Android radio for Priora

Top 18 auto products for Lada Granta from AliExpress

Quite a long time ago I realized the use of many small and not very odd parts for my Lada Granta car, purchased in China.
Therefore, I collected 18, in my opinion, the most interesting and cheapest products for installation in a car. I saved a lot of money despite the fact that I installed everything myself, without resorting to the services of auto repair shops, fortunately there are a lot of installation instructions on YouTube. Also saved on CashBack. In general, now I do almost everything on the car myself, and the variety of cheap Chinese automotive electronics helps in implementing even the most unusual modifications. Now, for example, I’m planning to make a front-view camera for the Lada Granta, the rear one is apparently not enough) I bought almost all the products from the selection and sold them in my car, that’s why I recommend it. 1) Thresholds with illuminated logo - Buy

Suzuki Grand Vitara › Logbook › Tablet instead of car radio

I had a Nexus 7 2013 tablet with a broken sensor. And so I thought about what to do with it, and a thought came to my friend, what if I installed it in a car. I read a lot about installing a tablet in a car and finally decided to do the installation. There was a problem, the tablet needed repair. I took it to repair, where they eventually broke it, but they returned the money for it, although I wouldn’t have enough for a new one. After that, I lost the desire to install a tablet, because I wanted a Nexus 7, but there are no such things on sale, and you don’t often see them advertised.

Time has passed and I see in the ad they are selling a Nexus 7 model, although it’s older, but basically similar in parameters and the price is only 2500. I bought it, began to disassemble it to connect constant power instead of the built-in battery, and it so happened that I broke it, yes, my hands are not from there :). Although I read that it is very easy to break, I did not think it was so easy.

The reason for installing the tablet was a bad experience with a Chinese head unit. During installation, the main and most important requirement was the presence of a radio. I haven't flashed the tablet, it's running Android 6.0.1. From the tablet I brought out the power button and two wires to the power controller, which I connected to USB charging, and connected the charging to constant 12 volts. The tablet thinks it is fully charged. I also extended the OTG cord and glued it to the lower glove compartment. The GPS built into the tablet works great. From the radio I brought out the Aux cord to connect the phone.

Installing an Asus Nexus 7 tablet instead of a radio in a Lada Granta

The standard MMC radio did not suit me with its poor functionality, so I decided to sell it.

For the last 3 months everything looked like this, but there was a terribly lack of navigation and watching videos in good quality. The radio has already found a new owner...

I had been thinking for a long time about using a tablet as a head unit, and I decided to bring it to life. I bought the most optimal tablet, in my opinion.

Asus Nexus 7 (2013) 16Gb Wi-Fi

In the first option I thought of connecting the tablet via AUX to the radio...

It would have been very messy; the radio would have had to be hidden in the hidden cavity of the torpedo and something had to be figured out on how to control it.

If the tablet is directly connected via (Jack 3.5) to the amplifier, the volume is not enough, the signal is weak. After spending half a day on the Internet I came across a very interesting stray,

preamplifier BM2118

In the end, this is the diagram that emerged:

Why install a tablet in your car instead of a radio?

Not every car enthusiast is satisfied with the audio and video system in his car, and this feature is observed on many modern basic trim levels. The reasons may be different, for example, the functions or interface of standard equipment are not satisfactory. Therefore, the issue of installing a tablet instead of the standard radio is quite relevant. Regardless of the reasons, the goal is the same - buying a new multimedia device. It is worth noting that equipment with wide functionality is not cheap, and if you have a tablet on hand, only two questions remain, which come down to the time spent and the work itself. Financial investments may be required if the car audio system is built-in, then you will have to worry about buying an amplifier for the tablet. If the radio is removable, then it is used as a signal amplification device to which the tablet is connected. Installing a modern gadget will require some knowledge and skills in the field of electronics, but there should not be any particular difficulties.

A tablet instead of a radio is installed mainly in cases where the functionality of the standard system is not satisfactory

Advantages and disadvantages of a tablet instead of a radio

Before you begin implementing the device in question into your car, you need to understand that in this case, as with any technological upgrade, there are pros and cons. The advantages of introducing a tablet are as follows:

  1. Convenient playback of audio and video files.
  2. The ability to customize the device for yourself, for example, changing the interface, loading and sorting the media library.
  3. In addition to listening to music and watching videos, the tablet can be used as a navigator, for games, and Internet surfing.

The disadvantages include the following:

  • There may be problems during installation and fastening of the device.
  • Damage to internal components may occur, which will overall affect the performance of the system.
  • Inconveniences during replacement.

One of the advantages of installing a tablet instead of a radio is the ability to use it as a navigation device

Nuances of tablet installation

The tablet can only be mounted in a 2 DIN connector. In this case, you need a device with a screen diagonal of 7*10 inches and an aspect ratio of 16:9. This suggests that installation, for example, of an iPad, will not work due to the technical features of the gadget. In addition, you will need to think about purchasing an amplifier, because tablets are designed to work with headphones. The number of channels of the amplification device must correspond to the number of speakers in the car. It is best to purchase a tablet with a docking station, which will ensure ease of removal and installation, as well as charging the device.

Options for installing a tablet in Priora

There are several options for installing a tablet in Priora 2:

  • an option when the mobile device is installed and powered from its own built-in battery;
  • when the built-in battery is removed and power is supplied from the vehicle's on-board network.

In the first situation, installation occurs much faster than in the second case. However, a significant disadvantage is that the tablet battery, when exposed to sub-zero temperatures in winter, will quickly lose its capacity or even fail. In addition, there is a possibility that in the hot season, when the car interior heats up, the battery may ignite (remember the story with tablet computers and spontaneous combustion of Samsung batteries). As a result, the car can burn out completely.

The second option involves independently modifying the tablet and resoldering some contacts. The point is that the tablet is powered directly from the battery in the car, so it can be turned on and off at any time, regardless of whether the radio is active or not. This approach provides a number of advantages, but it is more complex in implementation than the first, above-mentioned approach.

Which option to use - decide for yourself, it all depends on the level of preparation and the desire to delve into the essence of the issue in detail.
