Where to put the jack on the Prior?

Life hack: which jack is better for the Priora?

Among the devices that make life easier for car owners, the Priora car jack takes pride of place.
The help of a lift is necessary when a vehicle tire breaks, it needs to be changed, this is difficult to underestimate. To decide which jack is best for a Priora car, study the main characteristics and weigh all the pros and cons.

The types of such devices for a passenger car are different, and the prices vary significantly. Sometimes a necessary tool for a vehicle gets lost, breaks, or requires replacement. Stores offer different options; our article will tell you where to go in this case and buy a good lifting mechanism.

How to use a rack jack?

Using a rack jack

The structure in the form of an oblong metal strip in its original state is installed between the support point and the surface of the lifting object. Some models have a lift mode switch - it determines the step at which the upward movement will be carried out. Next, using a special jack handle, up and down movements are made. It is very important to take the right position. Experienced motorists are advised to stand to the left of the tool and manipulate the edge of the handle with their right hand. The left hand holds the rod itself, but from the side facing the object.

A very important question is how to use the jack correctly so that during the lifting process it does not slip off the working surface. To do this, initially the upper support point of the tool must be pushed a little deeper. For example, in the case of a car, the jack must provide support slightly along the diagonal line. As you rise, this curve will level out, which will avoid a natural bevel in relation to the tilting bottom of the car.

Standard jack, is it good - article number and price

but vehicle owners are not always satisfied with its quality. VAZ cars are mainly equipped with a standard diamond-shaped device for lifting loads; such mechanisms may reveal the following disadvantages: instability, excessive mobility of the base and upper part, low strength of steel. Later, deflections of the stiffeners begin to appear, threads break, and bearings break.

The diamond jack for a Priora car (standard) has article number 2170-3913210, the estimated price is 850 rubles.

Installing a standard jack

Let's look at the diagram for installing a standard jack on a Renault Duster:

  1. We take out the jack from the luggage compartment. Before installation, you must park the car on a flat surface, asphalt or in a garage.
  2. The standard jack has a special hook that needs to be inserted into the hole under the threshold. You need to hook from the bottom.

Installing a jack is a fairly easy operation and does not require special knowledge and skills.

Hydraulic bottle jack

Some jacks do not have a hook, but simply a notch on the top platform. It needs to be placed under the ledge on the car, which is located under the threshold.

You can also use a hydraulic jack, which is also placed under this rib. All jacks are installed in the place where the threshold connects to the bottom and has a so-called rib.

What to look for when choosing a jack

To choose a car lift, evaluate its operation and determine the parameters that apply to the device:

  1. load capacity;
  2. minimum pick-up height;
  3. greatest.

Consider the purpose of use:

  • lift a car in the garage;
  • only to lift the load resting on it during road breakdowns;
  • lift loads.

When performing work related to construction, lifting and moving loads, it is important to know their weight and dimensions to determine the load capacity, level and lifting height.

Consistently consider the features of various types, their characteristics in order to buy a good load-lifting mechanism for Priora.

Lifting height

Lift height is the maximum distance that the mechanism lifts the car. The height should allow the wheel that needs to be replaced to hang freely. You need to choose a tool with indicators: 385 mm or more.

Pickup height - pay attention to the clearance of your car

The minimum distance from which lifting is possible is called the pick-up height. It is equal to the distance from the ground to the top point of the tool and should not exceed the clearance of the vehicle. It is measured by applying a ruler from the lower edge of the threshold rib to the ground (distance less than 100 mm).

Types of jacks and does it make sense to take one for Priora

The parameters of the tool, its advantages, and disadvantages depend on the type, model, and manufacturer.

Roll-up

One of the convenient ones is a rolling one. Models are produced that provide different carrying capacities of modern cars. The rolling one has a small pick-up and a large lift. Widely popular in car services and tire shops.

The wheels are convenient and quickly bring the tool under the car. The load is lifted by lever movements and requires little effort.

Sometimes, in addition to standard places, the tool needs to be placed under other parts of the body or frame. Additional rubber nozzle that protects the surface of the car.

The advantage of the rolling mechanism is that the specified position is fixed with a special pin. You can work without using an additional stand.

Choosing a rolling lift for a Priora makes sense for garage work.

Hydraulic

Compact, reliable, convenient. Hydraulics make lifting work easier.

It has two drawbacks. The first is that the pick-up is large enough, the rise is small. This feature is due to the forced limitation of the piston length at a certain initial distance.

Overcoming the disadvantage is achieved by using the telescopic principle. The presence of a second piston allows you to significantly increase the distance from the ground. Some manufacturers indicate dimensions taking into account the support that is twisted out, which is not entirely correct: the minimum assumes that the support is twisted inward.

The second disadvantage of the hydraulic one is the small size of the support platform. This imposes increased demands on the strength of the section of the machine that serves as the tool stop. It is purchased for trucks and SUVs.

