The most common malfunctions and their elimination
The Tomahawk 9010 system may experience errors that prevent it from being used normally.
The reasons that cause problems with this system include:
- broken battery;
- the vehicle is in a radio interference zone;
- lack of conditions for wave transmission;
- wear and tear of the security system itself;
- failure to synchronize the car with the remote control.
The video shows a brief overview of the 9010 model. Courtesy of the channel Alexey Viselovsky.
The battery has failed
This is the most common and easily fixable problem. Perhaps the battery is dead, which can be guessed in advance by the dimmed screen of the remote control. The reason may also be an incorrectly installed battery.
The manufacturer recommends using AAA alkaline batteries to replace the battery in the Tomahawk 9010 key fob.
To resolve the issue, the user needs to remove and reinstall the battery. If this does not solve the problem, then replace it with a new one.
Correct battery replacement in Tomahawk 9010:
- Open the key fob cover.
- Remove the old battery.
- Press the trunk release button.
- Insert a new battery.
- Close the key fob cover.
- Press the trunk release button.
Being in a radio interference zone
Being near cash collectors' vehicles or near airports and shopping centers may cause radio interference - a parameter that interferes with the normal operation of the Tomahawk system.
In this case, try a number of actions:
- bring the key fob as close as possible to the location of the security system sensor;
- press the Overr button >No conditions for wave transmission
During severe frosts, the voltage on the car battery may not be enough to start the car or unlock the doors. In this situation, only solving the problem with a faulty battery will help; it needs to be charged.
Damage to the key fob itself is also possible, which occurs due to frequent involuntary presses, in which case it will need to be repaired.
Wear and tear of the security system
Over time, the security system wears out - mechanical breakdowns of the transmitter receiving antenna appear, as well as wear and tear on the key fob or unit itself. Unfortunately, in this case, the problem can only be resolved by replacing or repairing the devices at a service center. It is not recommended to carry out such repair work yourself.
If you have a spare key fob, connect it to the system:
- Turn on the ignition without starting the engine.
- Press the combination of the “trunk open”, “silent security” and “overr” buttons >Irregularities in the synchronization of the remote control with the car
In a situation where the key fob has lost contact with the car and control of the alarm has become impossible, you will have to open the car with the key and use the emergency shutdown function.
Sequence of actions for emergency shutdown:
- Open the car with the key.
- Start the ignition.
- Press the Override button 4 times.
- Turn off the ignition.
These actions will be followed by two sound signals and double flashing of the car lights, indicating an emergency shutdown of the alarm. If this method does not help, then the system is faulty. It is necessary to contact a service center in order to repair the alarm or adjust the settings.
How to disable Tomahawk 9010 car alarm without key fob
The absence of a key fob or its inoperability prohibits access to the car. You can manually turn off the Tomahawk 9010 alarm without a key fob. In this case, the system will be deactivated in emergency mode. There are several ways to do this. One of them - emergency, consists of performing a small number of sequential steps and actions clearly specified in the instructions.
If an emergency shutdown and reboot of the device did not help, then the solution to this problem will need to be sought in completely de-energizing the system. This is the most extreme option, and careless and inconsistent intervention in the car alarm electrical network can provoke a problem in further operation. Therefore, contact a professional or strictly follow the instruction manual.
How to turn off a car alarm with your own hands is described in a video from user Yakov Toporkov.
Disabling the Tomahawk 9010, 9020, 9030 alarm in emergency mode has some differences.
Procedure for disconnecting:
- Get into the car and close all doors.
- Turn on the ignition, but do not start the car engine.
- Press the Override button 4 times. This will reboot the alarm system.
- Turn off the ignition. The car security system will flash the headlights twice and the siren will sound twice, which will confirm the successful operation.
Emergency disarming of this system occurs in a similar way to the previous version, but with a slight change:
- Open the door and turn on the ignition.
- Click Override three times.
- Turn off the ignition. The siren will emit 2 beeps and the side lights will flash 2 times.
- The security mode will be disabled immediately.
In case of emergency shutdown of the alarm system in this system, you need to:
- Open the door and turn on the ignition without starting the car engine.
- Press the Override service button three times.
- Turn off the ignition, the car security system will emit light and noise signals within 20 seconds. The siren will be activated twice and the side lights will come on twice, confirming the success of the operation.
How to DISARM the Tomahawk alarm with the Valet button is described in the video of the AVTOservis Nikitin channel.
If a special PIN code is programmed for emergency disabling of the alarm, then disarming will be carried out exactly in accordance with the code.
This password allows the owner of the car to emergency disarm it, as well as disable the car locking system when the Anti-Hijack option is activated at the second and third level of protection.
In order to turn off the alarm using a code, you must strictly follow the instructions and perform the following actions:
Please note that if you enter your PIN incorrectly at any stage, you will have to re-enter it.
