Battery Features

The battery, regardless of the manufacturer, has similar outlines to all other models. However, there are differences that are often missed.

The Lada Vesta is equipped with a standard battery from . This Russian battery occupies something between European and Asian counterparts. Here are a few details that are best to understand right away:

  1. Capacity or charge is a unit of measurement. The electricity generated due to operation from battery discharge has its own value. The model keeps the figure around 62 Ah.
  2. On Vesta the polarity is reversed. The position of the terminals may therefore vary depending on the model with which the comparison is being made (analogue).
  3. “AKOM” empty current is 600 A. This indicator directly affects the ability of the engine to start in low temperatures - an important aspect for residents of Russia.
  4. The seat is individual in nature. Despite the complete coincidence in technical characteristics, the new battery may not fit in the place of its predecessor.

All these features need to be known before purchasing or repairing a battery. There is always the opportunity to seek help from specialists, but increasing financial costs is not an option for many.

Additionally, it is worth remembering about free consultations from the seller: be sure to wait for the final answer from a specialist regarding the compatibility of the new battery with your car.

Important! Regardless of the driver’s loyalty to the car, it is impossible to extend the battery life. "AKOM" was created to operate for 4 years. After this time, problems will inevitably arise that will lead to even greater wear and tear on machine parts.

Charging a serviceable battery

Attention!

The battery should be charged in a well-ventilated area. Do not use open flames while charging.

Procedure

:

  1. Clean the battery terminals with a 10% soda solution.
  2. Unscrew the battery plugs.
  3. We connect the charger to the battery terminals, observing the polarity.
  4. Turn on the charger. We set the current equal to 10% of the nominal value of the battery capacity (for example, a battery with a capacity of 62 A*h must be charged with a current of 6.2 A).
  5. A completely discharged battery will take approximately 8-9 hours to charge.
  6. During charging, periodically check the electrolyte temperature. If it is above 40°C, reduce the charging current by half, or interrupt charging until the battery cools down to 25°C.
  7. We charge the battery until heavy gas emission begins.
  8. We continue charging with intense gas evolution for another 2-3 hours.
  9. At the end of the charging process, the voltage at the terminals of the battery connected to the charger will be 15.9-16.2 V.
  10. The criterion for completing the charge is to achieve a density of 1.27 g/cm3.
  11. Check the electrolyte level and add distilled water if necessary.

Example of charging a battery with a Vympel-55 charger in the video:

Attention!

Read the instructions for charging the battery on the manufacturer's website. For example, to effectively and fully charge Akom batteries manufactured using Ca/Ca (Calcium-Calcium) technology, the charger must provide a charging voltage of 16 V, for low-antimony and hybrid batteries - 15.2 V.

A suddenly dead battery in Vesta, or how I communicated with Lada Assistance

Why does the Lada Vesta battery drain (newsletter) » Lada.Online

Even if you have a top-end configuration in “Red” color or a stock model, if the battery is dead, it becomes impossible to open the car with the remote control. The question immediately arises, how to open Vesta if the battery is dead? There is only one solution - use the key. There is a hidden keyhole in the car handle for it. After entering the cabin, all that remains is to open the hood and take out the ill-fated battery.

The main reasons for rapid discharge:

  • transport is not operated on a permanent basis;
  • the temperature in the region where you live in winter is too low;
  • the product has factory or acquired defects (defects).

22 Jul 2019

Once in St. Petersburg there was a heavy downpour with a thunderstorm.

In itself, this event is not something unique, but it was after it at five o’clock in the morning that the alarm sent me a message about the low battery charge.

Generator Startvolt

When I woke up in the morning, I ignored this message, chalking it up to random fluctuations in the sensors. However, in the evening of that day a surprise awaited me in the form of a car that refused to start.

The same night message about low battery charge

...with a capacity of 62 Ampere-hours and a starting current of 600A. Like any modern car, Vesta is equipped with a large amount of electrical equipment.

All kinds of sensors, navigator, radio, video recorder and other additional elements that drivers often install on their cars themselves are powerful consumers of energy.

Therefore, Lada car owners need to carefully monitor the battery and prevent it from being discharged.

If Vesta's battery runs out, the first problem the car owner faces is the inability to open the door using the transmitter. The manufacturer took into account the possibility of such a situation, so it provided the possibility of getting into the cabin with a low battery.

Sequence of actions if the battery on a Lada Vesta runs out

If Vesta's battery runs out, the first problem the car owner faces is the inability to open the door using the transmitter. The manufacturer took into account the possibility of such a situation, so it provided the possibility of getting into the cabin with a low battery.

