Meanwhile, the driver should have a good sense of the dimensions. This is necessary not only when changing lanes from one lane to another, but also when parking a car. The only way to develop your “sense of size” is to look in the rearview mirrors more often. Removing and installing a mirror on a VAZ 2107
Replacing a side mirror is not a complex, skilled job. The only tool required is a Phillips screwdriver. The order of operations is as follows:
- use your fingers to unscrew the locking washer, which is located at the base of the mirror adjustment lever;
- Unscrew the screw securing the decorative trim using a Phillips screwdriver;
- know the plastic decorative trim;
- remove the rubber gasket located under the lining;
- Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the bolt securing the rear-view mirror (at the same time, you should support the mirror so that it does not fall);
- remove the mirror.
To install the side rear view mirrors on a VAZ 2107 on a car, you must perform the operations in the reverse order.
Tuning
The mirrors on the VAZ 2107 are not very functional and have a good design, so the owners of the “Seven” often upgrade them or replace them with mirrors from other cars. This achieves several goals at once: the appearance of the car and the viewing angle in the mirrors are improved, the functionality of the side mirrors is increased (the ability to fold when parking, electric drive, heating). Below we will look at examples of upgrading rear-view mirrors with our own hands.
What kind of mirrors are installed on the VAZ 2106
As mentioned above, the standard exterior mirrors of the Six are not suitable for all car owners.
And there are several reasons for this:
- small size. Since the area of the mirror elements in standard mirrors is very small, the review also leaves much to be desired. In addition to the limited visibility, standard mirrors have blind spots, which also do not contribute to safe driving;
- lack of protective visors. Since the “six” is a rather old car, its exterior mirrors do not have “visors” that protect the surfaces of the mirror elements from rain and sticky snow. So in bad weather the driver is forced to periodically wipe the outside mirrors. It is clear that not everyone likes this;
- The mirrors are not heated. Because of this, the driver is again forced to manually clean the mirrors from ice;
- appearance. The standard mirrors on the “six” can hardly be called masterpieces of design art. It is not surprising that drivers want to get rid of them.

The name F1 was assigned to these mirrors for a reason. In appearance, they resemble the mirrors found on Formula 1 cars. The mirrors are distinguished by a massive rounded body and a long thin leg.

You can purchase them at any store that sells spare parts for car tuning. The owner of the “six” should not have any problems with attaching these mirrors. They are attached to the car using a standard plastic triangle. They are held on by three self-tapping screws. To install the F1 mirrors, you only need a Phillips screwdriver. F1 mirrors have both pros and cons:
- the undoubted advantage of F1 mirrors is their modern appearance;
- mirrors of this type are adjusted from the cockpit using a special lever. This point becomes especially important for the driver in bad weather;
- but the review of the F1 mirrors leaves much to be desired, since the area of the mirror element is small. As a result, the driver has to adjust the mirrors every now and then. This happens every time the driver moves the seat back slightly or changes the angle of the backrest.
Universal type mirrors
Currently, the spare parts market offers the widest range of universal rear-view mirrors for the VAZ 2106. They differ both in quality and in manufacturer. In addition, mounting methods can also differ significantly. When choosing a universal mirror, it makes sense for a novice driver to focus on a standard triangle mount. And only after that look at the appearance of the mirror and viewing angles. The fact is that to install universal mirrors with non-standard mounts, additional holes may be necessary. And drilling neat holes in the car body is not as simple a task as it might seem. There are two types of mounting universal mirrors:
- fastening using a standard triangle;
Universal mirrors with standard “triangles” are the most reliable - fastening directly to the mirror frame using special hinges.

It should be noted that fastening “behind the frame” has never been reliable. Over time, any fastener can weaken. As soon as this happens to the bolts in the hinges, the mirror will jump out of the housing and will almost certainly break. And this is another argument in favor of choosing fasteners in the form of a triangle.

Large mirrors from Niva
Some drivers prefer to take a radical approach to improving their mirror visibility. And they install vertical rear-view mirrors on their “six” (they are also called “burdocks”). Nowadays native “burdocks” for the “six” are not so easy to find on sale, although literally three years ago the shelves were littered with them. But drivers found a way out of the situation: they began installing large mirrors from the Niva (VAZ 2121) on the VAZ 2106. The visibility after installing such mirrors really improves. But, alas, it’s impossible to call such a solution beautiful: the Niva mirrors on the VAZ 2106 look too bulky.

Such “bugs” can be attached to the “six” using a standard triangle. Only in this case you will have to take two brackets from the VAZ 2106 and Niva mirrors and use them to make a new fastener for a large mirror.

Here we should also mention the new mirrors. As you know, the Niva car was updated relatively recently. This also affected the rear view mirrors. And if the car enthusiast has a choice, then it is better to install mirrors from the new Niva on the “six”.