If none of the methods helped reboot the Tomahawk alarm and did not solve the shutdown problem, then you will have to turn to an extreme method - de-energizing the system.
The method may work in older versions of the car security system. New system and technical solutions do not allow entry into the machine when the system is de-energized. In addition, car alarms are mounted without access to their electrical circuits from the outside.
The manual does not provide clearly defined steps for de-energizing the alarm system. Some users try to find the relay and fuse that powers the electrical system and turn them off. But this operation is best carried out by a specialist or service center.
Video “Emergency alarm shutdown”
The video from Yakov Toporkov tells how to turn off the alarm if the key fob is faulty.
Security systems are equipped with a central unit with the ability to change operating parameters. Resetting the Tomahawk 9010 to factory settings allows you to eliminate errors made during programming. Then the driver or equipment adjuster makes changes to the settings, ensuring correct operation of the alarm.
When a reboot or factory reset is necessary
Returning the operating parameters of the Tomahawk 9010 alarm system to factory settings is performed in the following situations:
- Loss of communication between the control panel transmitter and the security system receiver. The defect occurs when exposed to electromagnetic or radio frequency radiation (for example, from transformer substations, power lines or cellular base stations). If the complex does not respond to a remote control placed close to the receiver, then you should disable the protection using the emergency method, and then reset the settings and re-program the central unit and remote controls.
- Destruction of the sensitive element of the shock sensor, leading to replacement of the product. The new sensor has different parameters; to ensure correct communication, it is recommended to delete the old settings of the complex.
- Malfunction of the electronic components of the unit due to a short circuit. For example, when moisture gets into the siren's power circuit, the load on the processor unit increases, which leads to blocking of the unit.
- Damage to switching harnesses, leading to damage to conductive elements or failure of fuses. After repairing the cables and eliminating the causes of damage to the insulating layer, the central unit is reset (to remove possible errors and inconsistencies).
- Problems with automatic engine start (does not start on the first try or stops the engine before the programmed time). The defect occurs due to an error in the power plant operation control circuit; changing the mode manually does not correct the situation. After resetting the parameters and setting the required parameter, problems with starting the motor disappear.
When should you turn off the alarm?
If you cannot get into the car (Tomahawk 9030 does not respond to commands given by the remote control, the engine does not start), then you should turn off the alarm in emergency mode. This occurs due to a breakdown of the key fob or in the event of a malfunction of the control unit of the security complex. The main reasons that caused a failure in the anti-theft system:
- radio interference interfering with communication between the switch and the alarm control unit. Often occurs in large cities, with tall buildings, large concentrations of mobile phones and other electronics;
- failure of the system control unit due to mechanical shock, short circuit on the board, or water entering the electronic circuit.
Interference in the area. The problem often occurs in large cities due to signal blocking by nearby multi-story buildings. Commands from the key fob will be executed only once or the control unit will stop responding to them altogether.
Poor functioning of the locking system. Associated with mechanical shock, low battery charge, short circuit or exposure to moisture on the electrical circuit of the security system control unit.
Key fob broken. To program some functions or to disarm the system, you press the remote control keys several times. The reason is a mechanical or software failure of the switch. It is also possible that the battery will run out.
How to reboot
The owner cannot reboot the Tomahawk alarm because the equipment does not support such an algorithm. When the power supply is turned off, the central unit saves the settings in non-volatile memory; when power is restored, the complex returns to its original state. Tomahawk security equipment is not equipped with ports for connecting to a computer; it is impossible to reboot or replace the factory firmware of the central unit at home.
It is allowed to open a car equipped with the 9010 complex using the emergency method using the factory key. After turning on the alarm, the owner gets behind the wheel and activates the ignition support. Then the programming button is pressed 4 times, after which the key is removed from the lock. If the alarm stops and the car gives a double signal with a siren and lamps, then you need to start the engine and move to another parking area. Then the owner tries to turn the protection on and off again using the remote control.
How to turn off without a key fob
If the alarm was able to block the doors, but the remote control does not work, there are three options to disable it:
The key must be installed hidden during installation, therefore, if the alarm was not installed independently, it may be difficult to find it. Typically this control is located under the instrument panel and may be hidden in one of the wiring harnesses. This part looks like a key in a cylindrical body.
Possible locations of the service button
For alarm 9010, emergency deactivation is performed as follows:
- The vehicle door is opened with a key. The alarm mode will be activated, the siren and external lighting devices will start working.
- The key is inserted into the lock and the ignition is activated. The motor does not start.
- The emergency service mode entry button is pressed four times.
- The ignition in the car turns off. External lights will work twice. When the security mode is turned off, the siren will sound twice.
For the Tomahawk 9020 model, emergency unlocking is performed as follows:
- When the security mode is on, the driver's door is opened with the key. The alarm is activated, the siren and external lighting devices will start working.
