Lada-Largus-Cross review, technical specifications, description

Appearance of Largus Cross on the Russian market

The crossover version was developed as a result of AvtoVAZ’s policy: improving cars and striving to meet the needs of all categories of drivers. Over the years, the standard Largus has established itself as a market leader among fans of quiet family driving.

In addition, Largus is available in the form of a van. This fact adds to the number of consumers of this model entrepreneurs, rural residents and everyone interested in transporting cargo. For this segment of buyers, a standard station wagon is suitable in almost all respects: a comfortable, roomy interior, the ability to accommodate from 5 to 7 passengers inside (depending on the purchased modification), low fuel consumption and discreet classic style.

But since, as mentioned above, among Lada consumers there are drivers who often drive outside the city on rough terrain, the question of creating an off-road version of Largus has become urgent. AvtoVAZ specialists revealed that the demand for the production of such a car is high, and it was decided to design a modified version of the station wagon, which is better adapted for off-road use. And, starting in 2020, a modified version of the station wagon is being produced with the cross prefix.

Improved adaptation to poor road conditions was achieved by changing some technical parameters. There was also a slight modification to the external and internal appearance of the car.

How to reduce fuel consumption

Fuel consumption in any car depends on a number of subjective and objective factors, ranging from traffic congestion, the number of traffic lights along the way and the time of year, to driving style. Driving in an aggressive style will lead to an increase in gasoline consumption standards, and even on a new car, distortions may occur in relation to the data on the Lada Largus passport.

Important! Any unreasonable increase in speed is a sure path to increased gas mileage.

The main factors of increased consumption can be considered:

  1. The quality of the gasoline being poured is poor; at many gas stations, the octane number is increased using additives, but this does not make the car drive much better, but the gas emissions increase, which leads to high costs.
  2. All electrical equipment that is turned on while driving takes on part of the generated energy, which can also become a factor in increasing gasoline consumption in a car of any brand.
  3. In the winter season, a lot of fuel is spent on warming up a cold engine, which naturally increases the consumption of gasoline.
  4. Worn-out engine parts are one of the main factors in increased fuel consumption. To avoid this situation, you need to monitor the condition of the car and pay attention to the color of the exhaust gases (if the valves are worn out, oil gets into the fuel and the exhaust gases become black and acquire a characteristic odor).

The main advice can be considered the timely identification of problems, and for this you should carefully monitor changes in the performance characteristics of the car. To eliminate one of the common causes of increased gasoline consumption in Lada Largus, you can simply replace or clean the fuel filter.

Differences in technical characteristics

When it comes to a car related to the crossover segment, in most cases such a body is supported by all-wheel drive (when the structure of the transmission allows torque to be transmitted to all 4 wheels). Such modifications in the case of passenger cars are often called 4x4. As a result of the modification of the Lada, the 4x4 option was not added, since in this case the updated car would have cost much more. The car retained front-wheel drive also because to optimize the design, the B0 platform on which the car was created would have to be slightly changed.

The most significant changes to which the “off-road” version of the Lada was subjected are as follows.

AspectsIndicators
The difference between the ground clearances of the two models is noticeable in favor of the cross version.The modernized model has ground clearance of 2.5 cm (when loaded - 1.75 cm).
Wheel rims have become 1 inch larger in diameter16 versus the previous 15.
The tire profile and brand have been changed.The Cross version is equipped with 205 mm wide Continental tires with a 55% profile.
Of the two engines offered by the standard Largus, only one is available in the updated version105 hp.

Ground clearance has been increased through two changes.

  1. First of all, the suspension was retuned. In the front part, struts of a different type are used, as well as modified shock absorbers. Plus, the rear suspension uses higher springs.
  2. An increase in ground clearance by half a centimeter was also achieved due to modifications to the wheels, but for the most part it was possible to raise the body due to modifications to the suspension.

The changed ground clearance does not give the new Largus the right to be called a crossover, but still makes driving on Russian off-road roads more comfortable.

