
- The oil pressure light should go out as soon as the engine starts and starts running without the help of the starter. In practice, a time lag is typical, and its value for some cars is 2–3 seconds;
- At low temperatures, the opposite effect is observed on many cars: the pressure lamp goes out before the engine starts. In this case, use any control option other than what is discussed here.
The starter operating time is set by software, and it can range from 2 to 4 seconds. But if the time lag is 2-3 seconds, then the question immediately arises whether there is any point in making any connections at all. We'll leave the choice to the owner.

Using Internet services
You can determine the Starline car alarm model using the key fob using the following Internet services:
- The official Starline website contains an online catalog of both existing alarm models and discontinued samples. Each security system presented on the resource has an image of a control key fob. The user has the opportunity to visually compare his remote control with the pictures posted on the website and identify the model range and device number.
- In addition to official sources, you can use the resource “Theft. No ". It also contains images of key fobs of various alarm brands, including Starline. In addition, the specialists of this site have created a community where the car owner has the opportunity to post a photo of the remote control and receive comments from other users who may know the answer.
- There is another option for identifying the device - using the Google image search engine. You should take a photo of the keychain, preferably in good quality, and upload the image to the search. Google will find all similar images, under which the car owner can look at the name of the model and determine which series it belongs to.
Searching for a photo of a key fob on Google is done step by step like this:
