Lada Granta climate control installation

Controlling the climate system of a Lada Granta car

In 2014, the domestic AvtoVAZ plant presented to its fans another modified version of the Lada Grant. Well-equipped, containing almost the entire list of modern equipment for which famous Western and Eastern models are famous, this car won the hearts of a multimillion-dollar audience and today has become one of the top three leaders on the Russian market. One of the advantages of the Lada Granta model is a good climate system, which only five to seven years ago manufacturers and drivers could only dream of. What is the climate system of the Lada Granta, what are its design features, pros and cons, possible breakdowns?

How does a stove fan work?

The main task of the fan is to take air flow from the outside and deliver it to the deflectors.

The fan is activated by a mechanical button, to which a 12 V power supply is supplied. In the Lada Granta version, the fan operates at one of three speeds. The driver selects the most optimal mode depending on the temperature inside the cabin.

Additional resistors Grants

Without resistors, the fan operates at one speed with a stable rpm. There are a total of 3 resistors installed on the board.

When the lever is moved to the first position (three resistors), the fan rotates at the first speed, the very minimum. Transfer to the second position - second speed (two resistors). Transfer to third - third speed (one resistor). The detailed diagram of the stove is shown in the photo.

Air distributor flap

Installed to regulate the air flow coming from the fan to the glass for blowing through air ducts.

Often, deformation and bending of the plastic body under the influence of temperature leads to flow leakage and depressurization.

Temperature control flap

Regulates the supply of warm air flow from the stove heater to the car interior. The wider the damper is open, the greater the throughput of the “channel”, and vice versa, the narrower it is, the less.

Heat exchanger Grants

Its main purpose is to heat the air flow entering the cabin. The heat exchanger is connected to the power unit through two rubber pipes: supply and return for fluid circulation.

The standard location is the central part of the dashboard of the car interior.

Air temperature sensor inside the car

Structurally installed inside a plastic interior lighting lamp. To avoid overheating, the sensor is equipped with a forced airflow system.

The installation is designed so as not to distort the actual temperature readings.

Pipes

Rubber pipes literally permeated the entire cooling, stove heating, and air conditioning system. Without their help, it is impossible to connect sections of highways with each other. Fixation method: with clamps, metal ties.

Climate control Grants

In previous years, all that a car owner could count on was an average stove, which would malfunction every now and then. But time does not stand still, and neither does technology. Various systems appeared that could be installed on cars, such as air conditioning Frost, August, Fridget and others. But the development did not stop there.

Now domestic manufacturers have decided to follow the path trodden by Western and Japanese concerns and begin installing a climate control system on their projects. The elegant and dynamic Lada Granta became such a pioneer. Climate control Grants includes an advanced heating system and an additional ventilation system.

Climate control is a rather complex structure, powered by an electrical device that drives an installed turbine fan. Not only ventilation is carried out here, but also air purification, which occurs thanks to the presence of special filters made of durable, environmentally friendly material.

When the windows are open, the exhaust is carried out through the windows, but in winter and autumn, when cold weather does not allow the glass to be lowered, in the old days there was a problem with the exhaust, but now it is carried out due to reflectors located under the rear bumper. So the atmosphere in the salon is ideal at any time of the year, no stuffiness, foreign odors, etc. And this, of course, is a huge plus for the car’s designers.

The Lada Granta's climate system switches from one mode to another by simply pressing a switch, which activates a cable, which, in turn, acts on the damper. In this way, the air flow is redirected either from the street or from the radiator stove.

Air distribution

Heating system Lada GrantaHeating system of Lada Granta
Distribution of air flows from deflectors and air ducts of the heating (air conditioning) system and ventilation of the LADA Granta interior.

The following air flow distribution elements are located in the cabin:

  1. front door glass blower nozzles;
  2. side air supply nozzles to the driver and passenger in the front seat or to the front door windows;
  3. windshield blower nozzles;
  4. central air supply nozzles to the cabin;
  5. air ducts supplying air to the feet of passengers in the rear seat;
  6. air ducts for supplying air to the driver's and front passenger's footwells.

