Lada Granta cars are equipped with a four-speed automatic (AY-K3). The characteristics of the new car are as close as possible to international standards. The Lada Granta gearbox is equipped with a reliable hydraulic unit.

The manufacturer provides for checking the fluid level for the automatic transmission every 15,000 km, and fluid replacement is not regulated. And yet, for preventive purposes, the working fluid should be replaced every 60,000 km. In addition, the need to replace the working fluid may arise when it is contaminated or a burnt smell appears. WARNING

The manufacturer recommends the use of Genuine EJ-1ATF working fluid from the manufacturer JX Nippon Oil and Energy Corporation. The use of other oils or liquids may lead to malfunctions or gearbox failure.

The working fluid level indicator (dipstick) is located in the front part of the engine compartment under the air filter (for clarity, the air filter has been removed in the figure). The level of working fluid in the gearbox is checked with the mechanism warmed up after movement.

NOTE

The hole plug for draining the working fluid is sealed with a copper washer. An overcompressed washer should be replaced.

Start the engine, let it idle for about 5 minutes, then check the level again (see the subparagraphs on checking the level and adding working fluid to the automatic transmission), as well as the quality of the fluid. The design of the Kalina-2 family of cars uses a cable gearbox, produced by AvtoVAZ since 2013. A feature of the manual transmission, designated as VAZ-2181, is the following: a diagnostic probe is not provided in its design. The inspection and diagnostic hole is located on the side and not on the top side of the crankcase, which will not add convenience when changing the oil. How to perform this operation, that is, how to replace the manual transmission fluid, is discussed further.

The engine air filter should not interfere

The air filter box in Granta and Kalina-2 cars is secured with three rubber stops. It will not be difficult to dismantle them, but first you will need to disconnect all the connectors attached to the box from the outside. You will also need to remove the adsorber valve.

And only then, without fear of damaging anything, the plastic box is taken to the side.

The cylinder to which the corrugation is attached is the mass air flow sensor module. This module has one connector. Disconnect it, and it is better to leave the clamp holding the corrugation in its original form.

The steps mentioned above are listed here in order:

  1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery;
  2. Disconnect the clip “1” that holds the power wire and disconnect the connector “2” of the mass air flow sensor (Fig. 1);
  3. Dismantle the canister purge valve.
    Disconnect the connector with the wires, then use a flat screwdriver to press the spring on the side and remove the module itself from the grooves (Fig. 2);
  4. All stops holding the box can be easily removed from the slots (Fig. 3).

The connector that needs to be disconnected in “step 2” will not be available in configurations with motor 21127.

Changing transmission oil

The procedure for changing gearbox oil will look standard:

  1. First, the control plug is not completely unscrewed;
  2. Unscrew the drain plug, placing a free container under it;
  3. The used oil is drained and the plug is tightened;
  4. After unscrewing the filler plug, replace the oil, then install all the parts in place.

According to reviews, the VAZ-2181 box holds 2300 ml of transmission fluid. C, and the recommended replacement interval is 75,000 km.

Advice: before replacing, it is recommended to warm up the old oil. It will be enough to drive the car for about 2-3 km, trying to vary the engine speed.

You can gain access to the internal volume of the gearbox in another way, which is not discussed here. Together with engines 21126 and 21127, a speed sensor is used, mounted on the top of the box casing. It will be easy to dismantle this unit, but after reinstallation the tightness is broken.

The oil level in the gearbox is controlled as follows: the standard filler plug must be unscrewed, and as soon as the liquid begins to leak out onto the casing, topping up is stopped. It is advisable that the car be installed on a level surface. And it’s even better if the body is tilted to the right - excess transmission fluid has never hurt anyone.

Step-by-step instructions for changing the oil

Replacing transmission fluid, regardless of its type, begins with preparatory work. To do this, the Lada Kalina 2 car is placed on a flat horizontal surface.   5. The optimal lubricant level should reach the bottom edge of the inspection or filler hole.
  6. After reaching the required level, the hole is closed with a plug.

