The energy-hungry chassis absorbs most of the potholes. The manufacturer emphasizes the “Cross” status by fine-tuning the car’s design.
Just by looking at the XRAY you immediately understand what kind of car is in front of you. The balance is felt from the first minutes after entering the cabin, but this result had to be realized, because otherwise there is no point in releasing another urban crossover.
Slight roughness is the description given to the crossover by the manufacturer. It's hard to disagree with this statement. There are not a lot of smooth lines or clear edges.
The exterior is a collection of different design styles. Wide arches with not very massive wheels emphasize the main advantage - increased ground clearance.
Lada Xray: review from Kalina owner
Experience in operating cars: my father’s IZH-412, still with an iron torpedo, and he already has his own car, Kalina, for more than 5 years.
I took Kalina to the next maintenance and decided at the same time to see what the dealer had.
I looked closely at the news and took the robot for a test drive. There was also a minimally equipped hrey in the cabin, I sat in it and almost had an attack of claustrophobia, all the surfaces were vertical, black, the glazing line was high, as if I had climbed into a closet. The tidy, compared to the West one, also seemed frivolous. But at the same time, the quality of the plastic in the cabin is good, reminiscent of a SLR camera, and overall the car makes a good impression.
After a couple of months I decided to update my car.
I was waiting for the release of Chevy Niva 2, but it didn’t happen.
I was waiting for the West station wagon 1.8 by the fall, but that didn’t happen either.
I took a ride on the rapid, the machine was ok. But in an acceptable configuration it cost more, and that’s with 90 hp. engine,
besides, the dealer could not clearly say about the delivery time, and in stock there were either maximum saucepans with a machine gun, or completely empty ones, there weren’t even provisions for pots (and you look on the street, people actually take these pans).
I haven’t looked at a used one, I can’t drag it from an auction, and I have no desire to deal with hucksters.
I also happened to take a ride in a new Logan taxi, which I liked more than the Ford Focus in the same taxi, and the platform, as you know, is one with a yardarm.
In general, the choice finally fell on the yard. I also rode it. At maximum speed, the interior was no longer dull, plus the plant threatened to release the 1.8 version with fur.
I looked and read reviews and comments, they were drug-fuelled - like “Porskaen is better”, “why is it more expensive than 300 thousand”, but mostly positive.
I was aiming for the maximum, but such cars were not expected in the next 1-2 months, and since I was going to buy with a trade-in + credit, I wanted to close the deal before the end of the year. I also wanted a beige interior, but they only had those since 1.6.
The suite was supposed to arrive in 1-2 weeks. I came, looked, liked everything, made an advance payment. A few days later I went to register. It cost about 700 with a trade discount.
According to the configuration:

I didn’t pick it up right away, because... Firstly, I drove it to install the signaling system, and secondly, the winter tires have not yet arrived.
I signed up for registration through government services faster and without a queue.
I went to pick it up.

You're driving high.
On the way from the salon, I saw everyone in the traffic somehow driving slowly, even the Markovnik trudged along sadly - I thought there was some kind of accident ahead, looked at the speedometer and realized what was what)).
Driving around the city in 3rd gear it goes from 40 to 70, you don’t need to quickly tuck in 2nd or twist until it rings before 4th. I got used to the gearshift lever instantly, the moves are short but clear - I never missed a beat in speed.
The handle is comfortable, allowing both a regular grip from above and a “joystick” grip. The clutch grips smoothly, almost like an automatic machine. If you don’t specifically set yourself such a goal, then moving off with a jerk or slipping will not work. The gap itself during which the clutch engages is long, you let go, it seems that everything is off, you drop the pedal, and it still makes a jerk, i.e. Before this, it was not completely released. When starting uphill, the anti-rollback is activated and holds the brake in both forward and reverse gears.
I tried handsfree, it attaches easily, shows contacts and calls on the radio (NOT multimedia).
I installed an alarm with auto start, it shows the temperature in the cabin and the engine.
The engine cools down slowly; on Kalina, after an hour of parking, it showed the street temperature. I don’t know what this is due to, better thermal insulation or a different location for installing the sensor. The lack of a temperature indicator on the dashboard is annoying!
The electrics are well made; when the starter is turned on, other consumers are turned off - music, stove.

The antenna on the roof does not fold, when entering the garage it got caught, crunched so that I thought I was left without a roof, but everything seems to be intact)).

