The main function of the car's sound signal is to provide additional notification/warning to other road users about the possible creation of a potentially dangerous situation.
In time, this sound signal can warn a pedestrian, cyclist, or other car owner that there is a high probability of an accident.

For this reason, the functionality of the car horn button is very important, and on the territory of the Russian Federation, the operation of vehicles with such a malfunction is generally prohibited.

What can cause the horn button on the steering wheel of a VAZ car ?

Some of the possible causes of the malfunction can be found in the engine compartment:

• Poor contact or loose terminals leading to vehicle alarm systems. It is necessary to perform a visual check of their condition.
• The fuse or jumper located in a special block under the hood of the car has failed. You can find out the element responsible for the signal using the diagram shown, located in the same compartment.
• The alarms themselves stopped working. To check them, you need to connect the wires directly to the car’s battery.
• Another reason for the lack of a signal may lie directly in the steering wheel button itself. This is almost always the result of a faulty signal contact located under the steering wheel.

The time has come to connect the steering column switches, which is actually why the new steering wheel was installed.

I couldn’t find a clear pinout diagram for switch chips from the VAZ-2107, so all the wires had to be wired and connected little by little.

I bought the necessary relays and button

As a result, we got this diagram:

With the rest of the chips everything is simple, turn signals to turn signals, with wipers it’s generally simple (the chips are identical, you don’t even need to call).

All relays are hidden behind the new fuse block, where the original UAZ was located.

On VAZ 2105, 2107 cars there are three steering column switches.

As you know, the VAZ 2101 was equipped from the factory with a pre-revolutionary manual windshield washer system in the form of a pump and a heating pad, but on my penny this system was completely absent. In the summer I somehow managed without it, but in the fall it became simply impossible to drive... Therefore, it was decided to install an electric washer, especially since I got a 3-lever guitar from a 7 from friends (though with a broken signal tongue). Having soldered the tongue, I began installation; it took me all day to redo it, and now I want to share my experience.

How to remove and repair the signal button on the steering wheel using the example of a VAZ 2107

Carrying out independent repair of the signal button on the steering wheel of a VAZ 2107 will not be difficult.

To do this, just read the following instructions:

1. Initially, it is recommended to disconnect the ground from the battery, since the upcoming work is electrical. This will eliminate the possibility of a short circuit.
2. To remove the steering wheel top cover, you will need to unscrew two bolts from the inside using a Phillips screwdriver.
3. The steering wheel itself is dismantled using an open-end or regular 24mm wrench, which is used to unscrew the fixing nut. To completely remove this part, you will need to perform rocking movements in different directions while simultaneously applying pressure in your direction.
4. After removing the steering wheel, you can find a special contact that should be cleaned of oxidation/contamination and bent if it is positioned incorrectly.
5. The entire structure is assembled to its original state in reverse order.
6. Performs a system health check.

Sometimes, with constant/frequent pressure on the signal contact, the tongue of this element may break.

Some car owners prefer to restore its integrity by soldering. But this gives only short-term results.

The most effective solution is to replace the steering column switch:

1. The first stage is completely identical to that described above. You need to remove the cover and the steering wheel of the car using a screwdriver and a wrench, not forgetting to first disconnect the battery mass.
2. The next step is to remove the casing by removing the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
3. The wires are removed from the connectors. It is important to remember their location in order to make the correct connection in the future.
4. The steering column switch itself is fixed with a clamp, which is loosened by using the 8 key.
5. This system is finally being removed.
6. All that remains is to secure the new part, connect three pairs of wires to the corresponding connectors (they are all different, so it will be impossible to make a mistake), install the steering wheel and the top cover in order to finally complete the repair of the signal button on the VAZ 2107 car .

Replacing steering column switches and hazard warning switch

Finally unscrew the nut and remove the steering wheel.

Remove the instrument panel (see Removing the instrument panel).

Inside the dashboard, we disconnect the connecting blocks of the voltage supply harness to the steering column switches:

We install new steering column switches in the reverse order of removal.

When placing the wiring harnesses in the lower casing, be sure to secure them with a plastic clamp and make sure that they do not touch the steering shaft universal joint.

For the convenience of enabling some control functions, the VAZ-2107 car has a steering column switch, which consists of three levers. The functions of these levers include the following:

• switching between low and high beam headlights;
• turning turns on and off;
• turning on the windshield wiper in two modes and the windshield washer.

Thanks to the switch, the driver's functions are greatly simplified. There is no need to be distracted from the controls in search of one or another button to turn on the required function. To find out the reason, you must first remove the device and try to determine the problem yourself. There are not so many reasons for breakdowns, but often you have to replace the device with a new one. So, in order to determine the reasons for the failure of the steering column switches, let’s look at what parts they consist of, and for this a photo will help us.

The design of the switches is non-separable. In any case, when a problem arises with the operation of the control levers, it is necessary to remove it and try to carry out repairs. Even if it doesn’t work out, you can always buy a new element.

The steering column switch on a VAZ-2107 car is removed in the following sequence:

1. Disconnect the car from the power source and remove the steering wheel.
2. We proceed to removing the protective casing of the steering column shaft, where the control levers are installed. To do this, use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew 4 bolts and a self-tapping screw.
3. After removing the casing, we move on to the levers of important functions themselves. The block with the power wires is disconnected.
4. Unscrew the bolt securing the switches located at the bottom.
5. Once the fastening is loosened, the switch can be removed without much effort.

Replacing steering column switches and hazard warning switch

Using a screwdriver, remove the decorative trim.

Using a 24mm socket, unscrew the steering wheel mounting nut, leaving it flush on the shaft.

. by hitting the rim with your palms, we knock the steering wheel off the shaft splines

If it is not possible to remove it in this way, press the rim with your knees and knock it down, striking the shaft through a soft metal mandrel

Finally unscrew the nut and remove the steering wheel.

Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the four screws holding the halves of the steering column casing together on both sides.

...and one self-tapping screw securing the lower half to the column.

Remove the bottom trim by cutting the plastic clamp securing the wiring harness to it.

When removing the top half of the housing, be careful not to lose the rubber ring from the ignition switch.

To replace the hazard warning switch, remove it from the connecting block and install a new one.

Inside the dashboard, we disconnect the connecting blocks of the voltage supply harness to the steering column switches: eight-connector.

...six - and two-socket.

We take them out from the bottom of the dashboard.

Using the “8” socket, loosen the bolt of the clamp securing the steering column switches.

...and remove them together with the wiring harnesses from the steering column, moving them upward along the axis

We install new steering column switches in the reverse order of removal.

When placing the wiring harnesses in the lower casing, be sure to secure them with a plastic clamp and make sure that they do not touch the steering shaft universal joint.

If after repair the steering column switch refuses to work, then there is nowhere to go, you will have to purchase a new one. The cost of such a switch on a VAZ-2107 is around 300-500 rubles. Not that much of a cost for such an important control. Now a replacement is being carried out, which involves removing the old one and installing a new element in its place. How to remove a non-working device is already known, so let’s get down to business. To do this, you need to install the device in place, secure it and connect the power wires. Replacement does not involve any difficulties, after which the functionality of the device is checked and the casing and steering wheel are installed.

The process of repairing and replacing switches under the steering wheel takes no more than an hour, after which this device will work as if the car came straight from the showroom.