Automatic transmission oil change

  1. First you need to remove the protective cover or boot.
  2. Then unscrew the drain plug with a 19 key. It is located on the pallet.
  3. We substitute a reservoir for waste liquid.
  4. There is an overflow plug under the drain plug - remove it and drain the oil.
  5. For a better replacement, you can remove the pan and clean it from the inside. To do this, unscrew the bolts with a 10mm wrench and carefully remove the part. We clean the tray and the magnets located on it.
  6. We install the pallet in place.
  7. The new lubricant must be poured through the dipstick hole. The dipstick plug is located near the engine block, under the bellows of the air filter. If access to the filler hole and dipstick is difficult, you can remove the corrugation along with the air filter cover. To remove the corrugation, you need to unscrew the 4 bolts securing the filter cover, remove the air flow sensor and the air pipe. The pipe and corrugation are secured with clamps.

  8. We take out the dipstick plug and, using a hose with a funnel, pour in the same amount of new oil as was drained.
  9. To distribute the lubricant in the gearbox, you need to start the engine and shift the gearbox selector through all gears. The selector must be held in each position for several seconds.
  10. Check the level of the filled working fluid. We lower the dipstick plug with the wiped tip into the filler hole and remove it. The oil level should be between o and “MAX”.
  11. Having brought the lubricant level to the optimal level, close the dipstick plug and install the air filter bellows (if it has been removed).

4. Screw the plug away from the filler hole.

8. Clean the drain plug from metal particles and dirt, then tighten it.

9. Fill the gearbox housing with new oil. This process is similar to the operations for checking the level and for adding oil, which are described above.

10. Wipe the filler plug and then screw it back on.

Then, using a 17mm wrench, unscrew the drain plug. It is very easy to find - it is located at the bottom of the edge of the checkpoint. There is a separate hatch for it in the protection. Then we substitute an empty container and wait until all the oil is drained from the gearbox. But even with a heated box, you have to wait a very long time - at least 20 minutes. How do you then change the oil in the box in Kalina?

After this, tighten the plug with a wrench using hand force (do not overdo it, otherwise you won’t be able to unscrew it next time). Open the hood and find the filler hole. There is no neck as such on the Kalina - you will have to fill it through the dipstick. Therefore, the hose with which we extended the watering can must be thin. To prevent oil from leaking, you can quickly wrap the joints with electrical tape or a foam pad. Then fill in the liquid in full. Place the dipstick in place. This completes the oil change in the Kalina gearbox. Now you can begin daily use. There are no filters in the manual transmission, so its maintenance is limited only to changing the oil.

Doing a partial change of lubricant yourself consists of several stages. I will describe each one in turn. So let's get started. We need to drain the old waste first.

Draining old oil

The procedure for draining old waste is carried out as follows:

  1. Warm up the Kalina 2 automatic transmission to 60 degrees.
  2. Press the gas pedal and move the selector lever through all positions of the box. This is necessary so that the oil ceases to be viscous after a long period of inactivity.
  3. Place the machine on a pit or overpass.

Now it’s time to flush the pan of the Kalina 2 automatic transmission.

Washing the tray and removing chips

Pull the box tray out from under the Kalina 2 car and wash it with carbocleaner. Disconnect the magnets and clean them with a metal brush. Look at the threads of the plug. She may also be in shavings. Clean the plug.

Use a sharp object to remove the old gasket from the pan and degrease the edges. Install a new rubber band. Leave everything to dry and proceed to replacing the filter device.

Replacing the filter

On older cars, I recommend changing the filter. There is no point in changing it with new ones. Therefore, simply rinse the filter device with carbocleaner.

If a fine external filter is installed on Kalina 2, then such a device should be changed every lubricant change.

After the filter has been changed or washed, install the pan back, applying silicone to the edges for a better seal. Screw in all the bolts and tighten the drain plug. Now let's start pouring fresh ATF into the Kalina 2 automatic machine.

Filling with new oil

The oil in the box is changed through the filler hole. To get to it you will have to remove the battery and air filter. Then do this:

  1. Insert the funnel into the hole.
  2. Start adding grease.
  3. It should take you about one and a half liters for a partial shift.
  4. Once the appropriate amount has been poured in, remove the funnel and tighten the cap.
  5. Reinstall all removed parts and start the engine.
  6. Warm up the automatic transmission.

Take a Lada Kalina 2 for a ride and check the level. If necessary, add more.

The Kalina uses a 5-speed manual transmission. The manufacturer recommends adding 3100 grams of oil. But motorists recommend pouring 100-200 grams more. This way we will eliminate extraneous noise in the box and the hum of the shafts at speed (especially the fifth gear gears).

As we have already noted, gear oil is very viscous. Even when hot, it hardly comes out of the box. Therefore, some of the liquid remains on the walls of the pan and on the shaft gears themselves.