The quantity, temperature, direction and intensity of air flows are controlled by switches installed in the system control unit.

Possible faults

Like any complex device, the climate control of the Lada Grant tends to fail, and in order to save time on detecting a breakdown, it is worth knowing the possible malfunctions of this system. As a rule, breakdowns occur in the heating mode (so important for the extreme conditions of the Russian climate). Already in the second or third year of operation, a significant decrease in the supply of hot air or a failure in the system for switching the flow of hot and cold air may be observed.

Such disturbances in the system occur either due to clogged filters or due to a defective fan. It is often prone to failure due to the fact that it is made of fragile material. To restore the operation of the system, you should replace the filters, and if after that you notice a drop in the speed of the electric motor, then you need to check its voltage. The ideal voltage is 0.5 V.

If the reading is below this figure, it means the contact in the fan is broken. If the voltage is normal, but the problem is obvious, then you will have to repair or even replace the electric motor. It also happens that it’s hot outside and you want frosty freshness. You get into the car in confidence that the climate control will not let you down. But when you turn on the system, you realize that instead of the expected cold breeze, hot air from the stove is coming into the cabin.

What does it mean to change places of cold and heat in this case? This means that the damper drive has become unusable: a break, a cable, a switch, etc. It is also possible that the antifreeze level has dropped, which disrupts the coolant circulation.

And finally, the third reason for such a failure may be a simple clogging of the radiator tubes. To fix the problem, you need to either replace the tubes or clean them, or normalize the antifreeze level, or put the damper in order. Very often the climate system malfunctions due to an air lock. It can be removed in two ways:

  • drive the front wheels onto a small hill and run the engine at high speeds;
  • Drain and refill with new coolant.

DIY repair

The climate control of the Lada is susceptible to various mechanical defects, which are sometimes quite difficult to detect, but they lead to real system failures. Therefore, here you need to use a device such as a flaw detector and use it to detect a malfunction. For repair work you will need the following:

Let's say we have a problem with a non-working heater speed controller. The first thing we need to do is dismantle the climate control, which will require unscrewing the screws and removing the device. It should be removed carefully so as not to damage the too fragile plastic. You also need to remove the connectors. The positive point here is that the connectors are marked which one should be installed and where.

Next, we carry out dismantling in the block itself. Unscrew the screws in the back panel and remove the cover. Now your eyes will see a fascinating picture of a very complex board. Here you need to arm yourself with instructions. Next, we solder all places with defects (cracks and other defects can be detected with a magnifying glass).

Having finished soldering, we mount the device back and be sure to connect the connectors. All that remains is to check the work and enjoy the excellent atmosphere of warmth and comfort in the salon of the beautiful Lada Granta.

Climate system "Lada Granta"

The climate system of the Lada Granta includes a forced ventilation system and a cabin heating system. Air is supplied to the system by a turbine-type centrifugal fan driven by an electric motor through an air intake installed under the windshield frame. To purify the air, a filter element made of non-woven material is used. The exhaust is carried out through open windows, and when they are closed, through exhaust reflectors built into the rear of the body under the bumper.

To switch from the ventilation mode to the heating mode, a rotary switch is used, which, using a cable, moves the damper to redirect the flow of air taken from the street through the radiator of the Lada Granta stove, or bypass it.

Malfunctions of the Lada Granta climate system are noticeable mainly when operating in heating mode. They can be expressed in the absence or weak air supply, the supply of cold air to the heated place and vice versa, the fan not operating in all modes or its malfunction. Weak air supply is possible due to a clogged filter element or a fan malfunction, which leads to

to reduce its speed. To eliminate this, it is necessary to replace the filter element, and when the speed of the electric motor decreases, measure the voltage at its connector. The voltage drop is allowed no more than 0.5.V relative to the voltage in the on-board network. If the voltage is below normal, it is necessary to eliminate contact failure in the fan circuit connections. It can be detected by inspecting the connections for melting and darkening of the plastic. If the voltage is normal, the fan motor should be repaired or replaced.

