5. Using a 21 mm socket wrench (or a spark plug wrench), unscrew the nuts securing the windshield wiper arm drives.

6. Remove the plastic bushings and rubber gaskets from the wiper arm drives.

7. Disconnect the windshield wiper wiring harness block.

8. Lifting the edge of the seal, remove the windshield wiper wiring harness from the slot in the engine compartment partition.

9. Using a 10 mm socket wrench, unscrew the two nuts securing the windshield wiper gear motor to the body of the VAZ 2107 car.

10. By removing the windshield wiper arm drives from the holes in the body, remove the windshield wiper from the VAZ 2107 car.

11. Using a slotted screwdriver, remove the spring retainer and washer from the wiper rod axis. Disconnect the windshield wiper rod.

Installing a windshield wiper gear motor on a VAZ 2107 car

1. Before installing the windshield wiper gear motor on a VAZ 2107 car, we wash the rods with levers from dirt. Lubricate the hinges of the windshield wiper arms with grease.

2. Connect the connector block of the new windshield wiper gear motor to the wiring harness block. We connect the wire to the negative terminal of the battery. Turning on the ignition, turn on the intermittent operation of the windshield wipers for a short time. In this case, the windshield wiper gear motor drive will be installed in a position corresponding to the extreme left position of the windshield wiper blades. Turn off the ignition and disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

3. Disconnect the wiper gear motor connector.

If the wiper does not operate intermittently:

  • disconnect the positive terminal from the battery;

This problem is associated exclusively with a malfunction of the VAZ 2107 wiper relay. The cyclic operation of the wipers is ensured by closing/opening the relay contacts and, accordingly, the power supply circuit of the wiper motor.

The test should begin by monitoring the power supply to the relay block. This is done like this:

  • remove the relay;
  • turn the wiper switch to the intermittent position;
  • Use a control indicator to check the presence of voltage at the terminal.

If there is no voltage, it is necessary to replace the switch or repair the open circuit. If voltage is supplied but the relay does not work, the latter must be replaced. The design of the relay does not provide for the possibility of repair.

Let's look at typical windshield wiper malfunctions and methods for finding them.

Wipers do not work intermittently

As mentioned above, the breaker relay is responsible for the intermittent operation of the wipers. It can be mechanical (on older cars) or electronic. Accordingly, if the wipers work in constant mode (which is created by bypassing this relay) and do not work in intermittent mode, there is a reason to check the relay.

However, before starting the test, you need to make sure that the relay is receiving voltage from the steering column switch set to the intermittent mode position. It may well be that the malfunction lies in it, and not in the relay. In the steering column switch, in particular, the corresponding contact may oxidize or the wire connecting it to the relay may break.

Based on this, you need to find a wiring diagram for the wipers on your car and check whether current flows from the switch to the relay. If not, look at the switch. If there is current, check the relay.

Wipers do not work constantly

When the windshield wipers work great in intermittent mode, but refuse to move constantly, you can immediately talk about a malfunction in the same steering column switch or problems in the area between it and the wiper motor. Simply put, the voltage from the switch is not supplied to the motor. You also need to check this electrical circuit with a multimeter or a test light to make sure that all terminals are clean and securely fastened.

The wipers don't turn on at all

If the windshield wipers do not react at all to the steering column switch, you should start with a classic check - make sure the fuse is intact. If it is intact, you need to check the steering column switch for voltage supply to it and correct closure of the contacts inside. Most likely, there will be no voltage on it.

A special case of complete failure of the wipers is when they are blocked by something. This could be a wrench left under the hood, a rag, or frozen wiper blades (read what to do if your wiper blades are frozen). For such situations, a special fuse is usually installed in windshield wiper systems. This device saves the wiper motor from overheating and failure by turning off the power. In the simplest case, such a fuse is a heat-sensitive plate that, when heated, changes shape and opens the contact. After turning off the voltage, it returns to its previous position and you can use the device (in this case, the wipers) again.

When the wipers are blocked, they usually still move at least a little from their “parking” position. Therefore, if there is still a slight reaction to switching on, check the freedom of movement of the brushes and trapezoid. Most importantly, do this with the wipers off.

The pause between strokes is not adjustable

If your car has the ability to adjust the pause between wiper sweeps and this function stops working, the adjusting resistor is most likely to blame. This part, depending on the rotation of the knob (or wheel), changes the resistance value in the wiper relay circuit, due to which it is possible to adjust the pause. This resistor should be replaced.

If the wipers do not stop at the lowest point


Sometimes when you turn off the wipers, the brushes stop not at the lowest point of the trajectory, but in another arbitrary place.
The problem lies not in the VAZ 2107 wiper relay, but in the drive gearbox. It contains a limit switch actuated by a cam. The operation of the cam controls the position of the brushes after turning off the power on the switch lever. Gearbox failure most often occurs in winter, when the driver turns on the wipers that are frozen to the windshield.

