The main function of the car's sound signal is to provide additional notification/warning to other road users about the possible creation of a potentially dangerous situation.
In time, this sound signal can warn a pedestrian, cyclist, or other car owner that there is a high probability of an accident.
For this reason, the functionality of the car horn button is very important, and on the territory of the Russian Federation, the operation of vehicles with such a malfunction is generally prohibited.
What can cause the horn button on the steering wheel of a VAZ car ?
Some of the possible causes of the malfunction can be found in the engine compartment:
- Poor contact or loose terminals leading to vehicle alarm systems. It is necessary to perform a visual check of their condition.
- The fuse or jumper located in a special block under the hood of the car has failed. You can find out the element responsible for the signal using the diagram shown, located in the same compartment.
- The alarms themselves stopped working. To check them, you need to connect the wires directly to the car’s battery.
- Another reason for the lack of a signal may lie directly in the steering wheel button itself. This is almost always the result of a faulty signal contact located under the steering wheel.

The time has come to connect the steering column switches, which is actually why the new steering wheel was installed.
I couldn’t find a clear pinout diagram for switch chips from the VAZ-2107, so all the wires had to be wired and connected little by little.
I bought the necessary relays and button
As a result, we got this diagram:
With the rest of the chips everything is simple, turn signals to turn signals, with wipers it’s generally simple (the chips are identical, you don’t even need to call).
All relays are hidden behind the new fuse block, where the original UAZ was located.
On VAZ 2105, 2107 cars there are three steering column switches.

As you know, the VAZ 2101 was equipped from the factory with a pre-revolutionary manual windshield washer system in the form of a pump and a heating pad, but on my penny this system was completely absent. How to remove and repair the signal button on the steering wheel using the example of a VAZ 2107
Carrying out independent repair of the signal button on the steering wheel of a VAZ 2107 will not be difficult.
To do this, just read the following instructions:
- Initially, it is recommended to disconnect the ground from the battery, since the upcoming work is electrical. This will eliminate the possibility of a short circuit.
- To remove the steering wheel top cover, you will need to unscrew two bolts from the inside using a Phillips screwdriver.
- The steering wheel itself is dismantled using an open-end or regular 24mm wrench, which is used to unscrew the fixing nut. To completely remove this part, you will need to perform rocking movements in different directions while simultaneously applying pressure in your direction.
- After removing the steering wheel, you can find a special contact that should be cleaned of oxidation/contamination and bent if it is positioned incorrectly.
- The entire structure is assembled to its original state in reverse order.
- Performs a system health check.

Sometimes, with constant/frequent pressure on the signal contact, the tongue of this element may break.
Some car owners prefer to restore its integrity by soldering. But this gives only short-term results.
The most effective solution is to replace the steering column switch:
- The first stage is completely identical to that described above. You need to remove the cover and the steering wheel of the car using a screwdriver and a wrench, not forgetting to first disconnect the battery mass.
- The next step is to remove the casing by removing the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
- The wires are removed from the connectors. It is important to remember their location in order to make the correct connection in the future.
- The steering column switch itself is fixed with a clamp, which is loosened by using the 8 key.
- This system is finally being removed.
- All that remains is to secure the new part, connect three pairs of wires to the corresponding connectors (they are all different, so it will be impossible to make a mistake), install the steering wheel and the top cover in order to finally complete the repair of the signal button on the VAZ 2107 car .

If after repair the steering column switch refuses to work, then there is nowhere to go, you will have to purchase a new one. The cost of such a switch on a VAZ-2107 is around 300-500 rubles. Not that much of a cost for such an important control. Now a replacement is being carried out, which involves removing the old one and installing a new element in its place. How to remove a non-working device is already known, so let’s get down to business. To do this, you need to install the device in place, secure it and connect the power wires. Replacement does not involve any difficulties, after which the functionality of the device is checked and the casing and steering wheel are installed.
The process of repairing and replacing switches under the steering wheel takes no more than an hour, after which this device will work as if the car came straight from the showroom.