If heated air is supplied instead of cold air, this indicates a malfunction of the damper drive (the switch is faulty, the cable is torn, the damper is broken, etc.). In the case when cold air is supplied instead of heated air, then to the above listed malfunctions you can add a reduced level of antifreeze and a disruption in the circulation of coolant through the heater radiator due to air entering the system and the formation of an air lock or a malfunction of the cooling system pump. Also, circulation disruption is possible due to low coolant flow through the heater radiator due to clogging or coking of its tubes. Elimination of mechanical damage is carried out based on the results of inspection and decision-making based on damage. The cause of the formation of an air lock may be due to improper filling or ingress of exhaust gases into the engine cooling system. To eliminate the airlock, you can try to position the car in such a way that the radiator of the cooling system is as high as possible, for example, drive the front wheels onto an overpass and let the engine run at speeds slightly above average. The second way is to drain the coolant and refill it according to the manufacturer's instructions. Exhaust gases can enter the cooling system through microcracks in the combustion chamber of the cylinder head. These cracks can only be detected using a flaw detector; in this case, coolant will not enter the combustion chamber.

If the fan does not rotate in the Lada Granta climate system, it is necessary to check the integrity of the fuse and the presence of power at the fan connector. A blown fuse must be replaced, and if there is no power at the fan connector, check the power circuit according to the diagram. It’s best to start with the fan control module, checking the power on it, and if there is power, put a jumper between the power wire and any wire on the heater motor (thick wires on the same connector). If the heater fan does not work in only one mode, then the resistance used to change the speed or the switch is faulty. It is better to start checking with resistance, for which you need to remove the glove box, disconnect the connector and check the presence of power on it at different positions of the heater operating mode switch. The presence of power indicates a faulty resistance, the absence of power indicates a faulty switch. There, under the glove box, there is also an electric fan for the heating system.

Lada Kalina Cross Mr. Carrot › Logbook › Climate control or installation?

- So what do we have? - Not us, but you. - No, this time it’s us!

And we have climate control. Which at the plant, according to Russian tradition, was renamed into a “climate control unit”. Yes, the climate control is single-zone. Yes, it looks like a simple three ventilation control knobs. Yes, turning on auto mode is, in my opinion, stupid. But this is full-fledged climate control and even more complete than on the Primera. And this inclusion of auto mode was probably done for the sake of design. So as not to make a separate button.

In auto mode, the climate itself distributes the flow, turns the air conditioning on and off, controls the stove and, of course, controls the blowing speed. All this depends on the position of the temperature knob. In general, ordinary climate control, only without a display.

My brother had climate control on the Primera. And with a display. There was actually a huge display in the center to control anything and everything. The temperature was set in degrees Celsius. But the Primierovsky Climate air conditioner could not turn on or off on its own. Only by hand. You get into the Premiere, start it, and the climate in the cabin becomes a hurricane. You look, and the air conditioner is turned off. And the climate regularly tries to use 30-degree outside air to cool the interior to the set 24 degrees. You turn on the air conditioner, the temperature drops and the fan immediately calms down.

And the fact that I don’t know what temperature is set on Kalina doesn’t bother me at all. If I'm cold, I turn the temperature knob to the right. If it's hot, go left. And that’s all business.

Moreover, in auto and manual mode, the temperature knob sets different temperatures. If you turn off auto mode (for example, set the fan to first speed), then when the air conditioner is on, the air temperature from the ventilation will be lower than in auto mode. And when turned off, it is correspondingly higher than in the car.

Moreover, if in auto mode you turn the temperature knob to the right all the way, the air conditioner will turn off in any case. If it’s hot outside, the climate will let in outside air without heating.

Control unit for heating and ventilation system Lada Granta

The heating, air conditioning and ventilation system of the Lada Granta is a single complex that provides the most comfortable conditions inside the car, regardless of weather conditions and driving conditions.

control unit panel is installed on the instrument panel console.

Control unit for the heating and ventilation system of the interior of Lada Granta (VAZ 2190)

Heating and ventilation system control unit:

1 – air temperature regulator;

2 – fan operating mode switch;

3 – air flow distribution regulator;

4 – air recirculation control lever;

5 – rear window heating switch.