First you need to remove the decorative plug. There is a groove at the bottom. By using it to pry the cover with the ignition key, it can be removed. When dismantling the plug in the cold, you should be careful, as the plastic is very fragile and breaks easily.

After removing the plug, the car owner will have access to the lock. Any dirt should be cleaned off with a rag.

The ignition key is used to open the door lock. If the machine cannot be unlocked, the cylinder should be treated with penetrating lubricant. In cold weather, you may need to warm up the lock or use special defrosting equipment.

If the battery is discharged, it will not be possible to close the doors in the normal way using the central locking system. The locks of all doors except the driver's are equipped with a special groove with a closing button.

  • Having found the groove, you need to insert the ignition key into it.

  • Press the key down. Down button. If you slam the door, it will close.

Using the above method, all three doors must be closed. The driver's door is locked with a key.

To start the power plant with a discharged battery, it is recommended to use a ROM. The starter-charger must be connected observing the polarity. The car can be turned off after 30-40 minutes. During this time, the discharged battery will have time to partially restore its charge.

If you have a charger, starting the engine is possible either with or without removing the battery. Charging with rated current is preferable, but will take much longer. Increased current will speed up the process, but will negatively affect the battery life.

Rules of service

A good battery lasts at least three years. Therefore, if the battery is discharged before this period, you should not immediately run to the store to buy it. It is recommended to check the charge level first. Batteries often lose capacity due to improper maintenance, temperature fluctuations and other factors.

Proper maintenance involves checking the catholyte level, its volume and operating temperature. This is best done using a hydrometer. If the density of the liquid is below normal - in winter 1.25 g/cm3, in summer - 1.29 g/cm3, distillate is added to the batteries being serviced.

A load fork can help. It should be connected for 5-6 seconds, and if the voltage shows more than 9 volts, then everything is fine with the battery. Such a device is either purchased ready-made or made independently from 6 lamps with a power of 55 watts.

How to charge the battery?

You can revive the battery or recharge it in several ways:

  • from another car - lighting a cigarette;
  • using a charger;
  • pusher or towing.

The most reliable and correct way is to use a memory. It is extremely important to monitor the charging process - the jars should not boil. Even on a hermetically sealed battery, this chemical process can be easily identified by hissing and gurgling. A high-quality charger automatically controls the state of the electrolyte and voltage, alternating high and low charging current. Cheap Chinese chargers do not know how to do this, so the owner must monitor the process himself in order to turn off the 220 socket in a timely manner.

Charging a maintenance free battery

A maintenance-free battery is charged with a special charger that automatically reduces the current as it charges (at a constant voltage of 14.5 V). It is allowed to charge a maintenance-free battery with a current of 5% of the nominal value of the battery capacity (for example, a battery with a capacity of 62 A*h - with a current of 3.1 A) for 30 hours. When the battery is fully charged, the device automatically turns off.

Let us remind you that if a battery installed on a car discharges quickly, a possible reason is leakage current.

Replacing the battery on Lada Vesta

In order to make a replacement, you need to know how to remove the battery correctly. The device should be removed in a certain order:

  1. Remove the negative terminal by loosening the nut of the fastening bolt;
  2. In the same way, remove the wire from the positive terminal;
  3. Loosen one of the nuts on the battery mounting stud;
  4. Remove the device mounting bracket;
  5. Remove the battery.

Install in reverse order.

Despite some shortcomings of the domestic auto company, it is gratifying that AvtoVAZ does not hide its own shortcomings and is trying to correct them. The same applies to problems with the Lada Vesta battery.

Reasons for discharge

On the 2020 Vesta, released in the Luxury trim level, there is a factory mistake - self-discharge of the battery. The manufacturer himself points out this problem and recommends taking such actions. Swap certain contacts, which will automatically update the software version and reset all electronic unit errors. But it is better to entrust this procedure to specialists, especially if the car is still under warranty.

On other vehicle configurations, battery discharge is possible due to something else. For example, many owners, contrary to the ban, install high-power halogen lamps or simultaneously turn on fog lights with optics. The battery quickly loses capacity due to unnecessary additions. Unfortunately, no matter how new a domestic car is, it is far from being a foreign car. Therefore, you should always try not to load the electrical system.

Other common causes of discharge:

  • crooked installation of electrical-related equipment;
  • regular driving at speeds 1 and 2;
  • frequent movement over short distances within 30 km - while using many electrical appliances at the same time (powerful acoustics, heated steering wheel and seats);
  • cold weather and lack of thermal insulation of the car hood.