Despite their small size, they have a good overview. There won’t be any big problems with fastening either: it’s still the same standard triangle, in which you’ll have to drill one extra hole.
Characteristics of VAZ 2106 mirrors
Side mirrors on the “six” are an element whose purpose is to provide good visibility and, therefore, traffic safety. But in addition to their main function, mirrors also perform an aesthetic one. It’s worth looking, for example, at the Hyundai Solaris and comparing it with the simple VAZ 2106. Of course, the difference is obvious here: body shape, lines, light optics, false grille, side mirrors.
It is the last detail that brings a sense of completeness and zest to the image, creating style. Hyundai has an attractive appearance, the mirrors are large and extraordinary, but what about the “six”? They are simple, small, cannot provide adequate visibility and do not affect the exterior in any way.
The right mirror is very limited in adjustment, which is bad, for this reason the driver can only see the side of the car, while a much larger viewing angle is required. The left one also cannot please us with its positive properties. This means you need to turn your attention to work such as tuning.
Interior mirrors VAZ 2106
The purpose of the interior mirror on the “six” is obvious: with its help, the driver can see those sections of the road that are not in the field of view of the exterior rear-view mirrors. First of all, this is the section of the road located directly behind the car. Interior mirrors on the VAZ 2106 may be different.
Standard salon mirror
The standard VAZ 2106 mirror is mounted on a leg, which is secured in the opening between the solar panels using two self-tapping screws. Like exterior mirrors, the standard interior mirror has a housing with a hole for a hinge. The body contains a mirror element.

The hinge allows the driver to change the angle of the mirror, adjusting the viewing area. In addition, there is a switch in the mirror housing that allows you to set the mirror in “night” and “day” modes. Despite all these points, the standard mirror has a rather narrow view. Therefore, drivers at the first opportunity change this mirror to something more acceptable.

Drivers often call panoramic interior mirrors “half lenses” because of their characteristic shape. One of the main conveniences associated with panoramic mirrors is their mounting method.

- The panoramic mirrors are equipped with protective coatings that can be either anti-reflective, darkening, or, on the contrary, brightening (the latter option is especially convenient for drivers who prefer to tint the rear window).
- but panoramic mirrors also have one significant drawback: they are not suitable for novice drivers. In a panoramic mirror, the distance to the nearest car behind always seems greater than it actually is. Experienced drivers remember this, but beginners often forget.

Mirrors with video recorders began to be installed on the “Six” about five years ago. Many car enthusiasts consider this option preferable to purchasing a full-fledged recorder.

Some drivers consider exterior rear-view mirrors to be superfluous and almost never use them.
This is due to the habit of making do with one in-salon device, usually developed by experienced “dummies”. In the past, many owners of Lada and Volga cars did not even install the left mirror supplied with the car (they would break it off anyway!), and on Muscovites it was not provided at all. For professionals who are accustomed to reversing a truck using the mirrors, on the contrary, inside the cabin is nothing more than fun. When buying their own Zhiguli, they installed two side mirrors with quick-release brackets. Trust the experience of these people - it’s more pleasant and safer to drive this way. And one more weighty argument: a pair of rear-view mirrors are invariably featured on Formula 1 cars, even if they worsen their aerodynamics - so for good reason. Having realized the benefits of these active safety features, we go to the auto parts and accessories store. Several options are possible. For example, you have a VAZ 2105 (2104, 2107) with one standard mirror on the left door and you want to purchase the same one, but on the right. Or a VAZ 2106 with an old-fashioned chrome-plated left one - which means you need a set of universal mirrors with fasteners. On modern cars (Samara, Moskvich, foreign cars) - a complete set: symmetrical standard mirrors on both sides. But for the sophisticated tuning enthusiast, the store will offer, say, tinted ones, or with electric heating, or, simply, larger in size than the “original” ones. However, there is also a demand for regular ones - they are often broken in accidents, or even broken off by irritated pedestrians hitting their briefcases, when the driver, blocking the sidewalk with his car, forces them to make their way along the wall, getting their clothes dirty.

Disadvantages: plastic base that does not fit tightly to the door with fastening using ordinary self-tapping screws, sloppy execution (the glass barely sticks to the frame), the cable drive of the mechanism is sensitive to dust and corrosion, long reach (120 mm) when folded. In addition, when installing the mirror you will have to tinker - the holes in the inner triangle must be drilled on site yourself.

Advantages: low price, durable aluminum base, clear, jam-free operation of the mechanism, neat and reliable sealing of glass in a movable frame, elastic rubber casing.
Disadvantage: large (120 mm) reach from the door glass when folded.
Right mirror for Zhiguli VAZ 2104, 2105, 2107, symmetrical to the standard left one (2105–8101050). Price 87 rub. Manufacturer unknown.
Advantages: inexpensive, compact (thickness when folded is 40 mm) and quickly replaceable - just unscrew one screw, remove the handle and pull the mirror out of the triangular door insert. The aluminum bracket is quite durable (there are unreliable plastic ones).
Disadvantages: small area, and therefore the viewing sector, as well as a movable body - passers-by, touching the mirror, disrupt the adjustment.
Mirror AJS (Poland) for VAZ 2104, 2105, 2107. Sold as a set (right and left) or separately for 288 rubles. per piece together with triangular door inserts. Thickness when folded (extension) - 90 mm.
Advantages: lightweight with a large surface area, fixed, easily folding body.
Disadvantage: high price.

Advantages: large field of view, excellent appearance, soft, jam-free adjustment, controlled by a short lever - it is unlikely to be touched by accident.
Disadvantages: massiveness, long arm of the bracket (thickness when folded is 96 mm) and the cable drive of the mechanism - it corrodes over time and begins to work stiffly and jerkily.
As for the bells and whistles, not everyone will approve of the golden coating, and undoubtedly convenient electric heating will be needed at most two or three times a year, when the wind blows wet flakes of snow from behind and a crust of ice forms on the mirrors.