Outside air can enter the car interior through the central and side deflectors of the heating and ventilation system, into the area where the feet and head are located and onto the windshield.

The intensity of air supply into the cabin is regulated by turning the handle of the fan operating mode switch. This turns on one of four fan speeds. Turn the switch handle clockwise to increase the fan speed.

By turning the air temperature control knob, change the temperature of the air entering the cabin.

To increase the air temperature, turn the control knob to the left, to the red sector of the scale, and to decrease the air temperature, turn to the right, to the blue sector. With its help, you can determine where the stove gets air from - from the interior or outside. You need to take it from the interior when there is an unpleasant smell outside, or you need to warm up the car faster.

Recirculation system control lever

Lever for controlling the air recirculation system in the cabin of Lada Granta (VAZ 2190)

To turn on the recirculation mode, move the lever to the extreme right position. When the recirculation mode is turned on, outside air does not enter the cabin, and the air blower fan circulates air inside the cabin. This mode is used to quickly warm up the interior in the cold season, as well as when the surrounding air is dusty and gassy.

To allow outside air to enter the cabin, move the lever to the extreme left position.

The directions and intensity of air flows through the side and central deflectors of the ventilation and heating system are regulated by correspondingly rotating the guide vanes until they are completely open and rotating the deflector body.

Note:

It is not recommended to turn on the recirculation mode for a long time while the car is moving, as this usually leads to fogging of the windows.

Heated rear window switch

Placement of the rear window heating switch on the central panel of Lada Granta (VAZ 2190)

The heated rear window is turned on and off by pressing the button when the ignition is on. It is turned on by a button located below the handle.

Evgeny161 › Blog › Installing an air conditioner in a grant

Have a good day everyone!

I would like to share with you a post about installing the original Halla-visteon factory air conditioner (NOT AUGUST OR FROST) in GRANTA.

As it usually happens, either here on the drive, or on VKontakte in my group avtoklimat161, or in the advertisements on Avito, the owner of this grant found me...

The car is like a car and there is no air conditioner... Having told the owner about the options for installing new or used equipment, about the cost (new turnkey 50, used - 35), we agreed that we will install used equipment, especially since this year I have thoroughly stocked up on such equipment, because I think that new ones are sooooo expensive, but used ones, during pre-sale preparation, are no different in either quality or operational efficiency!

In my opinion, the Granta is best suited to be equipped with air conditioning. The installation process is not particularly complicated, a standard “locksmith” - unscrewed - removed - took another - installed - screwed.

But there are things with which there are problems with grants!

1. On cars without air conditioner there is NO belt tensioner mechanism! That is, you need to buy a Kalinovsky generator bracket with an adjusting screw and a roller.

2. The most important thing is that on grants, depending on the ECU model and firmware, you must use either a THREE-CONTACT coolant pressure sensor or a FOUR-PIN! And they are not interchangeable! Apparently, this is why FROST kits do not have a connection to the computer, so as not to worry about what firmware is there and what unit is there. And this is categorically NOT CORRECT! ! THE ECU SHOULD KNOW THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING IS ON. MOREover, IT IS THE ECU THAT TURNES ON THE MAIN FAN AND COMPRESSOR AND CORRECTS THE IDLE SPEED, AND ALSO TURN OFF THE COMPRESSOR WHEN SHARPLY PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL, THUS MAKING IT EASIER FOR THE ENGINE TO GET RPM SHARPLY - IT HELPS VERY WHEN OVERTAKING ESPECIALLY ON TRAIN.

Lada Granta Liftback Glacier (221) Luxury › Logbook › Question about the heater control unit.

Greetings to everyone who is interested in this topic, I surfed the Internet, but didn’t find anything intelligible. I want to replace the heater control unit grants

to SAUKU (automatic climate control system) from KALINA 2

Photos are not mine, taken from the Internet. I can’t find the pinouts for the connectors on the Kalina and Granta blocks in order to somehow connect the connection. Question - has anyone bothered with this replacement issue? and if anyone has the pinouts of the connectors, and if you don’t mind sharing, I will be very grateful.