A low battery on a Lada Vesta can cause the doors to lock. They cannot be opened using the transmitter, but the manufacturer has taken this into account. You can also get into the cabin with a discharged battery. Here's what you need to do to do this:

  • remove the decorative cap of the handle by prying it by the groove from below with some sharp object;
  • clean any small debris that gets on the lock with a rag;
  • lubricate the larva with a special penetrating compound - warm the lock in the cold or use thawing special means;
  • open the door with the ignition key.
BarabasI installed a Vesta Red battery in my car. Starts without problems, even in severe frosts. Just what we need for our winter! It has never failed me yet, it works properly and the design is unusual.
Sasha VadI have negative experience using Westa RED batteries. It stayed with me for exactly 10 months (Lada Vesta car). I left for several months, the car was in the garage, and it was completely discharged. After charging it never came to life! The guys at the service station suggested that it was a calcium battery and when fully discharged it no longer worked.
PowerThe Premium 6ST-65 battery from the Russian manufacturer Akom worked for exactly six months. It just suddenly stopped charging and barely got into the car. Most likely, there was a short circuit between the banks; on Monday I’ll go to the service center to swear. I do not advise anyone to buy this battery.
Evgeniy SerovichThe standard battery worked for me on Vesta for about 2.5 years, which is not bad in principle, since it is a budget option. Now Bosch has installed it. I took a little more power than it came from the factory, so that it would not run out longer in the winter. I am very pleased with the purchase, it starts with half a turn, even in the most severe frost.
ZhekaInstall the Mutlu battery, purchased in 2020. No complaints, turns perfectly, does not boil, does not discharge. The Turkish manufacturer is more affordable in price than the European one, and much better than the Russian one.
ShroudI purchased two Russian batteries. To be honest, I'm very disappointed in their quality. One died after a year, the second still works somehow, but you have to constantly remove and recharge. It’s better not to save money and buy a more expensive manufacturer, Volt or Bosch.
Andrey755Immediately after purchasing the car, I removed the factory battery, from a domestic manufacturer, and replaced it with a more expensive and high-quality Bosch battery. The factory one, yes, fits all the characteristics, but neither I nor my mechanic friend trust this battery. Moreover, they write about some problems with discharge.
VVAHi all! I personally took a Tyumen battery 60 for myself! Starts in any frost, no problem! I recommend to everyone!
VazgenTo start the car in cold weather, you can’t even start it with a fully charged battery if your oil is too thick. In general, I believe that with the purchase of a battery, simple luck plays a big role. You can travel longer in a domestic car than in an imported one.
Kasper2506If there is a need to replace the battery, then select a battery so that the characteristics are not lower than those specified. You should not focus only on ampere hours, since products from different manufacturers with the same capacity can differ quite significantly in other parameters. When going to the store for a new battery, the selection procedure should be something like this: the polarity and size of the new and old batteries should match; as well as a unit of measurement of charge (in the old fashioned way called “capacity”). The amount of electricity that a battery is capable of delivering during a long-term discharge mode. We choose as recommended by the manufacturer (62 Ah). The capacity may be slightly higher than the nameplate. The starting current must be at least 600 A. This parameter is an indirect indicator of the quality of the car battery: the higher it is, the lower its internal resistance! In other words, the higher this parameter, the greater the chances of starting the engine in winter.
BoryanThere are a lot of negative reviews about West batteries. One gets the impression that they are not very suitable for this car. Immediately after the purchase, after reading dozens of reviews, I bought and installed a better battery.

conclusions

The battery on a Lada Vesta car can be discharged in several cases, such as devices not being turned off or a technical breakdown. On cars in the “Lux” version produced before 2020, spontaneous battery discharge is a factory defect and needs to be improved.

If the need for charging arises, this can be done using a special charger that connects to a 220 V network. The charging process is simple, but requires compliance with safety precautions. When connecting to the device, you should supply the battery with a current that corresponds to the battery capacity.

Battery issue price

Location of the battery in the engine compartment of Vesta

You can save on battery costs by purchasing the best option for several reasons. Firstly, the price is reasonable for the Lada Vesta brand. Secondly, the driver knows exactly what awaits him throughout the entire period of battery operation.

The rest can only focus on the above countries and brands. The risks of getting spoiled are very high when purchasing through intermediaries. In this regard, the domestic manufacturer wins, because you can contact him directly. Although when purchasing European analogue batteries, the benefits obtained for the car cover all the risks associated with the purchase.

Definitely buy below 4 thousand rubles. not worth it - this is the average price of AKOM. You should always push upward. Otherwise, it all depends on your budget and needs - the difference between a car for a family and a business is noticeable. Take into account the operating features of the vehicle and consult with the battery seller.