Today we were able to test the defrosting system of the lobovukha (in particular, because of this option, the luxe package was chosen).
In the morning it froze and the glass was covered with a thin layer of ice.
After turning on the defrost, the center of the glass began to move away within a minute.
But! I still had to brush off the melted ice, because... even after 10 minutes. The wipers have remained frozen in their places since yesterday (I forgot to lift them). But I didn’t have to scrape - that’s a plus.
Heated parking area for wipers must have.
At temperatures above -10, the glass completely thaws in 20-30 seconds.
The rear window is exemplary, and the wiper quickly thawed the glass as well.

It's going great! At 5th 100 km/h. just above 2500 rpm.
It's easy to change lanes and overtake.
Everywhere they write that it rolls a lot in turns. I don’t feel anything like that, it’s like it’s on rails. Kalina was tilting, yes, it was scary to enter a sharp turn faster than 30-40.

I put the stock tires back on.
Tough, noisy, goaty on hillocks.
This is after winter Goodyear UltraGrip Ice 2 195/65 R15.
Well, the steering wheel is a little heavier after the narrow tires.
At first I was pleased with the system for adjusting the backrest angle; on Kalina, in order to lie down you need to turn the dial for a long time and persistently; here you just need to pull the handle, but the reclined backrest and seat cushion form a step and you still can’t get comfortable. The back of the front seat backrest is dermantine, which is good because... Children get it dirty with their feet all the time.
The road is not tiring, from Kalina after 150-200 km. literally leaking out. Physical and acoustic discomfort also affects.
- Trunk:
It’s not small for everyday life, and yes, the sofa won’t fit, but I don’t drive sofas that often, and it’s easier to hire a gazelle for such a case. But you don’t have to fish out packages from the store in a huge hold)) For daily use, this is more important.
The purpose of the solid and rigid rear shelf is unclear. Those. It’s tough enough to put something on it, but if you put small things like a magazine, for example, when you open the trunk, the shelf will rise and everything will roll into the gap between the shelf and the back seat. In Kalina, the shelf was bent in half and this problem did not exist. Or then it was necessary to make a curtain, like in large station wagons.
I was pleased with the electric trunk lock - convenient. On Kalina I often threw bags into the cabin, because... I was too lazy to open the trunk with the key, I always put everything in the trunk. The trunk and glove compartment lighting also works when the ignition is off, which is also a plus.

I can’t really say about consumption, I use it mainly in the city, in winter the alarm is automatically heated by temperature.
- The run-in track in winter is about 7 liters, I haven’t driven it in summer yet.
- Now in the city it’s around 10 liters.

After the “Chinese”, Kalina gives the impression of a finished product. And it looks bright - thanks to the orange color and the “cross” plastic body kit. The interior has also been refreshed with orange touches. The seat is softly padded and has a short cushion, but it distributes the load like a human being and allows you to ride for a long time without getting tired. Seat height adjustment is not provided here either, but it is not particularly necessary. You won't accidentally hit the buttons on the steering wheel - they aren't there. The rim of the steering wheel is a bit thin, but it fits comfortably in your hands, and that’s the main thing. What a review! Huge windows, impressive mirrors and a high seating position allow you to effortlessly control the situation around the car and not fork out for parking sensors.
Other technical information
The crossover itself sits on R17 wheels. Their full definition looks like this: 215/50 R17 (91,H). They look appropriate in the body arches due to the wide dark plastic in the edging. There is no need to replace them with a larger diameter to achieve a better design.

An increase from 195 mm to 215 mm is the only correct solution for the domestic manufacturer in the new line called “LADA XRAY Cross”. This same 20 mm was not enough for many motorists when exiting asphalt onto rough terrain.
Speed bumps, potholes, curbs, ramps and hill drives are just a small part of the freely surmountable obstacles in the updated Lada X-Ray. Definitely suitable for living outside the city or, if necessary, frequently traveling between regions. For residential or commercial use, the Cross model will meet all off-road requirements.

LADA Kalina Cross 2020 – 2016
Recently, the LADA Kalina Cross was presented to the public. And many were probably disappointed. After all, calling the presented car a crossover can only be a stretch. Rather, it is a hatchback raised above the roadway. There are no plans for all-wheel drive; it’s also difficult to say what kind of engine and gearbox there will be, but you can hardly count on anything special.