The advantage of the hydraulic one is its large load capacity, speed, and minimum physical effort.

Rack and pinion

The rack and pinion type is universal. It differs from the others in two pickup zones. Works in any spatial position. Due to its unique qualities, it is used in construction.

A rack and pinion lever mechanism is a variation of this type of tool. Used for SUVs equipped with special reinforced sockets. Thanks to its low lift and high lift, it lifts the car.

This type will not suit Priora - it does not have special sockets.

Screw

The mechanism, lifting with screw adjustment, is called screw. It is characterized by its small dimensions, weight, and ease of maintenance. There are rhombic and mechanical bottle ones. The latter have good load-carrying capacity. However, the high pick-up height does not suit the Priora.

Bottle jack

There are hydraulic and mechanical bottle lifts. Hydraulic lifting capacity is 5 - 20 tons. Minimum height 150 mm – 180 mm. Maximum 280 mm – 350 mm. There are telescopic bottles with increasing distance up to 400 mm. There are two-rod and three-rod ones with an adjustable screw support. The advantage of the latter: lower pick-up –160 mm.

Operating procedure:

  1. Install under the car. 2. Tighten the valve. 3. Move the handle to raise the rod. 4. After finishing the work, open the valve, the weight of the car lowers the mechanism, press it with your hand. 5. Tighten the valve tightly.

They have the advantages of hydraulic ones.

Disadvantage: requires storage only in a vertical position. Which does not apply to mechanical bottle bottles.

Inflatable

The original type of jacks is inflatable. It is a durable cushion made of polymer material, filled with exhaust gas by a compressor. Works on any soil, no hard, flat surface required.

The second advantage is that it’s quick to lift; you don’t need to make a huge effort.

Third, installation under the middle part of the edge of the bottom allows you to hang two wheels at once.

The inflatable lift mechanism is easy to use. First, you need to position the tool evenly under the machine. Connect the hose valve, put on the exhaust pipe, and start the engine. The lifting speed is less than 1 minute. Lowering the car occurs after turning the valve a quarter turn to the left. Wait until the gas comes out completely.

The parameters of the lifting mechanisms are high. Load capacity – 1.8 – 4 tons. The lift is low, equal to the thickness of the deflated pillow, the maximum lifting distance is 1 meter.

Rhombic

Most Priora cars are equipped with a mechanical diamond jack. The design is simple, reliable, and represents a movable rhombus. Consists of U-shaped steel profiles. The height is adjusted by rotating the threaded rod. The axes of the hinge joints are fastened with pins and bushings. The tip of the pin has a hole for inserting a folding rotation handle.

Loading capacity of screw tools: 1 – 2 tons. Pick-up height: 100 – 110 mm, lifting height: 350 – 395 mm. Advantages: compactness, light weight, low price.

Lada Priora Sedan First car › Logbook › Hydraulic jack

I recently broke a tire... During a change, the standard jack broke. For two months I thought about which one to buy... some are suitable, some are not, others are of poor quality, etc. In general, I chose and bought a car faster than a jack. The choice was between the three that are generally sold - diamond or hydraulic (rollable and column). The reviews for the diamonds that were sold in the store were simply very bad, to put it mildly. They cost 400-550 rubles and after a couple of uses they were simply thrown away, because... the carving came off. The post and rolling jacks are easier to use, it would seem, if not for one BUT: the height of pick-up and lifting.

I measured the lifting height with a ruler, a little more than 20 cm, approximately, so I decided that the minimum needed was 20. There are jacks with a 13-16 cm lifting height, which seems excellent, but here again there is a problem - the lifting height is 30-33 cm, about 35. I heard , that the Priora has about 38. There are 21 and up to 40, this seems not bad, but I was afraid that if the tire goes flat, then I won’t put these 21 under the car. Roll-up or in a column - it’s up to your discretion. The rolling ones are simpler, I change tires in my uncle’s garage, he has a good rolling one, so there are no problems there, but they are more expensive, because... for 800-1200 and the lift height is low and the reviews are bad, but paying 3000 in case I break a tire is expensive.

I bought a jack with a post with a lift of 35 and decided to put a board under it, because... It seems like you need 38. Jack model Skif 4T 180-350 mm. First, you unscrew the screw by hand, you can adjust it directly to the lifting height of the car, then lift it with a lever (no effort is felt at all, it lifts perfectly). I decided to check - the pick-up height under the front wheel is lower than at the rear, because I didn’t even unscrew the screw completely, and then lifted it with a lever, the front wheel lifted off the ground a couple of centimeters at the maximum, i.e. This lift is enough to change (as the book says 35 cm). At the rear, I unscrewed the screw by hand to the maximum and there was still about 1 cm of clearance left, I started jacking it up, raised it to the top, but the wheel never rose from the ground, but I think that those same couple of cm are missing.