  • Using a 22mm wrench, unscrew the trapezoid fastening of the windshield wipers and remove the plastic inserts;

  • remove the rubber seal in the engine compartment;
  • disconnect the power terminals of the windshield wiper;
  • pull out the power cord from the hole in the car body;
  • unfold the plastic protective cover installed on the wiper motor;
  • Using a 10mm wrench, unscrew the nuts securing the wiper gearbox to the body;
  • remove the wiper gearbox and the bracket with rods from the installation site (first you need to press the protrusions of the levers inward so that they fall through);
  • unscrew the nuts securing the trapezoid to the gearbox and securing the gearbox to the crank;
  • disconnect the wiper motor.

After this, you can repair or replace the faulty parts and install the wiper structure in place by performing the operations in reverse order.

Modification of the windshield wiper relay for VAZ 2107

The wipers of the “Seven” do their job perfectly in heavy rain. Problems arise during drizzling rain, when selecting a suitable operating mode becomes a problem. As a result, the wipers rub against dry glass, the rubber bands wear out intensively, and the glass can be scratched. To avoid this, the driver has to constantly turn the wipers on/off manually, which distracts from driving.

You can modify the VAZ 2107 windshield wiper relay by expanding the range of adjustment of the frequency of operation of the wipers.

First you need to remove the relay, which is located in the cabin near the hood opening lever. To remove it, you need to unscrew two screws and disconnect the block.

Next, it is necessary to replace and modify the resistor responsible for the pause between switching on the wiper motor.

A 62 kOhm resistor installed on the relay board provides a 4 second turn-on interval. It should be replaced with a resistor of half the resistance, which will provide a minimum pause between switching on of 2 seconds. But it should be soldered onto the relay board with only one leg.

In the resulting circuit break, it is necessary to solder wires with a variable resistor of 100-500 kOhm (one of the wires going to the variable resistor must be soldered in place of the second leg of the “native” resistor, and the second one must be soldered to the unsoldered leg of the constant resistor.

After connecting the variable resistor, close the relay cover by gluing it in place. This will protect the contacts and printed circuit board from oxidation and damage.

The wires going to the variable resistor must be of sufficient length so that they make it possible to install the variable resistor in a place convenient for the driver, for example, on the dashboard of the “seven”.

After installing a tuned wiper relay, it becomes possible to adjust the interval between turning on the wiper motor from 2 to 8-10 seconds. Thanks to this, you can select the optimal mode corresponding to the intensity of rain.

Before repairing faulty wipers, you need to understand their design features. The main components of wipers are:

  • Electric motor.
  • Electric washer pump.
  • Circuit breakers.
  • Control relay.
  • The switch is a three-position switch that regulates the speed of the brushes.

The wipers stopped turning on

If the wipers on a VAZ-2107 do not work in two switch positions, then the reason is most likely hidden in a blown fuse. This element is located on the fuse block and serves to protect the circuit from overloads and short circuits.

Checking the fuse is the first thing you need to start repairing. To check, you should use a tester, or simply exchange it for a known good one of the same rating. In rare cases, fuse contacts may oxidize and need to be cleaned and replaced.

Windshield wipers do not operate in intermittent mode

If a situation arises in which the wipers do not function in interrupt mode, then the breakdown should be looked for in the wiper relay. The cyclic operation of the products is ensured by closing and opening the contactor of the control relay. To check, we try to supply power to the relay block. In practice it looks like this:

  1. the relay is removed;
  2. use the switch located near the steering wheel to turn on the wiper switch;
  3. Using a tester, you need to check whether there is voltage at the terminal.

If there is no power, the switch needs to be replaced. The reason may be a break in the control circuit, so it is necessary to find and eliminate this defect. If there is power, but the relay does not operate, then it needs to be replaced. The relay cannot be repaired, so it only needs to be replaced.

The electric motor of the cleaner does not function

If the electric motor does not work, but there is voltage at its contacts, then the problem is in the device itself. This could be wear on the brushes or failure of the windings. The brushes wear out over time, and the winding fails when the motor is overloaded. These products can be repaired, but for this you need to contact a workshop.

The wipers do not reach the extreme point

Often, owners of domestically produced cars are faced with a problem when, when turning off the wipers, the blades stop at the point where they were, that is, they do not return to the lowest position. The problem with such incorrect stopping of the brushes is directly in the drive gearbox. The gearbox is equipped with a limit switch, which is activated by a cam. Modification of the VAZ 2107 wipers consists of changing their operating frequency, or the possibility of its smooth adjustment.

  • Initially, you need to remove the relay, which is located in the cabin, near the hood opening lever.
  • It is necessary to remove the relay cover and replace the installed 62 kOhm resistor with another one whose resistance is 30 kOhm. This will reduce the wiper response interval from 4 seconds to 2 seconds.
  • The resistor is soldered to the board on one side only.
  • It is necessary to solder wires into the circuit break that will connect to a variable resistance from 100 to 500 kOhm.
  • Once the wires are soldered, the relay can be assembled and installed in place.
  • The device in the form of a variable resistor must be placed in a convenient place on the control panel, since it will be used to switch the operation of the brushes.
  • This connection diagram allows you to select the optimal mode of operation of the windshield wipers in the range from 2 to 10 seconds.