- The key is inserted into the lock and the ignition system is activated. The car's power unit does not start.
- Press the key to enter the service mode three times.
- The ignition is turned off. The siren will sound twice and the vehicle's side lights will turn on. The security mode should turn off immediately.
Emergency shutdown of alarms 9030, 7010 and X5 is carried out in this order:
If you have configured a personal password to disable it, then manipulations with the service button will be performed in a different algorithm.
Disabling is done as follows:
To reset your password and assign a new code, perform the following steps:
- The ignition in the car turns off.
- The button to enter the service mode is pressed four times.
- The ignition is activated. The siren should sound 4 times.
- The service mode button is pressed once. The alarm should enter the new password programming menu.
- The communicator controls are used to assign a code. A button with a closed lock assigns a password value of 1, with an open one - 2, with a trunk - 3, with a crossed out horn - 4. The manufacturer has provided the ability to use only characters in the range from 1 to 4 to assign a code.
- The button to enter the service mode is pressed once. This will enter the programming menu for the second digit of the password.
- Using the communicator, the second character of the code is entered in the same way.
Using the method of de-energizing the alarm is relevant on older versions of anti-theft systems. In new models, if the power is turned off, the alarm will still not allow entry into the vehicle interior. Moreover, to gain access to the engine compartment, where the battery is located, or other electrical circuits of the system, you need to get inside the car.
The service manuals for alarm management do not contain advice on de-energizing security systems, so it is not recommended to deal with this issue yourself.
How to reset alarm settings
When performing manipulations with the security system, a hidden button is used, indicated in the Override documentation. The key is equipped with a standard wiring harness of limited length, located in the inside of the instrument panel or under the central tunnel casing. The guideline for finding a device is a patch cord equipped with a 2-pin plug. The car owner traces the direction of laying the harness; it is permissible to find out the location of the key installation in the service center that carried out the installation.
Self-reset of the Tomahawk 9010 is performed with the protection function disabled and the ignition system of the working mixture in the cylinders actively supported (irrespective of the engine type). After turning the key in the lock, the owner finds a menu entry button hidden in the cabin. After 10 consecutive impacts, it is necessary to turn off the power supply to the alarm processor unit (by setting the key to the “off” position).
Wait for confirmation of the correctness of the procedure in the form of 10 short signals from a siren or horn (depending on installation).
To reset the operating parameters, you will need to briefly press the setup start button, the siren will sound a short beep. Then the driver presses a key on the remote control, marked with an icon depicting a lock with a closed shackle. Then you need to apply power (by turning the key in the lock to the “on” position), a 5-fold flash will be given by external lighting devices. Factory documentation for the Tomahawk 9010 does not recommend pausing for more than 5 seconds during the implementation of the algorithm.
A similar algorithm for resetting settings is used for Tomahawk 9030 or 9020 systems, built on a single processor base. In the X3 or X5 complexes, a 2-stage reset system is implemented, which allows you to separately reset the parameters of the security functions and the automatic start mode. To start the procedure, 9 and 10 key presses are performed; at the end of the algorithm, 5 or 6 signals are sent from external lighting equipment. The remaining actions do not differ from the algorithm for deleting settings in the alarm system of the 9xxx model range.
In the later modification of Tomahawk 9.9, the manufacturer returned to the algorithm used on the 9010 model. The procedure included an additional confirmation of the reset by the remote control buzzer, after pressing the button with the lock symbol, a short signal is given, and after the ignition support is turned off, a melody is played. The owner of the car can control the process by the number of flashes of the control diode mounted on the instrument panel. Each press of a button (on the remote control or a hidden key) causes a short LED flash.
When the settings are returned to their original state, the operating parameters of the additional channels are deleted. To ensure the operation of external devices and automatic starting, it is necessary to program parameters (duration of starter operation, pause for warming up the glow plugs). If the car owner does not have the knowledge and experience, it is recommended to contact a service center.
Due to malfunctions in the security system, there is a need to reprogram it, reset the Tomahawk 9010 to factory settings. Carefully read the instruction manual and begin performing a few simple steps.
Features of setting up Tomahawk alarms
To configure the Tomahawk 9010, it is usually enough to press a combination of buttons on the key fob, or one of them. Here it is important to follow the instructions issued by the manufacturer. In order for the system to work correctly, it is necessary to adjust the sensors that are responsible for the timely response to outside interference.
Sometimes alarms do not go off because the sensors are not installed at the proper level of quality. This also occurs due to decreased sensitivity. The work associated with increasing sensitivity consists of several stages.
- First, they find a sensor already installed in the cabin. Most often it is located under the front panel.
- The alarm must be disarmed. Only after this is access to programming available.
- The sensitivity scale has only a few levels, from 0 to 10. When only the factory settings are set, the indicator is at the fourth or fifth level.