The Lada Vesta car has a battery...

...with a capacity of 62 Ampere-hours from the Russian manufacturer Akom.
This budget battery lasts up to three years on average. During normal operation of the electrical system, the driver does not need to disconnect or remove the battery from the car, but sometimes such an operation may still be necessary. The battery on the Lada Vesta is removed in the following cases:

  • The need to replace it with a new source of electricity;
  • For battery diagnostics and maintenance;
  • To recharge a dead battery using a charger;
  • During some types of repair work in the engine compartment, to gain access to other units under the hood.

Removing the Vesta batterySONY DSC
Many drivers are interested in the question: is it possible to remove the battery on Vesta? It is necessary to remove the car battery only if absolutely necessary, since if there is a complete loss of power, the settings of additional equipment (for example, a watch or a navigator) may be disrupted and will have to be configured again.

How to service the battery on a Lada Vesta - you need to know

If the battery is discharged, then pay attention to maintenance, of course, if it is serviceable. It is necessary to regularly check the electrolyte density, its quantity, operating temperature, etc. If there is no electrician nearby, you can measure it with a device for measuring the density of the electrolyte - a hydrometer, periodically measuring the density of the electrolyte. Monitor your electrolyte levels regularly. Usually inside the screw-on or removable plugs there are plastic inserts indicating the liquid level. The electrolyte must reach them. No more and no less. If the hydrometer shows that the electrolyte density is different from normal, you need to dilute it with distilled water or add acid. We lower the hydrometer into the electrolyte and compare the data on it with the table.

The normal electrolyte density for winter is 1.25-1.27 g/cm3. Electrolyte density for summer is 1.27-1.29 g/cm3. A normal battery should produce a voltage of 12.5 to 13.0 volts. Once it reaches 12 volts there will be problems. At 11 V the battery is completely discharged.

If there is a load fork, apply the load for 5-6 seconds. If the voltage is more than 9 volts, everything is fine. If there is no load plug, then you can make a homemade one from 6 lamps with a power of 55 watts, connecting them in parallel (the plus of each lamp to the plus of the others, the minus to the minus, respectively). If the lights dim after 5 minutes, the battery is discharged.

In maintenance-free batteries, it is enough to keep an eye on the ventilation holes in the battery (small holes on the sides). They should not be covered with anything.

Sometimes it is suggested to install batteries with a capacity higher than the rated capacity, but manufacturers usually do not recommend installing batteries that differ in capacity, due to the fact that a more powerful battery will take longer to charge. And if the reason is that the battery is discharged due to short runs, then the more powerful battery will become even more discharged! However, some take the risk of installing batteries with a larger capacity, and no one has heard a single complaint from them. You need to know this is not recommended by the manufacturer.

A radical solution to the problem would be to install a second, spare battery. However, you can’t just put a second battery in parallel. Only a few manufacturers in the world provide high-quality operation of two or more batteries in systems not designed for this. These are, for example, Whisper Power, Victron Energy. You shouldn't risk all your electrical equipment for little-known manufacturers. It is important that your car model is indicated in the equipment passport as suitable. The cost of devices is usually equal to the cost of the battery. Therefore, this is not recommended under normal conditions. However, for lovers of extreme sports, mega music, driving through the taiga or tundra, it is sometimes necessary.

The process of removing the battery on Lada Vesta

Removing the battery on Vesta is a simple process. To do this, you will need a minimum set of tools, namely, keys of sizes 10 and 13 .

Before removing the Lada Vesta battery, you need to turn off the ignition and wait until the cooling fan stops spinning. At the same time, data is saved in the control unit, so you need to wait at least 1-2 minutes.

Removing the Vesta battery

Step-by-step removal:

  1. First of all, unscrew the negative terminal. To do this, you need to loosen the tightening of the nut of the coupling bolt on it.
  2. We remove the terminal.
  3. We proceed to removing the second terminal (plus). In the same way, loosen the nut with a 10mm wrench and disconnect the terminal with the wire.
  4. Next, you need to remove the mounting bar that holds the battery and prevents it from moving while driving. To do this we use a key of 13.
  5. We remove the bar.
  6. We take out the battery. They are usually equipped with special handles for this purpose.

A new battery (or an old one after servicing) is installed in exactly the same way, in reverse order. First, the positive and negative terminals are connected. Then the battery is fixed using a strap. If you are replacing an old battery, you must thoroughly clean its contacts, removing road dirt, dust and oxidation products. After this, it is better to lubricate the terminals with any anti-corrosion lubricant. After this procedure, the battery will not have additional leakage of electricity and will last longer.
