In terms of prices, everything is quite ambiguous. A Bosch model for the VAZ 2114-13-15 series of cars costs about 3,000 rubles. Unfortunately, AvtoVAZ designers did not provide our cars with high-quality headlights, but rather, on the contrary, worsened them. Even the predecessor 9 had much better headlights than the 2114. Therefore, the issue of choosing headlights is acute for every SAMARA-2 owner.

The auto parts market offers us headlights from Bosch and Kirzhach. True, there are also Hella optics on sale, but this is a different story and a different price category, so in this article we will consider and compare only Bosch and Kirzhach.

Installation procedure for fog lights

  1. Remove the bumper (this will make further work easier).
  2. Check the functionality of the fog lights by dialing or connecting them to the car battery.
  3. Using a drill, drill holes to which the VAZ 2107 fog lights will be attached. The distance between the center of the fog light to the opening for the license plate in the bumper should be about 15 cm. In this case, the headlights will be spaced far enough apart and will not be interfered with by body parts.
  4. Lay the electrical wiring wires from the fog lights to the installation location of the electromagnetic control relay. The line of wires runs under the mudguard near the battery, through the pipe and the “fang” of the bumper to the mounting location of the right fog light. This arrangement is optimal when the control relay is located on the right under the hood. In other cases, other wire paths may be used.
  5. Drill holes along the path of the wiring harness connecting the left and right fog lights.
  6. Secure the wiring harness using copper wire or special plastic clamps.
  7. Mount the fog lamp mounts on the bumper.
  8. Install the bumper on the car.
  9. Disassemble the fog lights, secure the rear part to the mount and insert the power wires into it.
  10. Strip the ends of the wires and secure the connectors to them using the crimp method.
  11. Assemble the fog lights in the prescribed manner.

I’m not sure that my “speech” will be appreciated as sensible, but still allow me: let’s not confuse simple PTF with a head light that “hits” forward. PTF are local lighting headlights. They shine less than the low beam, so when paired with the low beam, you get a large illuminated spot. As for me, it’s better to invest money in headlights, but PTFs - and even tractor ones - their purpose is the same. And you must admit that even the Chinese lights are not so bad. So why bother with the choice? I am infinitely satisfied with the usual factory PTFs. They cope with their purpose (to identify the car in front of oncoming traffic in foggy conditions - don’t forget their name: anti-FOG). Not enough lighting? - Well, turn on the neighbor. I think bringing the PTF glow to low beam is a waste of money, especially since there are special headlights specifically for forward illumination. And when I washed the PTF (once every 4 years), they began to shine with super-light. In short, if I were the author, from the two options he proposed, I would choose the one that is more beautiful, because they cope with their direct task perfectly and there is no need to expect the effect of a locomotive spotlight from them.

Possible installation problems

The headlights on the VAZ 2114 Bosch still have certain technical differences both from the original components and from the Kirzhach. For example, due to the fact that the light module is somewhat shorter, the cover that covers the glass may interfere with the uniform dispersion of light. Therefore, it is better to fasten the headlight to the car body with bolts so that the reflector is also screwed inside the headlight. To screw the headlight evenly, you need to gradually tighten both bolts, distributing the efforts. If you place it unevenly, then the headlight may begin to shine not directly and downward, but in an unknown direction, and it will be of no use on the road.

Also, during installation, you should always align the edges of each case to avoid burrs. If you make the edges smooth, then they will not interfere with the passage of light, and one millimeter of metal will not affect the reliability of installation. And if you are not satisfied with the width of the light beam that covers the road, then you can try to find another reflector