In this case, you need to put a board under it, but it doesn’t make sense to put it up when my screw won’t be unscrewed to the maximum by hand (I’ll put 4 cm, unscrew the screw 3 cm lower, because there was 1 cm of clearance, but in the end I'll lift the car about the same way). Then I see the easiest way - I raised the car, placed a brick or something under it to lower it, then lower the jack (the car will stand on supports), then put a couple of boards under the jack and raise it even higher. For me, this is the easiest way, but you always need to have something to put in the trunk. I always have it empty, I threw a few boards under the jack and a couple of good bars on which to put the car.

I also noticed that after purchasing the jack I checked it on smooth asphalt, the screw was turned out to the maximum under the rear wheel, but today near work on a curved road the screw was not completely unscrewed. Well, in general, for those who will take the jack lower than necessary, the easiest thing is to carry what you need in the trunk and lift the car in two lifts in case of a puncture. Because if you take a jack with a pick-up height of 21, then it is possible that it will not fit under the front wheel, taking into account the fact that on mine I only unscrewed the screw halfway by hand. It is always easier to prop it up than to then lift the car and put a jack under it. Although, in such a case, you can simply run over something with a wheel and substitute a jack, which will not fit.

If you change tires with your jack every season, then it’s better not to waste money, pay three thousand rubles and buy a good rolling jack, because constantly changing wheels like I described is a mockery.

Where to put the jack VAZ 2107

Published August 30, 2016

Thank you, Roman, for the educational video.
And here in Siberia, winter is already in full swing, frost and snow. Will there be a video on how to lift it on the road to put the spare tire on?

I bought myself a rolling jack. It’s a pleasure if I change wheels, also - in front for the beam in the center, in the back for the axle hub.

Is there a crack on the rear axle? where is the gearbox

At the tire shop I saw how my seven was jacked up under the ear of the rear shock absorber, I was already surprised. It turns out there was a load on the stud.

Roman, thank you for the video answer to my question!

Some on YouTube advise putting a jack under the lower ball joint, what do you say to that?

But at 13:07, behind the rod, to the left of the standard place for the jack, there is a “cube” with a hole. I'm wondering what kind of crap this is and is it possible to jack it up?

Do you know how a venerable foreign car differs from a Lada of the same age? First of all, it has a perfectly preserved body. It seems that it was this vitality, unprecedented in our country before the advent of “second-hand”, that pushed many to buy used cars. Not so with domestic ones. There are still plenty of units, but the body can only be jacked up in parts. He doesn't live in our climate. In winter, salt wears away metal; in summer, potholes break it.

practical guide

To complete the work you will need:

— “balloon” or socket wrench 17 mm;

— support for the jack (if the car is standing on loose soil).

1. We install the car, if possible, on a flat horizontal platform. If there are passengers in the car, they should be disembarked.

2. Remove the spare wheel and the necessary tools from the luggage compartment.

3. We fix the car with the parking brake and install wheel chocks on both sides under the wheel located diagonally from the one being replaced.

4. Use a screwdriver to pry it off and remove the decorative wheel cap.

Depending on the design of the discs, the decorative cap can be secured with a screw. In this case, to remove the cap, unscrew the screw securing it with a Phillips screwdriver.

5. Using a 17 mm wheel wrench or socket wrench, loosen all wheel bolts by approximately half a turn.

If the car is parked on loose ground, place a support under the jack to increase the stability of the jack (for example, a board of a suitable size).

6. Install a jack under the threshold of the car. The installation locations are marked with a triangle on the plastic sill trim.

The upper platform of the jack must be installed under a special bracket welded to the body sill. In this case, the lower support platform of the jack must be strictly under the upper stop.

7. Smoothly lift the car, while simultaneously checking that it does not move forward or backward. We lift until the car wheel to be replaced is at a distance of 2-3 cm from the supporting surface.

8. Finally unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the wheel.

9. Install the spare wheel on the hub. Holding the wheel, we first tighten its mounting bolts.

10. While holding the wheel from rotating, tighten the bolts of its fastening crosswise.

11. Smoothly lower the car until the wheel firmly touches the supporting surface. Next, lower the car completely onto the wheels and fold down the jack.

12. Finally tighten the wheel bolts according to the same pattern to a torque of 65.2–92.6 Nm.

13. Place the removed wheel in the luggage compartment and securely fasten it.

14. Remove the wheel chocks.

15. Check the tire pressure and, if necessary, adjust it to normal.

Correct installation of the jack

The most important thing is to place the jack on a hard and level surface. This should only be done on an ideal surface; you cannot do this on crushed stone or sand, as the jack will go down several centimeters. You will need to go down to a solid surface with a flat tire, the distance should be about 150 meters. When driving calmly, your tires and wheel will not be damaged. If you cannot find a flat and hard surface, then you need to put a board under the jack. If all the options do not suit you, then contact specialists who provide on-site tire fitting.