- The degree of perception by the sensor should be increased, but not immediately. It is necessary to check how and at what levels the sensors operate.
As for the process of resetting the alarm software itself, it is performed as follows. The ignition must be turned off. Then press the button labeled Override nine times. The next step is to turn on the ignition. And press the same button again, but only once.
The next button we need is the one with the lock on it. Finally, the ignition turns off completely. The parking lights will flash five times if done correctly.
It is possible to reset the settings to the original parameters associated with the remote start function. The same procedures are followed for this. But the Override button is pressed not nine, but ten times. The parking lights flash six times. This means the reset is complete.
Why is this done?
The Tomahawk alarm system is characterized as a reliable anti-theft system. But sometimes it can malfunction due to a short circuit or open circuit. Tomahawk independently exits the security mode and puts it on it. The siren turns on spontaneously and the autostart time changes. If such problems occur, you need to reset the main parameters and return to standard settings. This is an extreme step in solving problems with the alarm system, because you will need to re-program all the functions of the security system.
How to reset Tomahawk TW 9010 alarm settings
You can go to factory settings like this.
- Turn on the ignition system.
- Press the service key ten times.
- Turn off the ignition. The siren will sound 10 times.
- On the remote control, press the button with the image of a key.
- Turn on the ignition. The lights will blink five times.
After completing all the steps, you need to reprogram the Tomahawk 9010 functions:
- autostart by time;
- by temperature;
- turning on the turbo timer;
- window closing time;
- automatic door closing, etc.
Emergency shutdown of the alarm using the Valet or Override button
In this family, the security capabilities are more primitive: the length of the PIN code is fixed in two digits, with each digit taking a value from 1 to 4 (16 PIN code options).
The disarming procedure itself, both with and without a PIN code, is performed similarly to the Tomahawk G-9000. The only difference is the process of installing the code itself. First, PIN code protection is activated:
- Disarm the car, click on Override 5 times.
- Turn on the ignition.
- Press Override 15 times.
- Press any button on the key fob except button 1 (“arming”).
- Turn off the ignition.
After this, the PIN CODE indicator will light up on the key fob screen, confirming that the system is requesting a secret code during an emergency shutdown. The pin code itself is entered in this way: press Override 4 times with the ignition off.
- turn on the ignition;
- Click on Override once;
- enter the first digit of the code (button 1 corresponds to number 1, button 2 to 2, and so on);
- click on Override again;
- enter the second digit in the same way as the first;
- turn off the ignition to save the code.
Not only the Z family alarms work in a similar way, but also the Tomahawk 9.7 CAN, while in that series the primitive shutdown described for the Tomahawk 10.1 was traditional. The TZ, TW, X and CL families of alarms use a two-digit pin code from 11 to 44.
Thanks to these actions, the parking lights in the car will light up twice. In this case, the siren will produce two sound signals. This will confirm the process of disabling the car alarm. If you are unable to turn off the device using this method, it means that the device is not working.
The secret PIN code consists of two digits (factory value 11). Complete the following steps.
- Open the driver's door with the key. The siren will scream, the lighting equipment will start blinking.
- Turn on the ignition.
- Enter the first value of the PIN code by pressing the service key (the number of presses corresponds to the first value of the secret password).
- Deactivate and activate the ignition.
- Enter the second number of the PIN code using the method described above.
- Turn off the ignition system.
- A siren will sound and external lighting devices will flash.
The Tomahawk 9010 security system is turned off like this.
- Open the driver's door with the key. The alarm mode is activated (the siren will scream, the external lighting will blink).
- Activate the ignition, do not start the engine.
- Press the Jack key four times.
- Deactivate the ignition. The lights will blink twice. The alarm will emit two beeps.
How to remove unnecessary key fobs?
In order to remove unnecessary remote controls, reset the Tomahawk 9010 to factory settings and write yours in its memory.
- Activate the ignition system.
- Hold the service key until the alarm sounds four times. You have entered programming mode.
- Release Override.
- On the remote control, simultaneously press and hold: “Trunk opener” and “Silent security mode”.
- Sirens will sound. Their number is the number of the remote device being recorded.
- To exit the settings, do nothing for six seconds.
Setting the clock, alarm and timer
When buying a used car with an installed alarm system, many car enthusiasts have to resort to resetting its parameters to factory settings. Old adjustments can cause malfunctions and glitches. Reset the Tomahawk SL 950, X3, Z3, D 900, 434 mhz frequency alarm settings using the instructions.
- Turn off the ignition.
- Press the Override key ten times.
- Turn on the ignition.
- Click "Override".
- After the siren sounds, press the “Lock” button.
- Turn off the ignition.
- All settings are returned to factory settings.
To set the clock, alarm clock or timer, use button No. 3 (functions).
Setting the clock, alarm and timer