If you compare the tires and wheels of two cars, you will notice not only an increase in the rim diameter and linear dimensions of the rubber, but also the use of exclusively Continental wheels. The modification also involves the use of slightly different strut supports and silent blocks (rubber connecting elements of the suspension). The crossover station wagon was presented to customers with modified steering and braking systems.

Today, VAZ produces Largus Cross with one engine option. This is a 1.6-liter gasoline power unit from Renault with 16 valves with a capacity of 102 horsepower (by the way, the passport of a regular Largus with a similar engine indicates the power limit indicated by 3 hp more).

The modified version differs from the standard station wagon only in one proposed engine. Let us remind you that the previous version of Largus has two engines in its arsenal: the aforementioned 105-horsepower unit and a domestic engine with 8 valves with a capacity of 87 horsepower. The second one was recently introduced by AvtoVAZ. Its predecessor is a French 84-horsepower eight-valve engine. In terms of the number of engines, the regular Largus is better.

The five-speed manual transmission installed in the standard Largus has not been changed.

dimensions of the cargo compartment, trunk volume

Lada Largus Cross

On a regular Lada Largus van, the body dimensions are selected so that Euro pallets can be transported. We are talking not only about the space between the pillars, which are spaced 108 cm apart, but also about the distance between the wheel arches. It is 96 cm, and one pallet takes 80. The distance from the rear doors to the partition generally approaches two meters! A little more and it would have been possible to fit a couple of Euro pallets. Here we will look at how to remove the partition between the body and the cabin, and at the same time remove the inner bottom of the body. The first is needed for transporting long cargo, the second is also used for some reason.

We study the fastening of partitions and floors. Everything is shown in one video.

Linear dimensions of the cargo compartment of the Lada Largus van

All the sizes you need to know are shown in the photo. The van doors here are fixed at an angle of 90 degrees, but they can be opened all the way to 180. They are fixed in either of the two positions.

Luggage compartment of a Largus van

Let's list everything that is marked in the figure:

  • The greatest height of the opening is 92 cm;
  • Opening width – 108 cm;
  • The distance “from arch to arch” is 96 cm;
  • The distance from the edge of the threshold to the partition is 194 cm.

If you lay sheets diagonally, the width of the sheet should be less than 130 cm.

When the partition remains in place, the internal volume of the Lada Largus van is 2540 liters. Load capacity is 725 kg. These figures are indicated by AvtoVAZ.

In fact, the maximum lifting capacity exceeds a ton. It all depends on the road conditions and driving style.

Unfasten the partition or part of it

The partition separating the body and the cabin consists of two halves. They can be removed separately. Both parts are screwed to the body with screws designed for a 13mm key size. Of course, you need a socket wrench.

Screws 1 were hidden under the casing

The four screws on the left and right are located on the cab side. And to unscrew them, remove the casing.

All actions with cladding

The left part of the septum is removed after the right. To remove only the left half, first remove both, and then mount the right sash back. Based on this, immediately decide where you will remove the trim - only on the right or on both sides.

The volume of the body on the Lada Largus van cannot be greatly increased, even if the partition is completely removed. But without the partition, by removing the seat, it will be possible to transport loads 3 meters long.

So, let's start dismantling the trim: you need to remove the seat belt (key “17”), and then unscrew one self-tapping screw. A Torx T20 wrench is suitable for the self-tapping screw.

Two parts “1” prevent the removal of casing “2”

It is necessary to unscrew all the parts numbered 1. And the casing will have to be removed, overcoming the resistance of the clamps.

Removing the partition

First, unscrew the four screws shown at the beginning of the chapter (key “13”). Then with the same key they go into the body.

All fasteners are the same

As you can see, both halves are held on three sides: top, bottom, middle. The number of screws will be as follows: four at the top and bottom, five at the seam between the sashes. Work order:

  1. Completely unscrew the four screws on top;
  2. While holding the nuts on the seam, unscrew the screws from the cabin side;
  3. The lower screws are unscrewed 2-3 turns. Then all parts are disengaged.

Let us remind you that the right wing can be removed separately. We wish you success.

Increasing the volume of the cargo compartment (removing the excess part on the floor)

The cargo compartment volume of the Lada Largus van can be increased. To do this, remove the floor covering.

There are two types of fasteners here

We will need special Torx keys, without which the screws cannot be unscrewed: Torx T30 and T40.

Study the picture carefully:

  • T40 caps (2) are located at the corners, as well as on the line between the arches;
  • The remaining screws (1) are designed for Torx T30 keys.

Removing the trim will be easy. And when you install it, make rubber gaskets. They are fixed to the ends of the frame so that the casing does not rust.

The removable floor (cladding) consists of two halves - left and right. First, according to tradition, the right one is removed.

Changes to the interior and exterior

Throughout production, production Lada Largus Cross cars are available in a single configuration, which includes all the options that make up the “luxury” kit of a regular station wagon, namely:

  • availability of air conditioning;
  • two pillows;
  • ABS systems;
  • leather steering wheel;
  • heated front seats;
  • electric mirror adjustment;
  • window lifters.

The crossover also comes with a stereo system consisting of 4 speakers. There is a luggage rack on the interior headliner. The driver's seat is height adjustable, and a parking radar will help you park safely.

The Largus Cross salon is distinguished by stitching of the seat upholstery in the original orange color. Inserts on the instrument panel and doors are made in the same shade. Since 2020, a similar interior trim has been added with gray inserts instead of orange. This modification has been introduced for an older audience.

The comparison of the exterior should start with the bumper. The main distinguishing feature of the exterior is the enlarged front and rear bumpers painted black. In addition to fog lights, which are included in both the standard and Cross station wagons, the only Cross trim level is immediately equipped with roof rails. The rims on the wheels are not only larger in diameter, but they also have a stylish design.

Pronounced changes are also visible in profile. Due to the increased ground clearance and wheels, the body looks raised. The side arches and sills are made similarly in black.

If the image doesn’t bother you, you like the ground clearance, like a jeep, and in addition, you’ll admire the large capacity in the form of a 5/7-seater interior and a huge trunk, and “not expensive” - that’s all, we’ve arrived. Yes, not on anything, but on a raised Lada Largus with a talking Cross prefix and, of course, DNA from Renault Logan. This model, first presented to Russians in 2015, does not have many competitors. Of the serious ones, we can only remember the Lada Kalina Cross (in-brand cannibalism, as they say), and of the not very serious ones - the Renault Sandero Stepway, which seems small compared to the Lada station wagons, and the “Chinese” like the Lifan X50/X60 or the Geely MK Cross, whose reputation , alas, cannot boast of impeccability. Read all the details about the cross-version, which was begging to be released after the standard Largus with its modest ground clearance, in our review!

Lada Largus 1.6 and 105 hp.

Cars with more powerful engines have 105 hp under the hood. with 16 valves, this provides a more confident acceleration and a small reserve of power that can help out in critical situations. The K4M engine was produced at the Renault Espana plant, now its production has been established at the AvtoVAZ concern. Recent upgrades to EURO-5 standards have led to a reduction in power to 102 hp, and torque has also decreased to 145 Nm. Fuel consumption on a Lada Largus with a K4M engine can be compared, according to the manufacturer’s data, with other power units:

  • City limits - 11.8.
  • Mixed cycle – 8.4.
  • Route – 6.7.

Based on these data, we can judge that the K4M engine turned out to be more modern and its efficiency is higher than that of the other two engines that are equipped with the Lada Largus, but we can judge the real numbers based on reviews from the owners of this car.

Reviews about the consumption of Lada Largus 16. 105 hp.

  • Vladimir, Kaliningrad. When purchasing, I had a choice between an inexpensive domestic, but new car or a German analogue with mileage in Europe, but at the last moment I settled on the Lada Largus and although the fuel consumption rate is higher than that of the European analogue, it is much cheaper to maintain. Another advantage is a high-quality suspension, because the latest models, even from popular brands, cannot always boast of the reliability of this important unit. If we evaluate real fuel costs, the data is approximately as follows: city 12-13 liters, highway up to 8 liters, on a good road.
  • Roman, Ekaterinburg. I bought a completely new car, a 2020 Lada Largus Cross, with a new K4M engine. I am very pleased with the purchase, even when picking up speed, this mule is not inferior to many sedans, not to mention the reduction in fuel costs, which was achieved by adopting European experience in the manufacture of power units. I drive mostly around the city and my pocket doesn't empty out as quickly as I expected; for driving in heavy traffic I fill up at 12 liters. per 100 km of road.
  • Victor, Novoshakhtinsk. An excellent machine, if you have an idea how to use all its advantages. Thanks to the spacious luggage compartment, I can place all my fishing gear, and my well-fed friends can sit comfortably in the spacious interior. I would also like to say something about the suspension, it is very reliable, I have never heard of it letting me down before. This difference is especially visible in comparison with Granta and Kalina 2. As for fuel consumption, I can say that gasoline consumption is acceptable, of course the car consumes a lot at high speeds, but on the highway everything changes for the better. Out of habit, I pour gasoline into the tank at the rate of 10-11 liters per hundred kilometers.
  • Vitaly, Yeisk. I managed to buy a used Lada Largus, to say that I suffered a lot is to say nothing. The previous owner beat it up pretty badly, the engine was completely destroyed, the fuel consumption rate did not fit within any limits, besides, the engine ate oil, the exhaust gases had a pronounced black color. When converting the amount of gasoline poured into rubles, the amount came out to be frightening. Over a hundred kilometers around the city, more than 15 liters were fired, this is like the old engine of the 24th Volga. Although I should have looked more carefully when buying, it’s my own fault.

Getting to know the car

The Lada Largus station wagon was presented to the public in 2014 as a worthy analogue to imported offerings. Thanks to its increased capacity and acceptable cross-country ability, the car has become widespread in the CIS countries. The advantage of the model is the availability of up to 7 seats and a spacious cargo compartment. Also of interest is the fact that the transport is a joint development of AvtoVAZ and the Renault-Nissan concern. The first collaboration yielded decent results - some of the car's components were developed by Renault.

Thanks to the desire to comply with modern trends, Lada is offered in several trim levels. Each one stands out with its own characteristics and unique equipment.

Other reviews

Against the background of the constant appearance of new cars on the world market, the Lada Vesta of the 2015 model year is not such a new product. However, it can still be considered the discovery of the Russian car market thanks to its very modern appearance and well-thought-out technical “stuffing”. The sedan's exterior was designed by ex-Mercedes-Benz and Volvo designer Steve Mattin, and was among the first people lucky enough to sit in it.

The raised cross-country hatchback Lada Xray, which AvtoVAZ dubbed a crossover for advertising purposes, is called by many the highest quality model of the domestic manufacturer, and there is indeed reason for this. Firstly, there is an abundance of high quality imported parts, and secondly, this car has decent ground clearance and a proprietary 1.8-liter engine.

Cars nowadays don't work on anything. There are even hydrogen ones that literally “live” on fuel cells. Water is, of course, good and incredibly environmentally friendly, but it is still painfully unpopular and expensive to implement. Is it compressed natural gas or, as it is also called, methane in a cylinder, like the new version of Lada Vesta CNG (Compressed Natural Gas)! A gas sedan is cheaper.

5- and 7-seater Lada Largus station wagons appeared on the Russian market in 2012, becoming a kind of continuation of the cheapest Renault Logan model, only under the auspices of a domestic manufacturer. As you might guess, the Logan-like Largus turned out to be the first Lada car built on the basis of the budget B0 platform, on the basis of which a number of Lada, Renault and Nissan models were designed.
